Our annual tradition, the Baltimore Comic-Con Yearbook, returns in 2022 for the tenth year, celebrating creators appearing at this year’s show. This year’s book of art features interpretations of characters from 2022 guest Jill Thompson’s award-winning Scary Godmother.
Beautifully designed by returning guest and Cupid’s Arrows, Warning Label, Time and Vine, and Love and Capes creator Thom Zahler, the book comes in a standard and, for VIP ticketholders, a limited VIP cover edition.
Scary Godmother follows the title character, often (but not always!) on Halloween night, getting up to to Trick or Treats with a cast of characters, including little Hannah Marie, her rotten older cousin Jimmy, Orson, the vampire boy, Ruby and Max, the vampire lovers, Bug-A-Boo, the Boozle, and Skully Pettibone, among others. Their madcap adventures find them solving problems, meeting lovable monsters, going on quests, and more!
Jill Thompson’s award-winning children’s series Scary Godmother is also widely known from the Cartoon Network animated feature.
“I am honored and delighted that The Scary Godmother has been chosen as this year’s Baltimore Comic-Con Yearbook!” said Thompson. “It’s always magical to see other artists’ interpretation of my characters! I hope the fans love it as much as I do! Truly it will be a spooky good Treat for this Halloween season!”
The Baltimore Comic-Con scavenger hunt, which has become a must-do activity for many of our fans, will be back in 2022! When you buy the book, you’ll get a list of Yearbook contributors and their table numbers. Participants succeeding in acquiring the appropriate quota of autographs from contributors can then get their choice of bonus prints — and it’s a great way to meet our guests!
“I won’t lie — we’ve been trying to make this yearbook theme happen for years now!” said Marc Nathan, show promoter for the Baltimore Comic-Con. “The pandemic spoiled our plans originally, though we were happy to involve Jill in our virtual event in 2020. Last year would have been pretty good timing, calendar-wise, but this year is perfect – a Halloween show – so we couldn’t be happier for the fates to have served up this scenario. Scary Godmother and her cast of characters are such great visual subjects. Artists were immediately enthusiastic about this year’s theme, and we’ve already seen a handful of great submissions. Fans won’t want to miss this yearbook — it’s going to be fantastic!”
The book will be sold in the Exclusives Booth in the lobby. The book will be available at the Baltimore Comic-Con for $29.99. The art auction featuring original art from the book will be held at 5pm on Saturday, October 29th in our Main hall.
