The exhibit Joe Kubert and the Art of Yossel: April 19, 1943 is on display this fall in RIT’s Cary Graphic Arts Collection, and at this event, Adam Kubert will talk about his father’s legacy in comics art with special guests. The discussion will be moderated by Daniel Worden, RIT Professor of Art History.
A reception and comic book signing in Wallace Library will follow. Free and open to the public. Registration is required.
Born 100 years ago in 1926, Joe Kubert is one of the great artists in comics history, celebrated for his iconic drawings of Hawkman, Sgt. Rock, Tarzan, and Tor, founder of the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in 1976, and acclaimed for his graphic novels Fax From Sarajevo, Jew Gangster, and Yossel: April 19, 1943. RIT’s Cary Graphic Arts Collection and Kubert Comics Gallery hold a significant archive of Joe Kubert’s studio materials, correspondence, process work, and original art, some of which is featured in the exhibit alongside Joe Kubert’s original art pages for the graphic novel Yossel: April 19, 1943.
Adam Kubert is an American comic book artist and part of the famous Kubert family of comic book creators, including his father, Joe Kubert, and his brother, Andy Kubert. He studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology and later at The Kubert School, founded by his father, where he also served as an instructor throughout his career. Adam began his career in comics lettering at the age of 12 on various DC Comics titles. Over the span of decades, Adam has worked on hit titles such as: X-Men, Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, Avengers, Spider-Man, Superman, Ghost Rider and almost all Marvel titles in some form. He is best known for his iconic runs on Marvel’s hit series Wolverine.
