Comics creator Jeff Lemire appears at Comics and More on SATURDAY, APRIL 26 from noon till 3:00 pm! He will be on hand to sign copies of the first issue of JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED, featuring a new Canadian version of the Justice League and the first appearance of the brand-new, teenage, Cree superhero EQUINOX!
Lemire says on his blog, “This will be my only Toronto-area signing for the comic. I will be signing and giving away 5 limited edition blank variant covers with sketches of Justice League characters by me! Copies of all of other books will be for sale, but stock is limited. I will also have original art form Trillium, Animal Man and Sweet Tooth available.”

SVA Presents: STRONG FEMALE PROTAGONISTS: A Panel Discussion Featuring Women in Comics

This event brings together a diverse group of internationally recognized creators and editors for a discussion of the history and dynamics of women working in American comics. Panelists include women creators and editors of different generations including Raina Telgemeier, creator of Smile and Drama; Diane Noomin, creator of Glitz-2-Go and editor of the Twisted Sisters anthologies; Shelly Bond, Executive Editor of Vertigo comics; Alitha Martinez, a penciller and inker who has worked on Marvel’s Iron Man, X-Men, Black Son, Fantastic Four, and the Black Panther and currently WWE Superstars for Papercutz. They will discuss the role of women in comic narratives, career advice, and personal history, followed by Q&A.

The Cartoon Art Museum welcomes acclaimed artist J.H. Williams III for its ongoing celebration of the 25th anniversary of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. This special presentation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Williams will talk about his process on Sandman: Overture and will discuss his experiences working on this historic book, as well as giving us a glimpse into the future. Original artwork from the first two issues of Sandman: Overture will be on display as the Cartoon Art Museum approaches the finale of its Sandman retrospective Grains of Sand, which will be held over through April 27, 2014.
A limited number of VIP tickets are available for a pre-event dinner with JH Williams III. VIPs will get priority seating at the Cartoon Art Museum presentation, front-of-line privileges at the post-presentation booksigning, and a Sandman sketch from JH on the book or item of their choosing. This option is limited to six guests and is available for $200. (Time and location to be determined; guests will pay for their own meals.)

A panel discussion featuring comics all-stars Scott Snyder (American Vampire, The Wake, Batman), Sean Murphy (American Vampire, The Wake, Punk Rock Jesus), Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire, Uncanny X-Force), MFA Visual Narrative Chair Nathan Fox (Dogs of War, DMZ) and Mark Doyle, editor at DC Comics/Vertigo. The panelists talk about their careers, creative process and collaborations, as well as what inspires and informs their approach to telling tales of horror in the realm of graphic novels and sequential art. Artist Brendan McCarthy has worked for the 2000 AD, Crisis, and Revolver. For Crisis, he drew the highly controversial Skin, also created with and written by Peter Milligan. He has worked as designer on the films Highlander, the first live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, Lost In Space, and The Borrowers. His designs also feature in the forthcoming Max Max: Fury Road.
