Join tall ship sailor and Professional Adventure Cartoonist Lucy Bellwood for a special event on Thursday, August 16th at the Maritime Museum of San Diego!
Bellwood is touring the US with her latest collection of comics, 100 Demon Dialogues, but is visiting SD Maritime to give a double-header talk also featuring her first book: Baggywrinkles. This rollicking tale of real-life adventure gives readers a glimpse of life at sea in six charming, illustrated tales—all drawn from Bellwood’s time working as a deckhand aboard the Lady Washington. Her comics have also covered oceanographic research in the Pacific aboard R/V Falkor and sail training aboard vessels like the Charles W. Morgan and Oliver Hazard Perry.
Join us for a free signing from 6-7pm in the Museum’s Gift Shop (open to the public), then grab a ticket and step aboard the historic Steam Ferry Berkeley for a lecture on Bellwood’s illustrated adventures at sea at 7:15!
General museum admission is $18 (discounts available for seniors, students, kids, and active military) and includes access to all the incredible vessels on display until 9pm. Copies of Bellwood’s books will be available for purchase in the Gift Shop.
