The Baltimore Comic-Con is excited to add prolific writer Garth Ennis and publisher Dynamite Entertainment to the growing list of talent and exhibitors attending this year’s show. The show will take place September 8-9, 2012 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
Ennis, who is probably best known for his work on the Vertigo series, Preacher, as well as the creator-owned series, The Boys from Dynamite Entertainment, began his career in 1989. After several critically acclaimed works in England, he broke into the American comic scene in 1991.
Building a following on such titles as Hellblazer (Vertigo), The Demon (DC Comics), Hitman (DC Comics), Preacher (Vertigo), and PunisherMAX (Marvel Comics), Ennis is renowned as one of the best writers to come out of the “British Invasion” of the early-’90s and received and Eisner Award for Best Writer in 1998 and an Eagle Award in 1999 for Best Color Comic Book (for Preacher).
Currently, Ennis is wrapping up his final story arc for The Boys, as well as handling writing duties for the relaunch of The Shadow for Dynamite Entertainment. Ennis will be working with artist Aaron Campbell (Green Hornet: Year One, Dark Shadows) to bring the classic pulp franchise back to the printed page for a whole new generation of fans.
“The Shadow is probably the last established character I like that I haven’t gotten around to writing yet, certainly on this side of the Atlantic,” said Ennis in a recent press release. “It makes a kind of bloody, bullet-riddled sense: I always had a feeling our paths would cross sooner or later.”
Dynamite Entertainment, whose publishing works includes both licensed properties and creator-owned work, will also be exhibiting at this year’s show. Founded in 2004, Dynamite won the Diamond Gem Award for Best Publisher Under 4% of Market Share in 2011.

Garth Ennis signs at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, on Sunday 21st August 1 – 2pm for HIGHLAND LADDIE, THE BOYS VOL. 8.
Mind reeling from recent events in The Boys, Wee Hughie heads home to Auchterladle – the semi-idyllic Scottish seaside town where he grew up. All Hughie wants is some time to himself, to return to the bosom of family and friends, and get his head together after two years of unimaginable chaos. But our hero’s luck has always been more cloud than silver lining, and the familiar surroundings he craves are not all they might be. You can go home again – but with old pals warped beyond recognition and strangers in town up to no good, whether or not you should is another matter entirely…
Collecting the origin story of everyone’s favourite pint-sized Scotsman, this edition features art by Herogasm artist John McCrea and a special cover gallery from artist Darick Robertson.
GARTH ENNIS is the award-winning writer of Hellblazer, Hitman, Punisher, Preacher, Pride and Joy, and War Stories. He is much in demand for his hard-edged, wickedly humorous style.

Image Comics is proud to announce that SPAWN creator and Image Partner TODD MCFARLANE will appear at Book Expo America (BEA) on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at the Javits Center in New York City.
Image Comics will be exhibiting with Diamond Book Distributors, booth #4558. McFarlane will be at the booth for an exclusive signing from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Complimentary copies of the first HAUNT trade will be available during the signing. Image will also distribute copies of various Image Firsts titles throughout BEA.
“As the comic book culture continues to outgrow its historic roots of the comic book store, a big movement has been made towards book stores,” says McFarlane. “Book stores have now become fertile ground for people like myself, and I need to make sure I get out there, put my best foot forward, in terms of making presentations to the stores and letting retailers know what’s coming out. Now, there’re arguably just as many consumers coming to bookstores for comic product as comic book stores. They’re an extremely important part of our business.”
From budding baseball player to comic book artist extraordinaire to family man, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has a wealth of experience in the world of entertainment. McFarlane’s road trip to creative autonomy began when he accepted an assignment penciling for Marvel/Epic Comics in March 1984. From there, he worked his way to the top of the talent roster before leaving Marvel to help found Image Comics with six other artists. It was then that Todd introduced his own character, Spawn. In 1994, Todd founded McFarlane Toys. Over the years, the company has become one of the largest, most renowned toy manufacturers in the world.
Don’t miss Todd McFarlane during his one-day-only appearance at BEA on Wednesday, May 26, 2010.
