CA – Young Animal Panel

Skylight Books hosts a discussion about DC’s Young Animal imprint with Gerard Way, Cecil Castellucci, Jonathan Rivera, and Jody Houser on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 7:30 PM.

Gerard Way is the Eisner Award-winning writer of The Umbrella Academy and the comics miniseries The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. Cecil Castellucci is the author of books and graphic novels for young adults including Boy Proof, The Plain Janes, First Day on Earth and the Eisner-nominated Odd Duck. She is currently writing Shade the Changing Girl, Vol. 1 Earth Girl Made Easy, an ongoing comic on Gerard Way’s DC Young Animal imprint. Her picture book, Grandma’s Gloves, won the California Book Award Gold Medal. She lives in Los Angeles.

Jon Rivera is a writer of comic books and graphic novels, best known for his work on DC’s Young Animal. CAVE CARSON HAS A CYBERNETIC EYE, co-written by imprint founder Gerard Way, is one of the line’s inaugural titles.

Jody Houser is the creator behind the webcomic Cupcake POW! Houser has written Faith for Valiant Comics, Max Ride: Ultimate Flight and Agent May for Marvel, and Orphan Black for IDW. She has been a contributing writer to numerous comics anthologies, including Avengers: No More Bullying, Vertigo CMYK: Magenta, and both Womanthology series. Artist Ming Doyle (Mara, Guardians of the Galaxy) appears at Comicopia in Kenmore Square on Saturday November 15th from 1:00 – 3:00 PM to sign THE KITCHEN #1!

About The Kitchen:

New York City, late 1970s. Times Square is a haven for sex and drugs. The city teeters on the verge of bankruptcy, while blackouts can strike at any moment. This is the world of THE KITCHEN.

The Irish gangs of Hell’s Kitchen rule the neighborhood, bringing terror to the streets and doing the dirty work for the Italian Mafia. Jimmy Brennan and his crew were the hardest bastards in the Kitchen, but after they’re all put in prison, their wives – Kath, Raven and Angie – decide to keep running their rackets. And once they get a taste of the fast life and easy money, it won’t be easy to stop.

THE KITCHEN takes one of the most popular genres in entertainment and, like The Sopranos, reimagines it for a new generation to present a classic gangster story told from a fresh point of view.

Written by talented newcomer Ollie Masters with stunning art by Ming Doyle (Mara) and killer covers by Becky Cloonan (GOTHAM ACADEMY, Killjoys, DEMO), THE KITCHEN is not to be missed.

MING DOYLE, JOE QUINONES, and MARIS WICKS appear at The Big Bang on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm for a rare Irish signing!

RSVP on Facebook!

MING DOYLE
Probably better known for her work on Brian Wood’s MARA and the artist in the new story arc of QUANTUM & WOODY, Ming also has done a ton of covers and a short story recently with Kelly Sue DeConnick for the WITCHING HOUR Vertigo anthology. (stil in stock, true believers!)

JOE QUINONES
Joe has been around for the last couple of years, starting with TEEN TITANS GO and then GREEN LANTERN with Kurt Busiek and is of late a popular cover artist for DARK HORSE, DC and MARVEL (the last thing you’ll have seen him lately on would be the recent CAPTAIN MARVEL covers). He also has a BLACK CANARY/ZATANNA project coming out with Paul Dini soon, the lucky bastard.

MARIS WICKS
Maris is the artist of (the really, really good) PRIMATES, which is currently sold out but due back in stock soon!
She is also a writer AND a colourist, so we’ll be seeing much more of her in the future.
