The 2017 Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards will be presented on the evening of Saturday, September 23, 2017 as part of the fan- and pro-favorite convention, The Baltimore Comic-Con. This unique evening offers the opportunity to socialize, dine, and network with comic industry professionals, and watch as they celebrate recognition of their peers, coworkers, and competitors. A limited number of tickets are now available for purchase by the public.

About Mike Wieringo:
Michael Lance “Mike” Wieringo was known to fans and friends as “Ringo”, which is how he signed his artwork. His comics artist graced the pages of DC Comics’ The FlashAdventures of SupermanBatman, and Robin, Marvel Comics’ Fantastic FourFriendly Neighborhood Spider-ManSensational Spider-Man, and Rogue, and his co-creation Tellos. He passed away on August 12, 2007 at the young age of 44 from an apparent heart attack.

Baltimore Comic-Con 2017 Announces Panel Programming

The 18th annual Baltimore Comic-Con returns to the Baltimore Convention Center the weekend of September 22-24, 2017Tickets are available now for General Admission, VIP, and Ringo Awards! As is the case every year, we have received a steady stream of requests for our Panel schedule — details are now ready for release, and we’re really excited to share them with you!

Friday will feature a spotlight on one of the most popular creators in modern comics, Frank Miller. Also, a spotlight on Matt Kindt, the Jimmy and Amanda panel, numerous panels featuring some of the industry’s largest publishers including Archie and Dynamite, a look at the Kirby Museum, and a game show!

Saturday, publisher panels include DC Comics, Marvel Comics, BOOM! Learn about magic in comics, its roots in reality, and the magic of memory. Chris Miskiewicz (Thomas Alsop) will talk about the magical mythology of New York City, and Dean Haspiel (The Red Hook) will preview his upcoming webcomic War Cry, showing how transfiguration can deliver powerful moments in storytelling. Sarah Trustman (The Memory Arts) will discuss using comics to teach real-world magic and give a demonstration of the same memory techniques that appear so fantastic that using them got people burned as witches. Melissa Benoist is an American actress and singer, known for her portrayal of “Marley Rose” on Glee and as Nicole from the acclaimed feature film Whiplash. She currently plays the title role on the breakout hit Supergirl.

Chyler Leigh is an actress best known for her role on the Seattle-based medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. New York Comic Con hosts their Fifth Annual Charity Art Auction to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on Saturday, October 10th at 7:00 PM in Room 1A18! For more details and to see a preview of the art, click here…

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Included in that vision is that no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

The auctioneer for the charity event will be Steve Borock! Steve is the president of CBCS (Comic Book Certification Service), an expert, impartial third party grading service; He also serves on the board of the Hero Initiative, a charity helping comic book creators in financial need. He believes in charity for all in need and is proud to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with our original art auction!

Your participation in this event will help support lifesaving research and treatment for the children of St. Jude. Come down and bid with other art enthusiasts for the chance to own a piece of original art from some of your favorite creators, all for a good cause!
