Author Marc Tyler Nobleman appears at Tifereth Israel Congregation on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM!

Superman’s Jewish Roots

In discussing Boys of Steel, Marc will address the Superman/Moses parallel, the curious possible origin behind Superman’s Hebraic-sounding Kryptonian name, the truth about whether or not Hitler himself personally banned Superman comics, and why Joe Shuster could not draw on the day before Shabbat, plus much more. His presentation will include images from Superman and other comics to illustrate his points as he discusses two young Cleveland Jews and their enduring contribution to American pop culture.

A Very Special Birthday

February 8th would have been the 100th birthday of Bill Finger, the secret co-creator of Batman. As part of the presentation Marc will share the results of his research into this relatively unknown writer who influenced the Dark Knight as much as the publicly credited creator Bob Kane. This research led to the publication last year of “Bill The Boy Wonder”, a controversial picture book that addresses the writer’s Jewish background on the very first page.

Stay For The Dessert

Later in the evening we’ll be serving up soda shoppe classics including egg cremes, root beer floats, and ice cream sodas. Have a slice of warm apple pie or your choice of other desserts to finish off the evening right. During dessert Marc will be happy to continue the conversation from his talk and sign copies of his books.
