NYC – An Evening with Trevor Noah

Join Strand Book Store at Symphony Space on Thursday July 13th at 8:30PM as lauded comedian and TV show host Trevor Noah talks with publishing phenom Chris Jackson about Noah’s book, Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood.

Trevor Noah has taken the world by storm with his incendiary wit and politically charged satire, stemming from his comedy career in South Africa. He has observed tremendous success in the industry, having hosted multiple stand-up and comedy specials worldwide. After becoming the successor of The Daily Show in 2015, he chronicled tales of his life growing up in South Africa during the death throes of apartheid and the ensuing aftermath in his biography. The book documents the harrowing struggles of Noah’s early life growing up in poverty, as well as some quirky and frightening anecdotes from his adolescence and young adulthood. The words within are rife with Noah’s particular brand of humor, making the storytelling at once arresting and at the same time, hilarious.

Chris Jackson is editor-in-chief of One World Publishing, a subsidiary of Random House. Chris is credited with revitalizing the diversity focused One World Imprint, which aims to proliferate, examine, and celebrate multicultural works of literature in order to enrich our society. DC – An Evening with Trevor Noah

Comedian Trevor Noah appears at Sixth & I on Saturday, November 19th at 7:30 PM to present his new memoir BORN A  CRIME! Tickets available from Politics & Prose.

Host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah gained an international audience at the 2012 Edinburgh Festival Fringe with his furiously energetic and hilarious one-man show, The Racist. Now he looks back over the experiences that have fueled his career, charting his coming-of-age in South Africa. Born to a white, Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother, Noah was, under apartheid, illegal; after apartheid, as the country came to grips with its past and the chaos of its future, he developed a keen eye for the absurdities of politics, race, and nationalism. If survival is the theme of his book, his mother, the consummate survivor, is its heart, and Noah’s depictions of her fierce Christianity, her savvy hustling, and her determination are as moving as they are funny.

This event will not include a public signing; all books will be pre-signed by Noah.

Mandvi

Aasif Mandvi appears in conversation with Reza Aslan on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 7:30 pm! Reserve free tickets at the link…

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Presented as part of Book Soup at the Skirball, comedian Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) discusses his new memoir, No Land’s Man, with writer and scholar Reza Aslan.

If you’re an Indo-Muslim-British-American actor who has spent more time in bars than mosques over the past few decades, turns out it’s a little tough to explain who you are or where you are from. In No Land’s Man Mandvi explores this and other conundrums through humorous stories about his family, ambition, desire, and culture that range from dealing with his brunch-obsessed father to his high school career as a Michael Jackson impersonator to joining a Bible study group in order to seduce a nice Christian girl to improbably becoming America’s favorite Muslim/Indian/Arab/brown/doctor correspondent on The Daily Show.

Mandvi’s hilarious and passionate description of his journey will resonate with anyone who has had to navigate the murky space between lands. Or anyone who really loves brunch.

A book signing follows the program.

Stephen Colbert signs at Barnes & Noble in Union Square on Tuesday October 2, 2012 at 7:00 PM!

About the Author:
Stephen Colbert was The Daily Show’s longest-running and most diverse correspondent. His personality, insight and overall rightness could only lead to The Colbert Report, a half-hour nightly platform for him to give his take on the issues of the day, and, more importantly, to tell you why everyone else’s take is just plain wrong. The show has been hugely successful.
