MA – From Pulp to the Golden Age of Superheroes

Writer Will Murray, co-creator of Squirrel Girl, appears on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Adams Academy.

Murray will discuss how the tales, heroes, and tropes of pulp magazines and comic books evolved into today’s “Golden Age of Superheroes,” the dominant entertainment genre in movies and television.

A 1971 North Quincy High graduate, Murray has authored scores of novels and short stories, featuring such classic pulp fiction stalwarts as Doc Savage, King Kong, Tarzan, and the Phantom. For Marvel Comics, he is the co-creator, with Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko, of Squirrel Girl, who is presently becoming one of Marvel’s most interesting characters and an important star in an upcoming TV series. As a journalist and pop-culture historian, Murray is a recognized authority on the pulp magazine era. He has reported for Starlog Magazine and in this capacity covered the sets of many major action movies from the 1980s through the early 2000s.

Open to the public. There is no admission charge.
