The Cartoon Art Museum welcomes back Tom Tomorrow, award winning creator of This Modern World, for his first Bay Area appearance in eight years as he discusses 25 years of alt-weekly cartooning, adventures in animation and collaborations with rock stars. This presentation takes place on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. General admission for this event is $5, and free for Cartoon Art Museum members.
A special guest appearance by one of San Francisco’s legendary Doggie Diner heads is also in the works for this unforgettable evening. Stay tuned to our website for details.
ABOUT TOM TOMORROW:
Tom Tomorrow (Dan Perkins) lives outside of New Haven, Connecticut with his wife and son. His weekly cartoon, This Modern World, appears in approximately 80 papers across the country, including the Village Voice, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, and online at sites such as TheNation.com and DailyKos.com. His cartoons have also been featured in New York Times, The New Yorker, The Nation, U.S. News & World Report, Esquire, The Economist, and numerous other publications.
In April 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Herblock Prize.
He is also a recipient of the first place Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for Cartooning in 1998 and again in 2003. He has also been awarded the first place Media Alliance Meritorious Achievement Award for Excellence in Journalism, the first place Society of Professional Journalists’ James Madison Freedom of Information Award, the James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism, and the Association for Education in Journalism Professional Freedom and Responsiblity Award.
He is the author of ten cartoon anthologies and one children’s book, and in 2009 collaborated with the band Pearl Jam to create the artwork for their album, Backspacer. Most recently, he contributed an introduction to the 21st volume of Fantagraphics’ Complete Peanuts series.

He is the creator of the weekly political cartoon, This Modern World, which appears in approximately 80 newspapers across the U.S., and on websites such as Daily Kos and The Nation. His work has appeared in publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Spin, Mother Jones, Esquire, The Economist, and U.S. News and World Report. He is the 2013 recipient of the Herblock Prize for excellence in editorial cartooning, and a two-time recipient of the RFK Award for Journalism.
