Texeira Adds Bite to Big Apple!
New York–This weekend, Pier 92 in Manhattan is going to be jam-packed with comics, gaming and animation fans, as the Big Apple Convention celebrates the merging with Wizard Entertainment and AND a new location. Artist Mark Texeira will be on hand to add some bite to the event, and celebrate his own first–the release of his new art book from Vanguard Productions!
Currently working on a much anticipated Punisher mini-series from Marvel, fine art painter and illustrator, Texeira is known for his work on “Ghost Rider,” “Moonknight,” “Black Panther,” “Hercules,” “Jonah Hex,” and far too many books to mention here. Mixed in with his love of sequential art, Mark’s old world style meshed with pop art has graced cover after cover for Marvel, DC Comics, Dark Horse, Dynamite Entertainment, Def Jam Records, and again, for too many clients to mention here.
That’s why Vanguard Productions has just released a definitive art book on the man to chronicle this amazing career and keep us all up to date! Entitled “Tex: The Art of Mark Texeira…The Artist’s Great Escape,” the lush 128 book is available in hardcover, softcover and a limited run of deluxe hardcovers (featuring 16 additional pages and slipcase). The book, authored by Renee Witterstaetter (with research by Patricia Snodgrass and Robin Dale), also features a partial bibliography of Mark’s work, to aid all those collectors out there shouting for more information.
Look for more Mark’s new book both at the Renee Witterstaetter/Eva Ink table next to Mark in artist alley and at the Vanguard Productions booth. In addition to this tome, Mark will also have prints and his new softcover sketchbook, “Babes and Brawn,” available while supplies last, while also doing commissions and signing at the event.
Eva Ink and Woodcrest Productions are also proud donors for charity auctions sponsored by Wizard/Big Apple this next weekend at their two parties scheduled to liven up Pier 92 even more!
Friday night will feature a performance by Naughty By Nature!
The Saturday Night party will feature a performance by Taylor Dayne! A live band, comedy show, costume contest, silent auction, and a charity auction on stage will also highlight the Saturday night event!
The Charities being featured are Comix 4 Sight–benefiting comics writer John Ostrander and his fight against Glaucoma, Snowball Express–which is the charity for the children of our fallen military heroes. (It started in 2006 with a simple idea: Provide hope and new memories to the children of our fallen military heroes who died while on active duty since September 11, 2001), and MoCCA–devoted to the preservation, study and display of comic and cartoon art.

He has become one of the most beloved figures in sports and was named to Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1972.
Dwight Gooden was one of the most dominant and feared pitchers in the National League during the 1980s. His penchant for striking out opposing batters quickly earned him the nickname “Dr. K”, which was later shortened to “Doc.” For his extraordinary achievements, Gooden went on to become the youngest-ever recipient of the Cy Young Award. Gooden and the New York Mets won the World Championship in 1986, defeating the Boston Red Sox. Goodwin went on to sign with their cross-town rivals, The New York Yankees in 1996.
