Fantagraphics Bookstore hosts the opening reception for an Incredibly Strange Wrestling retrospective on Saturday, January 10th at 5pm featuring colorful prints, posters, and flyers by acclaimed San Francisco artist Chuck Sperry, along with photos and ephemera from the 1990s punk rock rasslin’ phenomenon.
According to Sperry, “Calling Incredibly Strange Wrestling an event—even calling it a multi-dimensional entertainment—falls pathetically short of capturing the madness and mayhem that would descend on the poor nightclub who hosted this strange mix of music and Mexican wrestling. Incredibly Strange Wrestling was the high-water mark of San Francisco’s wild 1990s and early 2000s. It was a potent brew of everything that was so damned wrong, that it was so damned right.”
DJ Thirst ‘N’ Howl will spinning period correct records, liver permitting. Refreshments will be served.
