His undeniable talent and unique brand of humor have become truly iconic in entertainment and he continues to entertain fans around the world.
BURT WARD: At the age of 20, Ward auditioned for the part of Robin. After beating out over 1,100 other kids for the part, Ward was cast alongside Adam West in the title role, and the two would go on to become pop culture icons. First airing as a mid-season replacement, Batman took the ratings – and world – by storm with its vivid colors and larger than life villains, played by some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
The series went on to produce 120 episodes and a full length feature film. The multi-level appeal of the show made it a life-long favorite for fans young and old. The show still airs today in 50 countries worldwide. Burt Ward and Adam West quickly became household names and remain that way today.
Today, Burt and his wife operate the largest giant breed dog rescue in the world, Gentle Giants Rescue. Over the past 18 years, they have rescued over 14,000 dogs. She soon became an overnight sensation as the one and only Stupefyin’ Jones in Li’l Abner. Julie would recreate the same role on Broadway 42 years later, in the same costume. Subsequent to the original performance, her legs were insured for 10 million dollars (not however, in the event of theft).
Julie won a Tony for her acting role on Broadway in the hit comedy Marriage-Go-Round, and she was immediately accepted by the prestigious Actors Studio. Adam West receives his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. with special guests Ralph Garman and Seth McFarlane at 6764 Hollywood Boulevard in front of The Guinness World of Records Museum.*
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will honor Adam West with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. “We are thrilled to honor Adam with this prestigious award. Fans have been waiting for this special day for many years. Adam West fired up the billion dollar Batman franchise: the golden years and the classic Batman, the Bright Knight. He deserves his place of honor on our famed Walk of Fame,” said Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO.
During the span of a 50-year career, from Batman to the voice of Quahog’s Mayor on Family Guy, Adam West has become a television icon.
Born in Walla Walla, Washington as William West Anderson , Adam began his career as a radio DJ and TV show host. He arrived in Hollywood in 1959, after landing a contract with Warner Brothers studios. That same year, he made his feature film debut opposite Paul Newman in The Young Philadelphians.
A long line of TV roles followed on shows like Maverick, Bonanza and The Outer Limits, as well as a co-starring role for a season on The Detectives.
But, in 1965, his life would change forever when producer William Dozier, impressed by Adam’s talent, looks and humor, handpicked him to take on the title role of ABC’s new TV series, BATMAN.
It’s been said the biggest pop-culture phenomena of the 1960’s can be boiled down to the “Three B’s”: Beatles, Bond, and BATMAN. In the early 1960’s, Batman was simply a cartoon character in a comic book that was close to cancellation, but Adam West’s performance in the ground-breaking TV adaptation propelled Batman into becoming one of the most-famous characters in modern fiction. West’s turn as the “classic” Batman has laid the foundation for the success of all the incarnations of the “Caped Crusader” that have followed after him. The smash success of the TV series, and the feature film that followed shortly thereafter, launched Adam West into international superstardom in 1966.
After its original run, BATMAN entered into non-stop syndication and Adam West has continued to garner new generations of fans all over the world for the past 40 years. All the while, he’s continued to work on stage, in movies and TV, and as a much sought-after voice actor.
It’s his wildly successful career as a voice actor that has brought him his most recent triumph as “Mayor Adam West” on the hugely popular, and critically-acclaimed, TV series Family Guy on the Fox network. Family Guy airs on Sunday evenings on FOX and fans can enjoy more from Family Guy with never-before-seen footage and extras when Volume 10 releases on DVD this Fall. Also this spring, fans can interact with Mr. West as he reprises his role as Family Guy’s Mayor Adam West, but this time in a virtual format in Twentieth Century Fox’s upcoming Family Guy Online game.
For the past 50 years, Adam West has not only been an international television star, but also a devoted father and husband, philanthropist, and dedicated ambassador of goodwill for the entertainment industry as he greets hundreds of thousands of his fans during personal appearances all over the globe.
*Special Note: Adam West has a Guinness World Record!
MOST APPEARANCES AS BATMAN:
Adam West has made 156 individual screen appearances as Batman, including 120 episodes of the 1966-68 Batman TV series and its accompanying feature film, numerous voiceover performances for animated series and TV movies, and the computer generated video short Batman: New Times’ in 2005.
Kevin Conroy, who has voiced the character in animated series and films since 1993, has notched up 118 appearances, putting him in 2nd place, and Olan Soule, who provided Batman’s voice during the 70s and 80s, comes in at 3rd place with 68 separate appearances.”

Stan Lee presents Dallas Comic Con (the 10th Anniversary show) brings major guests to Big D
On May 19-20, the Dallas Comic Con returns to the Irving Convention Center, and this promises to be the most incredible convention the Southwest has ever seen. The full title of the event is actually “Stan Lee presents Dallas Comic Con”, and marks Stan “The Man” Lee’s second appearance at the show (he last appeared in 2011, and had such a great time he wanted to return in 2012). This also happens to be the 10th Anniversary of the Dallas Comic Con, which started in 2002 with Guest of Honor Dave Stevens. This year’s installment pulls out all the stops, featuring media superstars Patrick Stewart (Saturday only), Val Kilmer, and Adam West and Burt Ward. Comic book legends Neal Adams (BATMAN: ODYSSEY), George Perez (DC New 52 SUPERMAN) and Zombie King Arthur Suydam headline the creator portion of the guest list, which also includes popular names like Len Wein (co-creator of WOLVERINE and SWAMP THING, writer of BEFORE WATCHMEN), Cully Hamner (co-creator of RED), Brian Stelfreeze (BATMAN: SHADOW OF THE BAT cover artist), Norm Breyfogle (quintessential BATMAN artist), Greg Horn (cover artist of ELEKTRA and EMMA FROST), Marvel artist and colorist husband and wife team Mitch and Elizabeth Breitweiser, and Alex Saviuk (SPIDER-MAN and Stan Lee’s MIGHTY 7 artist). The show will host a special appearance by BATMAN animated voice master Kevin Conroy (signing for FREE), and STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION’s “Q” John De Lancie. STAR WARS fans will enjoy meeting Darth Vader himself Dave Prowse and Boba Fett man behind the mask Jeremy Bulloch.
With the amazing guest list and high anticipation of the show’s return (last year drew nearly 12,000 attendees), both VIP and Priority badges have already sold out with nearly two months left before the convention. General Admission tickets are still available. DCC Event Manager Mark Walters says “This is the biggest event we’ve ever attempted to date, and the excitement surrounding it is amazing. We sold out of exhibit space and artist alley tables in record time, and the ticket sales are through the roof. Anyone attending is going to get their money’s worth, as we have an incredible list of talent coming, lots of exciting Q&As planned, and plenty to do and see. One thing we’ve always prided ourselves on is this being a great family experience, and we see more and more new families attending with each event we do – it’s a terrific feeling to know we’re bringing happiness to fans of all ages, and the ten years of hard work is really paying off for everyone.”
The Dallas Comic Con runs May 19-20, 2012 – at the Irving Convention Center, just 5 minutes or so from DFW airport. Discounted General Admission tickets are available in advance on the site. All the latest info can be found at http://dallascomiccon.com
