Press Release:
The world-famous Hollywood Improv is proud to invite you to join Emmy and Annie award winner Rob Paulsen as he talks about his experiences in voice acting!
About Rob Paulsen:
Born in Detroit, Rob Paulsen spent his childhood in Livonia and Rochester, attending Junior and Senior high school in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Rob loved cartoons like most kids but aspired to be a professional hockey player. “Fortunately, thanks to some big, strong, kid from Winnipeg who drilled me so hard my ears are still ringing, I learned around age 18 I had neither the talent nor the temperament to make a living playing hockey. So, I turned to my other passions: singing and acting.”
The goal of bringing absolute believability to a fictional character, live-action or animated, is what every actor strives for. Those who are committed to their career and who combine experience, passion and skill are likely to succeed.
Those gifted with exceptional talent who focus on maximizing their potential by finding their own niche, quickly break away from the pack. After years of honing their craft and consistently delivering memorable performances in which the character impacts an indelible image on the viewer, the public and the industry take notice, singling out the best.
“I’m getting paid to do what I got in trouble for in the 7th grade,” jests Rob, who won a Daytime Emmy in 1999 as “Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program” for Pinky and The Brain (Warner Bros.) Though nominated twice previously, the victory was especially sweet due to some formidable competition – fellow nominees Louie Anderson, Ernest Borgnine, Dennis Franz and Jeffery Tambor. In addition to his Emmy, Rob won back-to-back Annie Awards in 1997 and 1998. “I absolutely love what I do and thank my lucky stars for twenty-five years of full-time employment in this business,” he says.
“It’s a treat to portray a complex character,” Rob explains about Pinky, a goof-ball mouse with funny teeth, a head filled with clouds and an inane imagination that is punctuated with a staccato laugh. “Besides … where else could I find a job where emotional outbursts and odd exclamations like ‘Egad!,’ ‘Narf!,’ ‘Poit!,’ ‘Splonk!,’ and ‘Zort!’ are allowed and in fact, encouraged?” With over 2,000 half-hours of animation to his credit, Rob’s versatility shines in his starring roles as the voices of Yakko, Pinky and Dr. Scratch ‘n’ Sniff in the Peabody and two-time Emmy award-winning series “Animaniacs.”
Some of Rob’s other well-known animated characters include Raphael of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Arthur in “The Tick,” the title role in “The Mask” (for a WHOLE lot less dough than Mr. Carrey, thank you), the title role in “Mighty Max,” Carl Wheezer in “Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius,” Jack Fenton in “Danny Phantom,” Bobble in the “Tinkerbell” series of DVDs and hopefully more to come.
Paulsen’s extensive credits include on-camera roles in numerous motion pictures including Body Double, Stewardess School, Eyes of Fire, The Perfect Match, and Warlocked. His television acting credits include guest-starring roles on MacGyver and St. Elsewhere. Additionally, he is one of the most sought-after voice actors in the commercial arena, performing in over 1000 commercial spots.
As passionate about “paying it forward” as he is about his lucrative career, Rob supports various charitable organizations, particularly those benefiting children and military veterans. Rob’s volunteer work with GOALmodels has been particularly rewarding. GOALmodels, a high school program in Reseda, California, is designed to inspire 9th graders to set goals and overcome obstacles in life. Blending his life experiences with passion for his work, his presentations are informative, entertaining and inspiring. In his leisure time, Rob enjoys golf, riding his motorcycle and occasionally lacing up his skates for another chance to relive his past glory on the rink. He spends the majority of his free time with his wife, Parrish, and their two Yorkshire terriers, Pooshie and Tala.

UK – O’Barr & Golden Signing
April 14, 2014 by Colin Solan

Comments Off on UK – O’Barr & Golden Signing
Press Release:
Orbital Comics is very pleased to announce James O’Barr (creator of The Crow), legendary Marvel artist Michael Golden (Avengers, G.I. Joe, Micronauts) and writer/editor/colorist Renee Witterstaetter will be signing in-store on Wednesday May 14 from 5pm. This is a rare opportunity to meet these industry legends and pick up some signed books and prints, so don’t miss out on what is sure to be a great night!
