Neil Gaiman, Karen Hesse, Grace Lin, and Jerry Spinelli are honored on Sept 26th at the Boston Public Library.

The Associates of the Boston Public Library will hold the twelfth Literary Lights for Children tea party on Sunday, September 26th in the beautiful Bates Reading Room at the Boston Public Library. Starting at 2:00 in the afternoon, the event will honor these four authors, all of whom will speak to the audience. After the party, there will be book sales and signing in the adjacent Abbey Room.

“Literary Lights for Children” seeks to raise awareness of Children’s literature, promote literacy, honor children’s authors, and raise money for the Library’s children’s services and collections. Four students selected from Boston area schools introduce and present the awards to each of the honored authors. The honorees then discuss their writing careers and share their love of books with the audience of over 450 children and adults. Tea refreshments are served. Immediately following the event, there will be book sales and signings with the authors. The book sales & signing portion of the program following the event begins at approximately 3:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Tickets are $60 per adult and $40 per child; children must be accompanied by an adult. Sponsorship opportunities are also available at the Grand Benefactor ($2,000), Special Benefactor ($1000), Benefactor ($500) and Patron ($250) levels. People are encouraged to sponsor children who would otherwise be unable to participate, by purchasing and donating extra tickets to the awards presentation & tea party. Proceeds from this event will fund children’s services and special programs for children and young adults.
