NYC – Dark Knight III Signing

Frank Miller, Brian Azzarello, Andy Kubert, and Klaus Janson appear at Barnes & Noble in Union Square on Saturday September 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM to sign Dark Knight III: The Master Race from DC Comics.

Press Release:

In celebration of Batman Day, BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT: MASTER RACE co-writers Frank Miller (SUPERMAN: YEAR ONE) and Brian Azzarello (100 BULLETS), along with artists Andy Kubert (NEW CHALLENGERS) and Klaus Janson (SUPERMAN), will be participating in a fan Q&A and signing at Barnes & Noble at Union Square on September 23.

Available September 13, BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT: MASTER RACE is a special, hardcover collected edition of the series that continued Frank Miller’s landmark DARK KNIGHT SAGA. BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT: MASTER RACE captures a world after the toppling of Lex Luthor and the apparent death of Batman himself. Who is left to save Gotham City and the rest of the world against the Master Race?

In celebration of Harley Quinn’s 25th Anniversary, this year the clown princess of crime is taking over DC’s annual Batman Day celebration. Co-created by acclaimed producers Paul Dini (DARK NIGHT: A TRUE BATMAN STORY) and Bruce Timm (Batman Beyond), Harley Quinn first appeared on the hit Batman: The Animated Series in a September 1992 episode, “The Joker’s Favor.” Following her TV debut, Harley Quinn spawned the now popular comic series and is one of the fastest growing characters in DC history.

A purchase of BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT: MASTER RACE is required to attend the signing and fans may bring two additional items from home for the team to sign. Wristbands for the signing will be given out on a first come, first serve basis, starting at 9 a.m. on September 23.

Press Release:

You won’t want to miss the 2017 Baltimore Comic-Con, taking place September 22-24 at the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center. The Baltimore Comic-Con is pleased announce the addition of Frank Miller for a Friday-only appearance at our 2017 event.

Frank Miller is a comic book writer and artist, a screenwriter, a film director, and a movie producer. Originally from just down the street in Olney, MD, Frank was raised in Montpelier, VT, and eventually found his way to New York City and the comic book industry in the late 1970s.

Finding work in Gold Key Comics initially, he went on to work with DC and Marvel. At the latter, after recurring fill-in and cover artist gigs, he took over art and, eventually, writing duties on Daredevil. He co-plotted the Wolverine limited series with Chris Claremont, and would continue working on titles (his own and those of the companies for which he worked) including Sin City, Ronin, Daredevil: Born Again, Elektra Lives Again, The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City, and 300. In addition to his comic book work, Miller wrote the scripts for Robocop 2 and 3, directed the film version of The Spirit, shared directing duties with Robert Rodriguez on the Palme d’Or-nominated Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and produced the film 300. Eagle-eyed viewers can spot him in cameo roles in Robocop 2, Daredevil, Sin City, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and The Spirit. Miller is known for creating Elektra for Marvel Comics’ Daredevil series, and a female version of the Robin character, Carrie Kelley, for DC Comics.

Miller will be appearing on Friday only, and a limited number of tickets are available for fan interaction during his appearance. To purchase tickets to the Baltimore Comic-Con and the Frank Miller events specifically, please see our tickets webpage.

In 1978, Eisner once again reinvented himself- and the comic art medium-with his graphic novel, A CONTRACT WITH GOD.Will Eisner’s 19 graphic novels and 3 textbooks are still in print in 15 worldwide languages. The prestigious Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards are presented annually at San Diego Comic-Con.

NYC – The Spirit of Innovation Panel

Comments Off on NYC – The Spirit of Innovation Panel

spiritPress Release:

John Cassaday, Michael Cho, Charles Kochman, and Paul Pope, consider the dynamic life, legacy and influence of Will Eisner at Society of Illustrators in New York City on the panel, The Spirit of Innovation: The Enduring Influence of Will Eisner’s The Spirit. Commemorating the 75th anniversary of The Spirit during Will Eisner Week, this panel is a collaboration between the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and Comic-Con International. The event starts on Wednesday March 7th at 7:00 PM at the Society of Illustrators, located at 128 East 63rd Street at Lexington Ave, in New York City. Admission is $10 for CBLDF, Comic-Con International 2014 attendees (bring your badge), and Society of Illustrators Members, $15 for non-members, and $7 for students and seniors with valid ID.

Will Eisner’s The Spirit
In 1940, Will Eisner wasn’t the only 23-year-old innovating the early comics medium, but he was arguably the most audacious. With war on the horizon, he left the security and success of his work as creative director of the Eisner & Iger packaging studio to create The Spirit, a newspaper comic book supplement that allowed him a wide berth of creative freedom, the ability to speak to an adult audience, and the opportunity to own his own work. 75 years later, The Spirit remains a vital, influential, and engaging work of comics. Join contemporary practitioners for a lively discussion of Will Eisner’s first masterwork and its effect on modern comics.

This panel is a new endeavor that continues the ongoing education collaboration between Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and Comic-Con International, who are co-producing the program. “Events of this sort highlight comics’ vital contribution to culture,” says CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein. “Honoring the medium’s history while encouraging its future are central educational goals for both organizations. It’s an honor to launch this next phase in our partnership with an event that celebrates the vision and contributions of Will Eisner and those he inspired.”

Tickets for this event are available now from the Society of Illustrators online at here…
