Press Release:

The legendary Jim Steranko will be the Guest of Honor at the upcoming Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention, taking place at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center from Friday, April 21 through Sunday, April 23, 2017. Steranko is a legend not only in the comics field – for his groundbreaking work as an artist and a historian – but in the pulp field as well, with his depictions of several classic pulp heroes, from The Shadow to Doc Savage to Sherlock Holmes to G-8 and many more. Steranko will be present throughout the show, and will also be speaking Friday night at 7:00 p.m. As this year’s show is the same weekend as C2E2 (also in the Chicagoland area), C2E2 attendees may want to head to Lombard to complete their weekend.

This year’s event also celebrates the Red Circle line of pulps. These were the first publications put out by Martin Goodman, who later would launch the Timely line of comics that eventually became Marvel. The program book is packed with material on Steranko, the Red Circle line, gangster pulps, and more!

The convention also features over 150 tables of pulps, vintage paperbacks, comics, original comic and illustration art, and other related goodies for sale in its massive dealer room. Movies based on pulp stories will be playing throughout the day on Friday and Saturday, while the New Pulp movement will host a variety of panels on Sunday. And Friday and Saturday nights will feature two incredible estate auctions, featuring thousands of pulps, including nearly 200 issues of The Shadow, as well as many other rare pulps.

Admission is $35 for all three days, $25 for Friday only, $25 for Saturday only, and $10 for Sunday only. Ages 13 and under admitted free with parent.

Hours are Friday 11:00 a.m. to midnight, Saturday 10:00 a.m. to midnight and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The convention is being held at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center, 70 Yorktown Center, Lombard IL 60148.

NJ – Alec Baldwin Signing

Alec Baldwin appears at Bookends on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 6:00 PM to sign his new memoir Nevertheless.

In this candid, fearless memoir, Baldwin transcends his public persona, revealing facets of his life he has long kept private. He introduces readers to the Long Island child who felt burdened by his family’s financial strains and his parents’ unhappy marriage; the Washington, DC, college student preparing for a career in politics; the self-named “Love Taxi” who helped friends solve their romantic problems while neglecting his own; the young soap actor learning from giants of the theatre; the addict who struggles with sobriety; the husband and father who acknowledges his failings and battles to overcome them; and the consummate professional for whom the work is everything.

Alec Baldwin won two Emmys, three Golden Globes, and seven Screen Actors Guild Awards for his portrayal of NBC president Jack Donaghy on the sitcom 30 Rock. His list of film credits includes roles in Beetlejuice, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Departed, and The Cooler, for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Baldwin recently garnered praise for a certain Presidential impersonation on Saturday Night Live, which he has hosted 16 times. Nevertheless travels behind the public persona to lay bare the facts of his difficult childhood, romantic and familial struggles, and fights against addiction to reveal the fearlessness and drive that have defined his life.

Press Release:

The San Diego Comic Art Gallery (SDCAG) is proud to announce the Comic Book Art of Star Wars exhibition, which will run from November 21st through January 31st, 2016. The exhibit will feature 30 pieces of rare Star Wars original art from the very first comic book series that was released by Marvel Comics in 1977.

The majority of these originals are from the first six issues, which adapted the blockbuster George Lucas film. Included in this landmark display are many key and historically significant pages.

Most art featured in this stunning exhibition are by renowned comic artist Howard Chaykin, who will be on hand at the SDCAG on Saturday, November 21st from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, signing copies of the Star Wars Artifact Edition. This Artifact Edition is a 12″ x 17” oversized hardcover art book and features an incredible selection of Star Wars pages. Each page of the Star Wars Artifact Edition is scanned from the actual original art and printed same size as the physical art boards.
