  Your Convention Experience Starts Now!

Comic conventions are an explosion of fandom, from film to television to comics and more – and one of the biggest is coming up this week! Comics Experience is heading to San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) with panels, networking, and a wealth of comics knowledge.

Where to Find Us at SDCC

We have four panels at SDCC this year and are so excited to bring together so many industry professionals for these impactful discussions! The full, up-to-date schedule can be found on the SDCC website. Take a look at where you can find us this weekend:

The Art of Comic Book Collaboration | Thursday, July 24, 3PM-4PM PT | Room 11 – A discussion with Heather Antos, Reilly Brown, Rich Douek, and Andy Schmidt on navigating working relationships and setting your collaboration up for success.

Pitching Your Comic to Publishers | Friday, July 25, 11AM-12PM PT | Room 4 – Insights from Bobby Curnow, Rich Douek, Gamal Hennessy, Andy Schmidt, and Jake Thomas on pitching to major comics publishers – an indispensable trove of strategic information.

Breaking Into Comics and Staying In | Friday, July 25, 2PM-3PM PT | Room 11 – Heather Antos, Reilly Brown, Charlie Stickney, Andy Schmidt, and Jake Thomas share insight and advice on what to do (and what not to do) to get your foot in the door.

The Business of Freelance Comic Books | Saturday, July 26, 6PM-7PM PT | Room 23ABC – Gamal Hennessy, Joseph Illidge, and Rich Douek discuss how freelance comic creators are the foundation of the industry, how to establish yourself in the business, and the realities of working in comics.

CE Networking Meetup with Gamal Hennessy Friday, July 25 7PM-9 PM PT at the Agave Bar & Grill (the poolside bar in the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina)

We’ve also scheduled a meetup at the Marriott’s poolside bar. It’s a great opportunity to meet some fellow creators in a casual, no pressure environment. There’s no specific reserved space, just look for Gamal and you’ll be in the right place!

Resources for Navigating Your Convention Experience

Let’s be real, conventions can be… a lot. There are panels, networking, exhibiting, and more happening all the time, with surprises around every corner. There will be FOMO (fear of missing out). Fortunately, we have several resources and courses to help you navigate these impactful spaces, both this weekend and beyond:

Express Course: Conventioning Like a Pro: Gamal Hennessy provides a roadmap for being a professional comic creator IRL.

Community Pro Lesson: Networking as a Comic Book Creator (Community Pro members): Watch the replay of our July 2025 Community Pro lesson on networking.

Blog: How to Be a Comics Professional: Comics are so much more than just the comic creation – and communication is key to success.

On-Demand Course: The Art of Being a Working Comic Creator expands on the points Andy shares in the blog post above.

Podcast: Where Can You Find an Audience for Your Comic? Andy and Gamal discuss the secret of finding the right people to buy and read your comic beyond the confines of a comic book shop.
