Long Beach Comic Expo 2018 has announced their programming schedule for next weekend’s convention on February 17-18th! Highlights include a spotlight on Don McGregor, Strangers Things’ Joe Keery, a trivia showdown with Mark Waid, animation legend Andrea Romano, and an examination of the Black Panther’s big screen debut.

Anti-harassment has become a hot topic within the geek community over the last several years. Whether it is anti-harassment policies or grassroots awareness (such as Cosplay Is Not Consent), more and more geeks are looking for ways to make the geek community a better place to everyone. King of the Jungle: Don McGregor Spotlight

Acclaimed writer Don McGregor, whose groundbreaking work on Black Panther including titles such as JUNGLE ACTION lead to him be one of the inspirations for the current hit Marvel movie. McGregor makes a rare West Coast appearance as LBCE’s first ever Guest of Honor. This spotlight panel explores more than just his Panther work, including SABRE (one of the first-ever graphic novels), RAGAMUFFINS, DETECTIVES, INC., ZORRO, JAMES BOND, and NATHANIEL DUSK!

Fanbase Press Presents: The Impact of Latinx Creators and Readers on Comics

QUINCE is a 15-issue comics series (being released in English and Spanish) about a teenager who discovers she has superpowers at her quinceañera. COMADRES Y COMICS is a podcast hosted by three Latina women hoping to highlight the role that Latinos have in the comic book industry as creators, consumers, and fans. Join QUINCE creator Sebastian Kadlecik and COMADRES Y COMICS hosts Kristen Parraz, Sara Bazan, and Jennifer Lopez; and journalist/creator Jennifer de Guzman for a discussion and Q&A session moderated by Barbra Dillon (Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief).

Working across a wide variety of mediums, Tori uses YouTube and Instagram to share her work and the joy her art-school education has brought her. Discover this unique talent in Tori’s first Long Beach appearance.

A look at the “sword and sandal” genre of stories (once called “peplums”) that was a huge part of popular culture in the 1950s and ’60s – inspired by Ancient Greek and Roman mythologies – and has been reinvigorated in the modern day by the addition of sorcery and other-worldly settings. Fanbase Press Editorials Manager Michele Brittany is joined by creators and experts to discuss the history of the genre and explore its legacy in stories that entertain comic book readers today.

She’s mom, dad, referee and the cops. Sam also watches out for her mother, Phil (Celia Imrie), an English expatriate who lives across the street. Sam is flawed and fierce with her love for her daughters, and her own mother as well, sometimes heaping the love on when she feels guilty. Sam’s just trying to earn a living, navigate her daughters’ lives, have fun with a friend or two and also — just maybe — squeeze in some private time once in awhile.

Batman Beyond’s Will Friedle Appears at Terrificon 2017

Terrificon welcomes actor and voice over talent (plus a fellow Connecticut native)
Will Friedle from Batman Beyond and Boy Meets World to Mohegan Sun on August 18-20, 2017!

Will Friedle is an actor best known for his comedic roles, most notably as underachieving elder brother Eric Matthews on the long-running TV sitcom Boy Meets World from 1993 to 2000. As the show was drawing to a close Will segued into voice acting, which has given him an opportunity to slip in and out of numerous superhero roles, including the now iconic role of Terry McGinnis/Batman in Batman Beyond.

Will can also be heard as Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Nightwing in Justice League Unlimited: Animal Instincts and Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem; and Deadpool in Ultimate Spider-Man. To a generation of Disney fans, however, he’ll always be the beloved Ron Stoppable, sidekick to the brave Kim Possible. Will was also Lion-O in the rebooted ThunderCats animated series, Doyle in The Secret Saturdays; and Bumblebee in Transformers: Prime, Transformers Prime Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising and Transformers: Robots in Disguise.

In 2015, Will made a triumphant return to the role of (now Senator) Eric Matthews in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World. He is also Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy animated series.

Gabe Eltaeb’s 4th Annual Comic Kickoff Fundraiser

Head to Gabe Eltaeb’s Fourth Annual Comic Kickoff Fundraiser and Party at Basic Bar and Pizza located in downtown San Diego on Wednesday July 19, 2017 from 9:00 PM – 1:00 AM! Entry is free, but a donation is suggested.

Celebrate the beginning of Comic Con on Preview Night just a few blocks from the San Diego Convention Center. Enjoy Pizza, drinks, music, and a chance to meet comic book professionals including Todd Nauck, Carlos D’Anda, Eddie Nunez, and Jim Calafiore plus other passionate pop culture fans.

This this event features the opportunity to meet and greet some great comic book artists and buy one of a kind sketches. Additionally we will have unique items from Blizzard, Funko, and Dark Horse Comics that you can enter to win.

All proceeds go to the Hero Initiative, the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Hero creates a financial safety net for yesterdays’ creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. Square Enix, Blizzard & Wizards of the Coast at MomoCon 2017

Square Enix, Blizzard and Wizards of the Coast will be among the companies at MomoCon, the convention with the largest gaming floor in the Southeastern United States. The annual event, which is expecting more than 30,000 attendees for its thirteenth year, will take place Thursday, May 25 – Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Square Enix senior game designer Takatsugu Nakazawa, who has worked on Final Fantasy since the franchise’s seventh installment and through Final Fantasy XV, along with Global Brand Manager Raio Mitsuno, will deliver the keynote address at MomoCon. Final Fantasy composer Naoshi Mizuta will be featured in a live Final Fantasy orchestral performance on Sunday.

Blizzard will host a panel celebrating Overwatch’s one year anniversary featuring visual effects artist Rachel Day and community manager Josh Engen. An Overwatch voice actors panel will feature Charlet Chung (D. Va), Matthew Mercer (McCree), Jonny Cruz (Lucio) and Fred Tatasciore (Soldier 76), with lead writer Michael Chu moderating.

Wizards of the Coast will host two panels. The first will focus on inclusivity in Magic through story, art, and the ways that fiction and games can impact real life. The second will discuss the story of Amonkhet, the Gatewatch and what’s next for the Multiverse of Magic: The Gathering.

HTC will offer hands-on demos of the Vive. Blue Mammoth Games will showcase their upcoming platform fighter Brawlhalla. The 20 finalists from the MomoCon Indie Game Awards will also be on display, in addition to 14 other game developers exhibiting at the show.

More than 70 special guests will attend the convention including the Co-Optional Podcast, Marisha Ray and Taliesin Jaffe of Critical Role and Machinima.

Over 190,000 sq ft of space will be dedicated to games during all four days of MomoCon. Four-day and single-day badges are available on the MomoCon registration page. Gamers unable to attend MomoCon can watch panels live on Twitch via MomoCon TV.
