GraniteCon is pleased to announce legendary writer and co-creator of dozens of major characters including the Canucklehead himself, Wolverine, Len Wein!
Attending his first Granitecon this September (which will be the 50th anniversary of X-Men), Len has co-created a variety of big comic characters, including Swamp Thing, Nightcrawler, Storm, Colossus, Thunderbird, and Lucius Fox (amongst tons upon tons of other characters), as well as having written several episodes of hit TV shows like X-Men, Batman: TAS, Spider-Man, Ben 10, and Super Hero Squad! Len has also worked on virtually every major title for DC and Marvel in his career, with the latest having written the “Before Watchman: Ozymandias” mini series for DC!
We’re pleased to have Len added to our growing list of guests for this year’s show! To celebrate their 10 year anniversary Granitecon expands to a two day show next September 28-29th and moving into the much larger Expo Hall of the Manchester Radisson! Alan Moore and Mitch Jenkins appear at Gosh for a signing of Unearthing on Tuesday the 26th of February at 7:30 pm. They’ll also be screening their short film, Jimmy’s End and its prequel, Act of Faith. Details on those at their website.

The Baltimore Comic-Con is happy to announce the next group of confirmed guest for the 2013 show, taking place the weekend of September 7-8, 2013. Mark Buckingham, Dave Gibbons, Adam Hughes, Paul Levitz, George Perez, Walter Simonson, Louise Simonson, and Allison Sohn will all be attending our 14th Annual show !
Mark Buckingham, who is best-known and most-celebrated for his work on the long-running Vertigo title Fables, began his career in 1990 working with Neil Gaiman on Miracleman from Eclipse Comics. Working on such titles as 2000 AD, Hellblazer, and Shade, the Changing Man, he became a mainstay at DC Comics after taking over art duties on Fables with issue #6. His run on the popular imprint title has earned him four Eisner Awards, including Best New Series in 2003, Best Serialized Story in 2005 and 2006, and Best Artist/Penciler/Inker in 2007.
Legendary artist Dave Gibbons is best known for his collaboration with Alan Moore on the seminal mini-series,Watchmen. With a career that spans more than four decades, Gibbons has provided artowrk for 2000 AD, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Dark Horse Comics, and has worked with such characters as Judge Dredd, Captain America, Superman and Batman. He is currently working on The Secret Service with Mark Millar though Marvel’s Icon imprint.
As far as cover artists working in comics today, Adam Hughes is among the very best. A 12-year veteran of Gaijin Studios, Hughes is most widely recognized for his pin-up style renditions of female characters, especially over the course of his long runs as cover artist on Wonder Woman and Catwoman. His most recent work includes the Before Watchmen mini-series, Dr. Manhattan. Hughes won the Harvey Award for Best Cover Artist in 2001, 2002, and 2003.
Paul Levitz has been a mainstay at DCComics since 1972, serving as a writer, editor, and President (2002 – 2009) over the tenure of his career. His name is synonymous with the Legion of Super-Heroes, which he wrote from 1977-1979 and 1981-1989, and he created such notable characters as the Stalker, the Earth-2 Huntress, and Lucien the Librarian. Levitz has since returned to writing the Legion of Super-Heroes for the New 52, as well as the Earth-2 centric book, World’s Finest.
Writer/artist George Perez established himself as a fan-favorite creator during his lengthy runs on Marvel Comics’ Avengers, and DC Comics’ Teen Titans and Wonder Woman. Over the course of his 40-year career, Perez has drawn nearly every character in both the Marvel and DC Universes, and has worked on such ground breaking events as the Infinity Gauntlet, JLA/Avengers, and Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds. In 2011, he reunited with long-time collaborator Marv Wolfman to publish the long-awaited New Teen Titans: Games graphic novel. Currently, he is working as the artist for DC’s World’s Finest with Paul Levitz.
Walter Simonson is best known for his run on The Mighty Thor throughout the 1980s. His classic run was recently collected by Marvel in The Mighty Thor Omnibus by Walter Simonson, a massive tome which featured issues #337-355, #357-369, and #371-382, as well as the mini-series, Balder the Brave #1-4. In addition to his work on Thor, Simonson has worked on such titles as Detective Comics, Avengers, and Marvel’s Star Wars comics. In 2010, Simonson received the Hero Initiative Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented at the Harvey Awards.
Louise Simonson began her career in as an editor in 1974 before moving on to writing for Marvel Comics in 1984. She is best known for her work on Power Pack, X-Factor, New Mutants, and Superman: The Man of Steel. In addition to comics, Simonson is an accomplished novelist, having published 14 books between 1993 and 2009.
Sketch card artist Allison Sohn’s work has been showcased in several trading card sets, including: Star Wars Galaxy Series 4 and 5 and the Star Wars 30th Anniversary Collection; Women of Marvel; Indiana Jones Heritage; Lord of the Rings Masterpieces, Series 1 and 2; and the Red Sonja 35th Anniversary. In addition, she provided the exclusive artwork for both Star Wars Celebration IV and V. In 2011, Sohn was the feature of a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con International called Comic-Con How-To: Sketching with Allison Sohn, in which she demonstrated her craft using Copic markers.
“We are so excited to able to announce these great guests for next year’s show,” said Marc Nathan, show promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “It’s not even 2013 yet, and with Mark, Dave, Adam, Paul, George, Walter, Louise, and Allison joining the list of guests, the level of top-tier talent for the show is just getting better and better!”
Buckingham, Gibbons, Hughes, Levitz, Perez, the Simonsons and Sohn join already announced guests: Frank Cho (Savage Wolverine); Barry Kitson (Empire); Mike Mignola (Hellboy In Hell); Chris Samnee (Daredevil); and Mark Waid (Indestructible Hulk).