Then, once the store closes at 7:30 pm, we’ll have Michael Golden hosting a very special Dynamic Figure Drawing Class for ticketed customers – so if you’d like to take part then secure your place NOW. You can purchase tickets online at the link or pay for them in-store. Places are extremely limited, so act now if you plan on attending this one-off event!
James O’Barr is the award-winning creator of The Crow, and the writer of two hit series from IDW Publishing, entitled Curare and Skinning The Wolves. He likes to lament that he was born in a trailer in Detroit just in time to see Marilyn Monroe and John Kennedy die, but claims no responsibility for either. He spent his first seven years in an orphanage and foster care where he spent most of his time drawing. When he was adopted he brought along his crayons and has been using them ever since. While stationed in Berlin, in the late 70′s he created The Crow as an attempt to deal with the death of his fiance at the hands of a drunk driver. It took nearly ten years to finish and no publisher was interested in it (“too gloomy, too confusing”) until, on a whim, Caliber published the first issue in 1989. It is currently the best selling independent graphic novel of all time at over one million copies sold. In 1993 his book was adapted into the cult film of the same name starring Brandon Lee. He would like you to know that nearly all of the money made from the film was donated to children’s charities and he had nothing to do with the subsequent three sequels or TV show, but he will be a consultant on the new Crow movie that goes into production this year. He has worked for every major publisher. In Italy 1995, he won the Academy Award of comics, the Yellow Kid award for best storyteller.
Recently returned from a record breaking signing tour for the Italian Edition of The Crow, his most recent book is a new sketchbook from Eva Ink Publishing James O’Barr: Uncoffined.
Artist/writer/creator Michael Golden, is a legend in the comic book industry, but one that has never stopped adding to his legacy as a storytelling professional. Co-creator of The X-Men‘s Rogue, Spartan X, and Bucky O’Hare, Michael is known worldwide for his groundbreaking work on The ‘Nam, Micronauts, G.I. Joe Yearbook, and Dr. Strange, among MUCH more, and is counted as one of the best cover designers and illustrators in the business. Golden’s work can be seen on covers from Spawn, Nightwing, Iron Man, Heroes For Hire, Exiles, Demon’s Regret, Spider-man, Vampirella, Captain American, The Punisher to The Hulk, as well as numerous other titles, for about every company out there. It’s no wonder that Golden has been one of the most influential creators around for the last several decades: “… unless you can actually draw yourself, it is very difficult to understand the exact mind-blowing impossibility of what he does,” said writer/artist Larry Hama, of Golden’s work. Michael has served as an Editor at DC Comics as well as Senior Art Director at Marvel Comics, and has worked on scores of movie production projects, some currently in development. He has recently been awarded with Lifetime Achievement Awards from The University of Maryland Eastern Shore and the Lille Arts Festival.
Renee Witterstaetter is the author of Excess: The Art of Michael Golden, Tex: The Art of Mark Texeira, the critically acclaimed Nick Cardy: The Artist at War, Dying for Action: The Life & Films of Jackie Chan, Kerry & the Scary Things, Nick Cardy: Wit-Lash, and much more. Renee began the comic phase of her career working on such titles as Superman at DC Comics and Silver Surfer, Conan The Barbarian and Conan Saga at Marvel, then spearheading the reintroduction of She-Hulk at Marvel. She then moved over to Topps Comics where she was the editor on The X-Files, Jurassic Park, Xena & Hercules and, co-creating with artist Michael Golden, the successful series, Spartan X. Her newest books include Santa Confidential, by Hagar the Horrible artist Chris Browne and the sketchbook James O’Barr: Uncoffined. In addition, Renee has also been the colorist on hundreds of comics from The Avengers to Spider-man to Captain America among many, many more. Film work was a natural progression for Renee after this storytelling immersion in comics, and she has since worked on dozens of music videos for Madonna, Seal, Ben Harper and Usher, as well as the feature movies Crime Story, Rush Hour 2, and Red Dragon, among others. She is the President of Little Eva Ink Publishing and is also currently working in artist management via Eva Ink Artist Group.
