Naomi Novik continues to take inspiration from the Eastern European immigrant experience: as her Nebula award-winning novel Uprooted drew on her mother’s Polish heritage and fairy tales, Spinning Silver is influenced by Novik’s father and his family’s story: Lithuanian Jews who struggled to survive through the oppressive Nazi and Communist regimes.
