Washington DC Comicon (May 2) partners with Hero Initiative for JG Jones exclusive and FREE admission!

The DC Comicon is proud to be working with the Hero Initiative to bring a JG Jones exclusive Witchblade #136 cover to the public, featuring our nation’s capital on the cover, as Witchblade visits the Cherry Blossom Festival!

Copies are only $5 each, and will be on sale at the Hero Initiative Booth at the show. $1 from every sale will be donated to the Hero Initiative.

In addition, anyone that brings their Hero Initiative membership card to the show gets in for FREE, and anyone who registers to be a member at the show will get their admission price refunded!

DC Comic-Con Inaugural Event Announcement

Washington, DC – April 15, 2010 – Marc Nathan, promoter of the Baltimore comic-Con, and Brett Carreras, promoter of the VA Comicon, are proud to jointly announce the inaugural DC Comic-Con. The show will be held on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010 (the day after Free Comic Book Day) from 10am-5pm in the Student Union Building II (SUB II) at George Mason University (GMU) in Fairfax, VA.

Admission to the show is only $5! GMU students, faculty, and staff get in free! All active military personnel with current military IDs get in free! Plus for the first time ever, get in FREE if you bring your Hero Initiative Membership card, or if you pay the admission, and sign up for Hero Initiative membership at the show, we will refund your admission price!

The show will feature an amazing guest list for an inaugural show, a show exclusive comic, a full room of brick-and-mortar retailers bringing Golden Age, Silver Age, and modern comics inventories, manga and anime products, and toys! There will also be a sanctioned Magic the Gathering tournament!

This exclusive comic will be available in very limited quantities at the Hero Initiative booth, and is selling for only $5, of which $1 goes to the Hero Initiative.

Additionally, the first 500 attendees will receive a copy of the Overstreet Guide to Collecting Comics, Gemstone’s 2010 Free Comic Book Day publication.

Sanctioned Magic the Gathering Tournament
A special Magic the Gathering — Rise of the Eldrazi tournament with a massive prize pool will be held at the show. Come out to the Iron Man 2 table dressed as your favorite comic book character to enter-to-win Iron Man 2 prizes. The person with the best costume will win reserve seats at the advance screening of the film in DC! Best Costume will be picked from all entries at 3pm, so enter early!

The first ever Washington D.C. Comicon Sells Out!

“We simply couldn’t believe the response when we announced this event! We instantly sold out of vendor tables!” says Baltimore Comicon founder Marc Nathan. “I honestly think it is a show that is necessary in the nation’s capital.” emphasizes Brett Carreras, the promoter of the VA Comicon.

In a unique partnership, the Baltimore Comicon and the VA Comicon have united to bring a show to the Washington, DC area that fans have been asking for…well…Forever!

Brought about by a love of our great country, as well as a genuine desire to be advocates for the comics industry, Nathan and Carreras are working with the area’s top retailers and vintage comic vendors to extend the fun of Free Comic Book Day beyond just Saturday, and will be hosting the first ever Washington, D.C. Comicon the day after Free Comic Book Day on the George Mason University (Fairfax) campus.

“We have a great event lined up!” says Nathan, who’s Reisterstown, MD store Cards Comics and Collectibles will be sponsoring the D.C. appearance of Frank Cho (Liberty Meadows). In addition, Laughing Ogre Comics in Fairfax, VA will be hosting the D.C. Comicon’s appearance of famed illustrator Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night).
