The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that the late Bob Kane will be honored posthumously with the 2,562nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, October 21st, at 11:30 a.m. PDT. The star in the category of Motion Pictures will be dedicated at 6764 Hollywood Boulevard in front of GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Museum. “Kane’s creation of American cultural icon Batman is every child’s dream Super Hero. We are excited to honor the man who gave life to this great character,” stated Walk of Fame Producer Ana Martinez. “Fans from all over the world have been waiting for this monumental day and we hope Kane’s shiny star forever inspires generations of creative minds.”
Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star will be filmmaker Zack Snyder and DC Entertainment Co-publisher and acclaimed artist Jim Lee. Snyder is at the helm of the upcoming action adventure Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice due in theaters March 25, 2016, and will next direct the long-awaited Justice League feature film. Lee, who had the pleasure of meeting Bob Kane, will speak to the character’s enduring appeal and how Batman has captured the imagination of the entire world.
In 1939 in a New York art studio, Bob Kane created one of the most popular characters of the twentieth century – The Batman. Kane’s creation has become the star of comic books, Saturday afternoon movie serials, newspaper comic strips, a live-action TV series, several animated TV series, and several of the largest-grossing feature films of all time.
“I suppose I must have had printer’s ink in my blood,” Kane said of his childhood, “for as far back as I can recall, I’ve had a pencil in my hand. When I was ten, my dad was a printer for the New York Daily News. He’d bring home all the paper’s comics, and I copied them constantly. It got so eventually I could do them as well as the cartoonists themselves.” This informal training led the young Kane to create his own comics. By 1938, he was selling humorous stories to DC Comics, including the features “Professor Doolittle” and “Ginger Snapp.”
In 1939, one year after Superman’s debut, DC Comics editor Vincent Sullivan decided that he wanted another costumed hero. He asked 22-year-old Bob Kane for his ideas. “I went home that weekend,” Kane recalled, “traced some sketches of Superman, and started penciling different costume ideas. It was then that I got my first brainstorm: I remembered one of Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches – a drawing of a flying machine with bat wings. That’s what germinated the idea for Batman. The second influence on me was the hero with the dual identity in The Mark Of Zorro. And then I thought about ‘The Bat Whispers,’ a mystery movie written by Mary Roberts Rinehart.
“I realized I was getting closer. I drew a character with bird wings and called him Bird Man, but that wasn’t quite right. So I changed the wings, made them bat-like, and called him Batman. Almost every famous character ever created had a kind of simplistic, definitive design that was easily recognizable, and that’s what I was striving for with Batman.”
The first published appearance of The Bat-Man, as he was then known, was in the May 1939 issue of Detective Comics #27. Batman’s first adventure was called “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate,” and was written by Kane’s frequent collaborator, Bill Finger, who over the years would make many significant contributions to the Batman universe. The character was so successful that one year later the first comic book devoted exclusively to the popular caped crusader’s adventures, BATMAN #1, hit the newsstands. In that issue, Batman battled The Joker and Catwoman for the first time.
Bob Kane continued to illustrate Batman’s comic book adventures until his retirement in 1968. His work covered not only countless comic book adventures, but also three years of the “Batman and Robin” newspaper comic strip, which ran from 1943 to 1946.
The success of the Batman television show in 1966 brought Kane and his art back into the public eye. Kane was subsequently featured in various one-man art shows at galleries and museums nationwide. He served as a consultant on the 1989 Batman feature film and its three sequels. Kane’s autobiography, Batman And Me, was published in 1989. Seven years later, Kane was inducted into the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame in 1996. Bob Kane, the American cartoonist, died on November 3, 1998.
Bob Kane was generous with his time and resources. He often visited children’s hospitals and donated funds to such organizations as Feed the Children, Make a Wish Foundation, the Westside Children’s Center, the Bay Area Youth Center and many other agencies providing services to the hungry, homeless, abused or abandoned children. The creative philanthropist donated a portion of proceeds from his one-man exhibit of original Batman oil paintings at the Carlton House’s Paul Stooshnoff Gallery to the American Cancer Fund. He also wrote and illustrated numerous comic strips, cartoons and comic books in tribute to Batman with all proceeds to benefit the Child Welfare League of America.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ Upcoming Super Hero Movie Will Film in Michigan
The film, from director Zack Snyder, brings together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time—Superman and Batman—for the first time on the big screen. Production on the new film is expected to begin in metro Detroit and throughout Michigan sometime in the first quarter of 2014. Snyder is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who is writing the screenplay. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing the film, which will star Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.
“This project will further strengthen the reputation of Michigan and metro Detroit as a premier film destination,” said Margaret O’Riley, director of the Michigan Film Office. “We look forward to the spotlight shining on our incredibly talented workforce and the businesses that support our film industry here in Michigan.”
“Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie,” stated filmmaker Zack Snyder. “Detroit and the entire state of Michigan have been fantastic collaborators, and we are looking forward to working together on this film.”
The as-yet-untitled feature film was awarded an incentive of $35 million on $131 million of projected in-state expenditures. The production is expected to hire 406 Michigan workers, with a full time equivalent of 426 jobs, plus an additional 6,000 man/days of extra work. The production anticipates using approximately 500 local Michigan vendors during the course of production and spending $5.1 million on local hotels, as well as an additional $3.5 million in out-of-town cast and crew per diem payments that will be spent in the local economy but which fall outside of the incentive program.
The incentive funding for the project will be allocated out of the Fiscal Year 2014 budget. However, any funding remaining from the budget at the end of the current fiscal year will be directed to offset the full incentive amount for this project.