(March 29, 2012) – Revealing new details of the highly-anticipated summer release of the BEFORE WATCHMEN prequel mini-series comics, DC Entertainment will host a panel alongside a film screening of WATCHMEN at the annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on Saturday, April 21, at 1:00pm. The BEFORE WATCHMEN discussion will include DC Entertainment Co-Publishers and industry legends Jim Lee and Dan DiDio and will be moderated by comic expert Geoff Boucher, editor of the Los Angeles Times’ popular “Hero Complex” site.
The BEFORE WATCHMEN prequel titles will continue to build on the complex mythology of the best-selling WATCHMEN graphic novel and will be told through the words and images of some of the comic book industry’s most celebrated writers and artists. This Los Angeles Times Festival of Books panel – DC Entertainment Presents: Watchmen – It’s Not the End, It’s the Beginning – will provide insight into the upcoming releases of the seven BEFORE WATCHMEN titles.
“The frenzy surrounding BEFORE WATCHMEN mirrors what we saw preceding our recent DC Comics – The New 52 launch, and the level of interest in the talent line-up for the prequel titles has been spectacular” said DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio. “The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is a great opportunity for us to take a closer look at the WATCHMEN phenomenon, both in print and film, and talk about what fans can expect from the prequels.”
2012 marks the 17thLos Angeles Times Festival of Books, the largest and most prestigious public literary event in the country. Located at the University of Southern California campus, the two-day event celebrates the written word in all its forms and is expected to draw more than 150,000 attendees.
The DC Entertainment programs will take place at the USC School for Cinematic Arts on Saturday, April 21, beginning at 1:00pm. The event schedule includes:

Splash Page will host the following artists at our booth: Edgar Salazar, artist of Red Sonja, John Higgins, colorist of The Watchmen, and Brad Walker, artist of Guardians of the Galaxy and Heroes for Hire. Edgar Salazar and Brad Walker will also be taking on a limited number of convention commissions.
To celebrate 25 years of Watchmen – the only graphic novel included in Time Magazine’s “All-TIME 100 Greatest Novels” list – original Watchmen team member John Higgins has created a brand-new limited-edition Watchmen portfolio exclusively for San Diego Comic-Con 2011.
The new portfolio comes in two flavors, each containing a set of three individual prints of fan-favorite characters Sally Jupiter, Rorschach, and The Comedian, each richly-detailed image penciled, inked and colored by John Higgins.
Set A: Limited to 80 copies.
The A3-sized prints (11.7″ x 16.5″) are colored in Turmoil Colour Studios’ modern color style and printed on Tintoretto Gesso 250gsm paper using the latest computer-controlled technology for a high-quality print run. All prints signed and numbered by John Higgins.
Available only at SDCC 2011 at the special price of $90 per set.
Set B: Limited to 20 copies.
Containing three A3 (11.7″ x 16.5″)silk-screened prints on perfect Velin Arches Blanc 250gsm paper, with hand-separated color by John in the style of the classic Watchmen coloring.
