A new arts festival for illustrators debuts in Northampton, MA, on April 16! Celebrating illustration online and in print, Paint & Pixel Festival is a new show featuring talented, regional book illustrators, comic artists, and cartoonists and their work ranging from indie comics to award-winning picture books to nationally syndicated comic strips.
With over 45+ exhibiting artists, attendees will have the rare opportunity to talk with creators, learn about the creative process, and purchase signed books, prints, commissioned sketches, and other artwork.
Howard Cruse, renowned comic creator whose graphic novel Stuck Rubber Baby has been awarded some of the highest accolades in the industry, including Eisner and Harvey Awards, and was recently re-released for its 15th anniversary from DC Vertigo

The Center for Cartoon Studies will present a workshop that will introduce the finer points of the self-publishing process. A number of DIY production and design methods will be discussed, an inking and lettering demo will be done, and participants will get to create a minicomic on the spot!

Dewey’s Comic City is pleased to welcome pioneering creator Howard Cruse to their store for a signing on Wednesday, March 2nd, from 7:30 to 9:30pm. Cruse’s comic strips and humorous illustrations have appeared in Playboy, The Village Voice, Artforum International, Heavy Metal, The Advocate, Starlog, and numerous other mainstream American magazines, as well as in assorted underground comic books. He was the founding editor in 1980 of the Gay Comix series.
His best-known work, his graphic novel Stuck Rubber Baby, was the winner of both Eisner and Harvey Awards in the U.S. and went on to garner awards in Germany, Spain, and at Angouleme Festival. The Complete Wendel, a new compilation of the entire Wendel series from the 1980s, will be published by Universe Publishing in April 2011. Cruse’s material contains mature themes.
