000000000000000-SpikeLeeNotebook

Press Release:

When Spike Lee’s first feature film, “She’s Gotta Have It”, was released in 1986 he was acclaimed as one of the most daring and creative independent filmmakers of his generation. Starring Tracy Camila Jones as Nola Darling, a young, independent woman in Brooklyn, and Lee as one of her three suitors, the movie broke new ground by telling the story of an upscale, cosmopolitan black woman.

Today, Moleskine and Spike Lee team up to create a Special Limited Edition Notebook celebrating the 30th anniversary and re-release of the movie.

The Limited Edition Notebook’s electric pink cover is a tribute to Lee’s mother, Jacquelyn, on the 40th anniversary of her death. It was she who gave Lee his nickname “Spike.” The silkscreen print on the cover is customized with an image of Nola Darling, the inside cover features full-color collage of scenes from the film, a Spike Lee filmography and the film’s cast and crew credits.

“A Moleskine notebook is as essential to my filmmaking as a camera and lens,” states Lee. “It is my hope that a new generation of storytellers and filmmakers are inspired by ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ and are able to use one of these notebooks to bring their vision to life”, said the American film director, producer, writer and actor.
In celebration of the Moleskine collaboration, Spike Lee will be hosting two in-store signings in New York City on: Saturday, July 30th at the Moleskine Store from 3-5pm on W. Broadway and on Thursday, August 4th at Barnes and Noble from 7-9pm in Union Square. The notebooks, released in limited run of 3,000 copies, are each hand-stamped with its own number and will be exclusively available at Moleskine stores and online in the U.S. only.

The Spike Lee special limited edition notebook is the latest in a series of special editions from Moleskine that celebrate storytelling, design and pop cultural icons.