Walmart Gives Superman Fans Exclusive Access to the First Screening of “Man of Steel”
Tickets to the June 13 advance screening on sale at Walmart on May 18
BENTONVILLE, AR, and BURBANK, CA – April 24, 2013 – Superman fans, mark your calendars! Walmart announced today that it has partnered with Warner Bros. to give its customers exclusive access to see Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Man of Steel” in theaters nationwide before the film’s official release. This program marks the first time in entertainment history that a studio has partnered with a retailer to provide such an opportunity for fans.
Tickets for the exclusive screening of “Man of Steel,” will go on sale in more than 3,700 Walmart stores starting at 8 a.m. on May 18. Customers will be able to purchase up to four tickets per visit, and have the option to choose between 2D or 3D showings, where applicable. The advance screening will take place in selected local theaters nationwide at 7 p.m. on June 13.

New Man of Steel and Star Trek Into Darkness posters! And it’s only Monday!
San Diego was home to the biggest pop culture event of the year on July 11-15, 2012, with the 43rd annual Comic Con taking place. In my 8 years of attending the show, I’ve never seen the convention halls that packed! With lines for everything, from the infamous Hall H, to the new autograph line system, as well as Ballrooms with various panels, including a 10 year reunion panel for Firefly, Comic Con definitely made me feel as if it finally hit capacity and rumors rumbled around that perhaps Comic Con might have outgrown San Diego.
There were definite ways to improve comic con, including controlling the flow of people going in and out of the show floor, but over all, it was yet another very fun con, with amazing guests, and tons of things to do or buy at the show. With the final Twilight panel in San Diego, Henry Cavill’s surprise appearance for Man of Steel, along with fan favorite shows such as Big Bang Theory and Dr. Who, as well as the Walking Dead Zombie Run at Petco Park across the street, Comic Con had something for everyone! While I wasn’t on the show floor as much as I’d like to have been, here are the things I saw and experienced at this year’s show. And a hello to all the readers I met at the show who loved our site!
After hitting up artist alley and signing up for some commissions, I had a meeting with the Disney Store booth, showing me the latest in vinylmation figures for sale at the show and online!

After roundtables and press conferences, it was party time!
Partying all night was not conducive to an early morning, but I managed to wake up to my alarm, and make the autograph ticket lines, scoring a Game of Thrones sign pass.
On the agenda for Friday was the Resident Evil 5 press roundtables, Firefly press conference, as well as the Game of Thrones signing!

AFter the excitement from the past 3 days, what else could Comic Con possibly have up their sleeves?
How about Breaking Bad, Robert Downey Jr., Walking Dead Zombie Run at Petco Park, and an awesome exclusive print by Mondo?
With my con luck kicking into overdrive, I managed to get in line for the cast of Breaking Bad at the 10 AM signing at the Sony booth! The whole cast was very generous with their time, signing, taking pictures, and was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at Comic Con!
After thrilling kids and fans alike, I went across the street to Petco Park, where I participated in the Walking Dead Zombie Run! Here’s some pics from my run.

BURBANK, Calif., Jul 11, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Warner Bros. Pictures will once again have a major presence at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, including appearances by fan-favorite stars and filmmakers from some of the Studio’s most anticipated films. Comic-Con attendees will also be treated to never-before-seen footage, including some that will be shown nowhere else. Talent from the films will also be on hand to answer questions, sign autographs, and more.
On Saturday, July 14th, in Hall H, beginning at 2:30 p.m., Warner Bros. Pictures will showcase a number of the releases upcoming from the Studio and its partners at Legendary Pictures, New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The special star-studded presentation also holds some surprises for the 6,500-plus fans in the convention’s largest presentation space.
The program highlights include a film that has already generated huge buzz: “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” directed by Peter Jackson, the Oscar(R)-winning filmmaker of the blockbuster “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Jackson, who just wrapped production in New Zealand, is embarking on his own journey halfway around the world to greet fans, who are already counting down to the December 14th opening of “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”
Joining Jackson on the stage will be Oscar(R)-winning screenwriter Philippa Boyens, along with several of the film’s stars, including Martin Freeman, who portrays the title character, Bilbo Baggins; Richard Armitage, who plays the fierce leader of the Dwarves, Thorin Oakenshield; the legendary Sir Ian McKellen, who returns as Gandalf; and fan favorite Andy Serkis, the extraordinary talent who is truly behind the character of Gollum. Attendees will also be invited to ask questions about the making of this epic adventure.
The presentation also includes the DC Comics superhero who, inarguably, started it all. Superman will be back on the big screen next Summer in the much-anticipated action adventure “Man of Steel.” Filmmaker Zack Snyder, the director behind “300” and “Watchmen,” will be at Comic-Con and will take questions from the audience about the making of “Man of Steel,” which opens on June 14, 2013.
Guillermo del Toro, the acclaimed writer/director of such films as “Pan’s Labyrinth” and the “Hellboy” films, will also be on hand with a preview of his science fiction action adventure, “Pacific Rim,” opening on July 12, 2013. The film’s stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman will join the director on stage for the presentation, which includes never-before-seen footage cut together exclusively for Comic-Con. Fans will also have an opportunity to engage in a Q & A with del Toro and his cast.
On the main convention floor, the Studio has created a must-see, 3,600-plus square-foot booth that demands repeated visits to capture it all. Located at Space #4545, the Warner Bros. booth is the place to be for autograph signings, photo ops and more, with stars and creators from some of the Studio’s upcoming feature films, as well as hit TV shows, interactive titles, award-winning animated properties and new Blu-ray(TM) & DVD releases.
The booth will showcase static displays of the “Man of Steel” Superman costume, and Batman’s amazing two-wheeled Bat-Pod, which was introduced in the 2008 record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight” and is featured again in this Summer’s most anticipated film, “The Dark Knight Rises.”
The multi-leveled Warner Bros. booth also features a dedicated area for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” featuring column and wall mountings of lenticular imagery from the film, as well as a scroll depicting the story.
