Long Beach Comic Con 2013 Con Report!

On November 23-24th, 2013, the Long Beach Convention Center was home to the 5th annual Long Beach Comic and Horror Con! Usually held around Halloween, this show was pushed back to late November, making this one of the final comic cons of 2013! In addition to the date change, they also got rid of the Friday evening show and I believe it was the right call. Saturday was booming, with lines going out the door and a steady flow of patrons all day long! Sunday slowed down quite a bit and while still a lot of foot traffic, not enough spending.

With the usual talent of comic creators attending Long Beach, including mainstays of LBCC Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Whilce Portacio, Tim Bradstreet, and Todd Nauck, joined by special guests Gene Ha, Carlos D’Anda, Marc Silvestri, Mark Texeira, Art Thibert, Andrew Robinson, Mark Waid, and several other awesome comic talent, LBCC did close out the 2013 con year nicely.

While Comic Cons seem to be growing every year, it seems harder and harder for each show to bring something new. I did love the fact that there was an awesome car display in the front of some of the most famous cars in pop culture, along with a lot of retailers in prominent display at the show. One thing also appreciated was that comics were far more emphasized than pop culture stars, and that’s one thing I always do appreciate at LBCC. Hopefully next year, they’ll bring over the bigger hitters in comics to really close the year with a bang. Star power does draw more crowds, and I for one would love to see LBCC thrive and succeed for the next 5 years and beyond. And now, onto some photos!

Las Vegas Comic Expo Relocates to the Riviera

Las Vegas Comic Expo, previously announced to be held at the Alexis Park All Suite Resort, will be relocating to a new venue, the Riviera Hotel and Casino, directly located on the Las Vegas Strip!!!

Due to the flash floods from the recent rain storms, the original hotel and halls located at the Alexis Park Resort were damaged beyond immediate repair to house Las Vegas Comic Expo. Drywall, carpet and a lack of power proved too much to repair in such a short window, thus making the shift to the Riviera necessary.

We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused any of our guests, vendors and attendees. But oddly enough this unfortunate circumstance actually has led to an expansion for the show with a larger convention hall and plenty of space for attendees to browse and shop. The new location at the Riviera will be able to showcase and accommodate the entire guest list of over 50 of the top names in comics and entertainment all united with the exhibitors and artist alley in one grand exhibit hall. The gaming, panels and programs will be conveniently located adjacent to the main hall as well.

The dates of the convention hours remain the same for Las Vegas Comic Expo: Saturday, September 29 (10AM to 7PM) and Sunday, September 30 (10AM to 5PM).

All tickets previously issued will be honored and redirected to Las Vegas Comic Expo at the Riviera. Tickets are still available for sale in advance as well as at the door on the days of the event.

Located on the Las Vegas Strip, The Riviera Hotel and Casino is just a quick cab or shuttle ride from McCarran International Airport (LAS) and only minutes away from downtown Las Vegas and the Fremont Street Experience.

The hotel offers guests amenities of many dining options including a buffet, food court and steakhouse as well as the Oasis Pool, a barber shop, beauty salon, tattoo parlor (What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas), gaming casino and other forms of entertainment and conveniences. The hotel has ample free public parking, and is also a short walk to the public monorail system.

The Riviera is located at 2901 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89109.

Thomas Jane Gets RAW at Dallas Comic Con 2011

RAW Thomas Jane

Press Release:

Thomas Jane gets RAW at Dallas Comic Con, this May 21-22

For the past two years actor Thomas Jane has turned in an amazing performance on the hit HBO series HUNG, in which he stars as an average guy doing whatever he can to get a leg up… or, uh, something like that. Tom’s acting has been so appreciated, he’s received two back-to-back Golden Globe nominations, and a third season is on the way. Regardless of whether you’ve seen the show, chances are you’ll recognize Jane from one of his many memorable roles through the years, including his breakout scenes in BOOGIE NIGHTS, the Renny Harlin shark thriller DEEP BLUE SEA, his terrific interpretation of Mickey Mantle in 61*, Cameron Diaz’s love interest in the sexy comedy THE SWEETEST THING, the daring and difficult true story of STANDER, his comic book adaptation of “Frank Castle” in THE PUNISHER, the controversial leading man in Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Stephen King’s THE MIST, and so much more. You many have also chuckled during his memorable cameo in SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD… I know I did.

In 2005, Tom made his first appearance at the Dallas Comic Con, where he debuted the very first concept art for his comic book project BAD PLANET in the show program book. Since then he’s released multiple comic projects through his RAW Studios imprint, a company he’s formed with business partner and accomplished creator Tim Bradstreet. Series like BAD PLANET and ALIEN PIG FARM 3000 (written by DRIVE ANGRY 3D screenwriter Todd Farmer) have wowed fans and critics with fun throwback-style stories and artwork by some of the best artists in the business. Jane is currently working with acclaimed writer Bruce Jones to revive the ALIEN WORLDS and TWISTED TALES comic books, and has already written, directed and starred in his own movie, DARK COUNTRY. But you don’t have to just read about the actor’s exploits, you could actually meet him and his creative partners in person at the upcoming Dallas Comic Con this May 21-22. Thomas Jane, Tim Bradstreet, Todd Farmer and Bruce Jones will all be in attendance, along with RAW collaborators Steve Niles and Bernie Wrightson. The RAW booth rarely makes a full appearance at any show outside of San Diego Comic-Con and the Long Beach Comic Con, but they’ll be out in full force at the popular Texas-based event, signing autographs and meeting fans. Tom is currently scheduled to do a scheduled signing on both Saturday and Sunday during the show, and will be making frequent appearances at the booth.

This is a rare opportunity to meet one of the coolest creative teams in the industry, and if you haven’t seen the guest list for the show, you’ll realize this is just the icing on an already delicious cake. You can find out more information on the Dallas Comic Con (held May 21-22) at http://dallascomiccon.com – or on their Facebook page at http://facebook.com/dallas.comiccon.
