Creative York is proud to present a solo exhibition by acclaimed cartoonist, illustrator, and author Mark Schultz in the Kerlin Gallery from June 25 through August 8, 2026.

Sponsored by Steven and Ina Caplan, the exhibition will showcase original artwork from Schultz’s celebrated career spanning comics, illustration, science education, and adventure storytelling.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 26, from 6–8 p.m. at Creative York. The event is free and open to the public.

Mark Schultz is an American cartoonist, illustrator and author who works with varying combinations of pictures and words, depending on the story. His interest in adventure fiction and the sciences led him to create his award-winning Xenozoic Tales comics series, which has remained in continuous print for over three decades. In collaboration with paleontologist Dr. Michael J. Ryan he created the comic book miniseries SubHuman. He has illustrated a collection of Robert E. Howard’s Conan of Cimmeria and written the science primer The Stuff of Life: A Graphic Guide to Genetics and DNA, as well as scripted a four year run on DC’s Superman, Man of Steel. His illustrated novella, Storms at Sea, was released in 2015. Currently, he writes the adventures of Prince Valiant for King Features Syndicate while working on a sequel to Storms at Sea.

As part of his visit to York, Schultz will lead an Inking and Illustration Masterclass on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Designed for artists ages 15 and older, the workshop offers participants a unique opportunity to learn professional illustration and inking techniques from one of the industry’s most respected creators. The class will explore the tools, methods, and storytelling principles that have defined Schultz’s career while providing hands-on instruction and creative guidance. Registration for the workshop is required and space is limited. Register at creativeyork.org
