So, Free Comic Book Day is over, but FREE COMIC BOOK MAY continues. Below you will find information on how to take advantage of the amazing FREE COMICS giveaways we are doing every Saturday in May, as well as our crazy Events for this week. Please make sure to participate in all of these events, you will be glad you did.

First, about the FREE COMIC BOOK MAY Promotion. If you stopped by on Free Comic Book Day this past Saturday, you received a Stamp Card, with 4 places to get a stamp. The first week should have been pre-stamped. If you did not get a card, or could not stop by on Saturday, pick one up anytime this week. Deadline is Friday night. IF you do not get one, you can not participate in Free Comic Book May promotion and trust me, when that Free Graphic Novel Day comes around, you will want to be part of that. You need to have all 3 stamps stamped on your card in order to get a FREE GRAPHIC NOVEL on May 26th, the fourth Saturday of the month .

We also have two awesome Signing Events this week.

First event is our two signings for SAM HUMPHRIES DAY. Sam is an awesome dude and a great friend of the store, and on this Wednesday, his new creator-owned book, Higher Earth (which is fantastic, and the first issue is $1.00) comes out, as well as his first issue of The Ultimates, which he is co-writing with Jonathan Hickman. In addition to that, We have copies of this incredible John Carter : Gods of Mars #1 with Ramon Perez (the artist of Tales of Sand) as well as $1.00 copies of Fanboys vs. Zombies #1. We also will have in stock Our Love is Real, a super controversial one shot that started Sam’s career in a huge way, as well as first 3 issues of Sacrifice, his indie series that made him a star, including our EXCLUSIVE Variant. We’ll have signings in Pasadena from noon to 3pm, and in the Valley from 5-8pm.

The other event we have this week is going to be HUGE. Join us on Saturday, May 12th, from 6pm to 9pm, as we celebrate the release of a truly SPECIAL Graphic Novel / Art Project, DAMES IN THE ATOMIC AGE, with creator/writer Christopher Ryder, as well as all of the artists involved in this awesome project, including:

The So Cal Comic Con is proud to announce that the Guest of Honor for the 2nd show will be none other than fan-favorite artist and creator J. Scott Campbell! A previous resident of San Diego while working at Wildstorm Productions, Campbell is known throughout the world for his artistic rendering of attractive women and dynamic pencilling on titles such as Gen 13, his creator owned titles Danger Girl and Wildsiderz, and his stunning covers for Amazing Spider-Man and other popular Marvel Comics titles.In addition to Mr. Campbell, the So Cal Comic Con is also hosting comic creators such as Keu Cha (Hex), the Garage Art Studios team (Tony Fleecs, Chris Moreno, Tone Rodriguez, and Mark dos Santos), penciller Joel Gomez (Flashpoint: Reverse Flash), local artist David Miller, and inker Joe Weems. Blogger Michael Hamersky (ComicBookCollectorsBlog.com) will be broadcasting LIVE from the event! Comic books can be autographed and receive the prestigious CGC Signature Series label designation for any guest at our show.

Admission to the show is only $5, or $4 with a flyer from your local Southern California comic book shop. Kids 13 and under get in free with a paid adult admission. Buy your tickets at the door. CANOGA PARK, Calif., April 11, 2010 – Collector’s Paradise Comics & Gallery, San Fernando Valley’s Premiere pop culture store, is excited to announce this year’s big Celebration for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, featuring some of the best talent in comics, charity fundraiser event, and many great giveaways for all attendees.
 
Collector’s Paradise has a long history of working closely with comic book industry creators. The store holds monthly events with artists and writers from all corners of the industry, and the full time gallery hosts art events and gallery shows.  “Our goal is to be more than just a comic book store. There are many comic book stores in our city. We want to stand out, to become a Destination where one can interact with the people that produce the books.”, says Edward Greenberg, the owner of Collector’s Paradise.  Comic book industry has been very supportive of Collector’s Paradise’ efforts in this endeavor, working with them to organize numerous events to promote their new releases and special projects.

In addition to the great creator line up, the event will feature the annual “Sketches for HERO Initiative” fundraiser, where all of the artists featured will do $10 sketches for the fans, with 100% of the proceeds directly going to HERO Initiative, a fantastic charity that helps comic book creators in need.  Collector’s Paradise has been working with HERO for the last five years to make sure that those creators who need financial and medical help are taken care of.
 
Kids are a big focus of Collector’s Paradise’ effort on FCBD.  The event will feature costumed characters for the kids to take photographs with, as well as several thousand kid-friendly comic books given away to all fans in attendance. 
 
For the first time at our FCBD Event, a famous Korean / Latin fusion Food Truck, CALBI, will be parked at our event from 11am to 3pm, selling their delicious fusion tacos and burritos to event attendees.
 
The event will be held at Collector’s Paradise Comics & Cards from Noon to 7:00pm, with creator signings and character appearances from noon to 3:00pm.

LOS ANGELES, CA: WonderCon celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2011 as one of the country’s best comics and popular arts events on the West Coast! Hero Initiative, the non-profit organization that supports comic creators in financial need, will be there celebrating with the crowd at the Moscone Center South in San Francisco, Friday April 1 through Sunday April 3.

Last December, a Pictionary tournament was auctioned off  to support the Pasadena Child Development Associates for children with developmental disabilities.  This Wednesday night, the moment of truth arrives!   Participants include Tone Rodriguez (Mayhem), Chris Moreno (Toy Story), Tony Fleecs (Johnny Wadd), Eric Basaldua (Top Cow artist) and Richard Starkings (Elephantmen).  The artists will be facing off against stand-up comedians, so expect many shenanigans!  Audience participation is encouraged.

In addition, pioneer comic creator Richard Starkings’s ELEPHANTMEN: FATAL DISEASES will be making it’s trade paperback WORLD PREMIERE.
