SF – An Evening with Ed Asner & Ed Weinberger

Ed Asner and Ed Weinberger appear on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM to discuss their new book, The Grouchy Historian: An Old-Time Lefty Defends Our Constitution Against Right-Wing Hypocrites and NutjobsTickets available at the link…

Ed Asner, the Emmy Award–winning television actor – a.k.a. Lou Grant – is also an activist and a self-proclaimed dauntless Democrat from the old days. In his new book The Grouchy Historian, he explains how liberals can reclaim the Constitution from the right-wingers who think that they – and only they – know how to interpret it. Asner is joined on stage by co-author and former Mary Tyler Moore Show producer Ed Weinberger.

Ed Asner is a television legend, the winner of seven acting Emmy Awards. In all, he has been nominated 20 times for an Emmy Award. One of the most respected actors of his generation, Asner is equally adept at comedy and drama, and has also made a name for himself as a trade unionist and a political activist. He served two terms as president of the Screen Actors Guild, from 1981 to 1985.

Ed. Weinberger began his career in the early 1960s with Dick Gregory and has written for such diverse comedians as Bob Hope, Richard Pryor and Johnny Carson (for five years on The Tonight Show). He wrote for and produced The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and co-created Taxi, Dear John and The Cosby Show. He also executive-produced and created Amen, Sparks and Good News. He has won three Golden Globe Awards, a Peabody and nine Emmys. In 2000, he received The Writer’s Guild of America Lifetime Achievement Award.

CA – An Evening with Ed Asner & Ed Weinberger

Ed Asner and Ed Weinberger appear on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 8:00 PM to discuss their upcoming book, The Grouchy Historian: An Old-Time Lefty Defends Our Constitution Against Right-Wing Hypocrites and Nutjobs. Tickets available at the link…

Television legend Ed Asner is well-known for his role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and subsequent spin-off, Lou Grant. He is the winner of seven acting Emmy Awards, and has been nominated a total of twenty times. Asner has also made a name for himself as a trade unionist and a political activist. During his two terms as president of the Screen Actors Guild, he was an outspoken critic of President Ronald Reagan, for his Central American policy.

Ed Weinberger has written for Bob Hope, Richard Pryor, and Johnny Carson (for five years on The Tonight Show). He wrote for and produced The Mary Tyler Moore Show, co-created Taxi, Dear John, and The Cosby Show. He has won three Golden Globe Awards, a Peabody, and nine Emmys. In 2000, he received The Writer’s Guild of America Lifetime Achievement Award.

A self-proclaimed “dauntless Democrat” from the old days, Ed Asner figures that if the right-wing is wrong about voter fraud, Obama’s death panels, and climate change, they are probably just as wrong when they interpret the Constitution and use it to defend their actions.

“Look around you at the chaos of our daily lives. I thought we should get a clear shot at what founded us. Maybe if we’re truly aware of the mixed bag that founded us, then we wouldn’t be too surprised at finding ourselves in the bed we’re in.”

In The Grouchy Historian: An Old-Time Lefty Defends Our Constitution Against Right-Wing Hypocrites and Nutjobs, Asner leads the charge for liberals to reclaim the Constitution from the right-wingers who use it as their justification for doing whatever terrible thing they want to do, which is usually to comfort the comfortable and afflict the afflicted. It’s about time someone gave them hell and explained that progressives can read, too.

CA – Dark Night: A True Batman Story Signing

Meet writer and producer Paul Dini when he appears at the Grove’s Barnes & Noble on Saturday, September 23rd at 5:00 PM to discuss a Batman story like no other-the harrowing and eloquent autobiographical tale of his courageous struggle to overcome a desperate situation.

Legendary writer Paul Dini is best known as a producer and writer for several Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and DC Comics animated series, including Tiny Toon Adventures, Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, and Batman Beyond. Dini is also the creator of Jingle Belle and co-creator of Harley Quinn.

Walking home one evening, Dini was jumped and viciously beaten within an inch of his life. His recovery process was arduous, hampered by the imagined antics of the villains he was writing for television including the Joker, Harley Quinn and the Penguin. But despite how bleak his circumstances were, or perhaps because of it, Dini also always imagined the Batman at his side, chivvying him along during his darkest moments. A gripping graphic memoir of one writer’s traumatic experience and his deep connection with his creative material, DARK NIGHT: A TRUE BATMAN STORY is an original graphic novel that will resonate profoundly with fans

Join Paul Dini for this Very Special Discussion and signing of Dark Knight: A True Batman Story on Batman Day.

This is a wristbanded event. A wristband will be issued on a first come, first serve basis to customers who purchase Dark Knight: A True Batman Story from Barnes & Noble at The Grove beginning September 23 at 9am
