Stan Lee presents Dallas Comic Con (the 10th Anniversary show) brings major guests to Big D
On May 19-20, the Dallas Comic Con returns to the Irving Convention Center, and this promises to be the most incredible convention the Southwest has ever seen. The full title of the event is actually “Stan Lee presents Dallas Comic Con”, and marks Stan “The Man” Lee’s second appearance at the show (he last appeared in 2011, and had such a great time he wanted to return in 2012). This also happens to be the 10th Anniversary of the Dallas Comic Con, which started in 2002 with Guest of Honor Dave Stevens. This year’s installment pulls out all the stops, featuring media superstars Patrick Stewart (Saturday only), Val Kilmer, and Adam West and Burt Ward. Comic book legends Neal Adams (BATMAN: ODYSSEY), George Perez (DC New 52 SUPERMAN) and Zombie King Arthur Suydam headline the creator portion of the guest list, which also includes popular names like Len Wein (co-creator of WOLVERINE and SWAMP THING, writer of BEFORE WATCHMEN), Cully Hamner (co-creator of RED), Brian Stelfreeze (BATMAN: SHADOW OF THE BAT cover artist), Norm Breyfogle (quintessential BATMAN artist), Greg Horn (cover artist of ELEKTRA and EMMA FROST), Marvel artist and colorist husband and wife team Mitch and Elizabeth Breitweiser, and Alex Saviuk (SPIDER-MAN and Stan Lee’s MIGHTY 7 artist). The show will host a special appearance by BATMAN animated voice master Kevin Conroy (signing for FREE), and STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION’s “Q” John De Lancie. STAR WARS fans will enjoy meeting Darth Vader himself Dave Prowse and Boba Fett man behind the mask Jeremy Bulloch.
With the amazing guest list and high anticipation of the show’s return (last year drew nearly 12,000 attendees), both VIP and Priority badges have already sold out with nearly two months left before the convention. General Admission tickets are still available. DCC Event Manager Mark Walters says “This is the biggest event we’ve ever attempted to date, and the excitement surrounding it is amazing. We sold out of exhibit space and artist alley tables in record time, and the ticket sales are through the roof. Anyone attending is going to get their money’s worth, as we have an incredible list of talent coming, lots of exciting Q&As planned, and plenty to do and see. One thing we’ve always prided ourselves on is this being a great family experience, and we see more and more new families attending with each event we do – it’s a terrific feeling to know we’re bringing happiness to fans of all ages, and the ten years of hard work is really paying off for everyone.”
The Dallas Comic Con runs May 19-20, 2012 – at the Irving Convention Center, just 5 minutes or so from DFW airport. Discounted General Admission tickets are available in advance on the site. All the latest info can be found at http://dallascomiccon.com

The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book artists and craftsmen in need. Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for yesterday’s creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.
Since its inception, The Hero Initiative has had the good fortune to grant over $500,000 to the comics veterans who have paved the way for those in the industry today. For more information, visit www.heroinitiative.org or call 626-676-6354.
George Pérez, Paul Levitz, and Alex Saviuk sign at Tate’s Comics on January 21, 2012 from 5-8pm with a Hero Initiative auction following.
The social event of the season will take place January 21, 2012 at Tate’s Comics in Lauderhill, FL, in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area. Tate’s famous Bear and Bird Gallery will display 297 vintage DC Comics cover proofs from 1964-1974 that once belonged to legendary DC Editor Julius Schwartz. To kick off the exhibition, Tate’s is hosting in-store signing with Paul Levitz, George Pérez, and Alex Saviuk on January 21 as well. In addition, the second leg of Hero Initiative’s “Justice League of America 100 Project” auction will take place on the same evening. All proceeds from this big event benefit Hero Initiative, the non-profit organization that helps comic creators in medical and financial need.
“Proof of Heroes” is a gallery exhibition running January 20th thru March 3rd which will feature nearly 300 comic book cover printer’s proofs, spanning a decade (1964-1974) of Julius Schwartz’ 42 year run as Editor at DC Comics. All the cover proofs in this collection will be available for sale at the price of $100 each, and include a Certificate of Authenticity.
When The Hero Initiative approached Tate’s Comics about the idea of showcasing this collection in their upstairs gallery space, Bear and Bird, they jumped at the chance.
“These unique and cool cover proofs are an important part of DC Comics history,” said store owner Tate Ottati. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to offer a great gallery event for our customers, and to also help out The Hero Initiative with their very worthwhile cause.”
The “Proof of Heroes” Gallery Show Reception will be held January 21 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., immediately after the signing from 5pm-8 p.m.
During the Proof of Heroes reception, the JLA 100 Project live auction will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. The Justice League of America 100 Project is an exhibition and auction of original covers created by 100 well-known modern comic book superstars, including Alan Davis, George Pérez, John Romita and Alex Ross. On January 20 and 21, fans will have the opportunity to view this travelling action at Tate’s.
“I’m thrilled to be part of such a great project, and also showcased among so many of the greatest artists in the world,” said Hero Initiative Chairman George Pérez. “And of course, it’s wonderful that sales of the covers will go toward helping many comic creators in need.”
This project represents Hero Initiative’s first major collaboration with DC Comics. In addition to the on-site auction of one-third of the featured covers, both hardcover and softcover editions of The Justice League of America 100 Project, a book collecting all the covers, will be available for sale.
“We are honored to support such a worthwhile cause and encourage DC Comics fans to participate in these Hero Initiative auctions that offer one-of-a-kind Justice League #50 covers,” stated Dan DiDio, co-publisher of DC Entertainment.
If you cannot make this once-in-a-lifetime event and would like to bid on one of these magnificent covers, proxy bidding is available by contacting Joe Davidson at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline for proxy bids is January 10, 2012.

Tampa Bay Comic Con is Back and Looking Forward!
November 2nd, 2011 – The Tampa Bay Comic Con is back with an exciting convention set for November 13th, 2011, and a very bright future on the horizon for 2012! The convention has brought in a fantastic roster of guests to headline the November 13th show. The roster includes: Bob Camp, the co-creator of the “Ren and Stimpy Show”, Marvel Comics artist and wide scale storyboard artist for animated TV shows and movies. Camp also created the Tampa Bay Comic Con exclusive poster (featuring Ren and Stimpy) for the upcoming convention. Other guests include Larry Mainland and Sonya Thompson whom are both cast members and primary marketing zombies (featured as zombies on the cover of the Dec 2nd, 2010 issue of Entertainment Weekly) for AMC’s TV series, “The Walking Dead” and films such as “Zombieland” and “Contagion”. Additional guests include, Cary Nord, the critically-acclaimed artist known for his work on Conan the Barbarian, Bob McLeod, veteran artist of numerous titles and the co-creator of the X-Men spin-off, “New Mutants”, long-time Spider-Man artist Alex Saviuk and Paul Pelletier who is widely known for his artistry in such titles as Green Lantern and Hulk.
The Tampa Bay Comic Con also announced that it will transform its decade-old format of three 1-Day conventions per year to a format entailing two, 2-Day conventions per year. With strong support from fans and exhibitors, convention management made this decision as they believe that with the recent surge in popularity and attendance, the convention had outgrown the 1-Day format. It is believed that a 2-Day convention format will allow for the attendance of even more high-profile guests from the world of comics and Hollywood.
Tampa Bay Comic Con will be held on Sunday, November 13th, 2011 at the Doubletree Hotel in Tampa, FL from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Admission is $5.00 for adults and free for children (12 and under). The address is:
4500 West Cypress Street
