CA – The Last Unicorn Screening

lastunicornPeter S. Beagle appears at the Frida Cinema on Monday January 12, 2015 at 7:00 PM!

    Press Release:

The Frida Cinema is proud to present THE LAST UNICORN – with an appearance from the film’s author and screenwriter, Peter S. Beagle!

Except for a handful of film festival and special appearances, the classic animated feature The Last Unicorn has been relegated to home video since its original release in 1982. For most of its many millions of fans, the small screen is the only way they’ve ever been able to see it. Thankfully for fans of this wonderful film, Peter S. Beagle, Conlan Press, and Europe’s ITV plc (the owner of the film) have joined forces to change that!

Now a beautiful new 2K digital print of The Last Unicorn is touring the world one movie theater at a time – and on January 12 at 7pm, we are proud to present it at The Frida! Author Peter S. Beagle will be on hand to himself to host audience and audience Q&A, meet the film’s fans, give out prizes, and sign your books, videos, art prints, and soundtracks, as well as special new merchandise!

The tour began on April 20, 2013 at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, where a crowd of 800 came together at noon on a Saturday to join the film’s title character on her journey, and has since continued with sold-out shows in 17 states and 8 Canadian provinces. By the time the tour ends in July 2016, it will have played in all 50 American states, the District of Columbia, and more than 19 different countries. We are so proud to take part in this wonderful cinematic journey!

The Last Unicorn has been a fan-driven sleeper hit for decades, doing amazing business without any advertising or promotion: 6.5 million copies of the novel sold in 25 languages, 4.5 million home video copies sold in North America since 2004, and a NY Times bestselling graphic novel in 2011. Now it is showing similar legs in movie theaters thanks to the tour, which will draw more than 400,000 people into these special screenings before the final show. Peter S. Beagle’s one-of-a-kind creation is making history all over again!
