Actor JAMES PUREFOY celebrates the release of Solomon Kane at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, on Saturday 20th February 1:30 – 2.30pm
RSC trained actor James Purefoy grabbed attention with his role of Mark Anthony in the BBC / HBO TV series Rome. As well as numerous TV appearances, his movie career includes Resident Evil, A Knight’s Tale, and the forthcoming John Carter Of Mars.
SOLOMON KANE, the epic fantasy adventure written and directed by Michael J. Bassett (Deathwatch), stars James Purefoy as the implacable title character, plucked from the imagination of Robert E. Howard (Conan The Barbarian), the father of the “sword and sorcery” genre. The action-packed tale of this roaming 16th Century scourge of all that is evil will be released by Entertainment Film Distributors across the United Kingdom on 19th February, 2010.
Captain Solomon Kane is a brutally efficient 16th Century killing machine. Armed with his signature pistols, cutlass and rapier, he and his men unleash their bloodlust as they fight for England in war after war on all continents. As the story opens, Kane and his band of pillagers are carving a bloody path through hordes of defenders in an exotic city in northern Africa. But when Kane decides to attack a mysterious nearby castle to plunder its rumoured riches, his mission takes a fateful turn.
One by one, Kane’s men are picked off by demonic creatures until he alone is left to face the Devil’s own Reaper – dispatched from the depths of Hell to lay claim to his hopelessly corrupt soul. Though Kane at last manages to escape, he knows that he now must redeem himself by renouncing violence and devoting himself wholly to a life of peace and purity. His newfound spirituality, however, is quickly put to the ultimate test and he finds himself having to jeopardise his own soul by re-embracing his murderous talents for a higher cause.
Please note – James Purefoy will only be signing ‘Solomon Kane’ books and merchandise.
Tacoma, Washington’s COMIC BOOK INK, celebrates the release of the SECOND VOLUME of the ongoing Saga of SOLOMON KANE with its Writer, and Dark Horse Comics Editor, SCOTT ALLIE, and Multiple Eisner Award Winning Colorist, DAVE STEWART on SATURDAY, JANUARY 23rd from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at COMIC BOOK INK (1625 East 72nd, Suite 800, Tacoma, Washington 98404).
“To have an event like this, during the month of January, is rare,” said store owner JOHN MUNN, “The fact that these two gentlemen would come up to our shop in the middle of winter… just to meet comic book fans and to talk about creating comics… Well, it really speaks to their character, how wonderful they are and how much they love being in comics. We can’t wait for them to meet our community of comic book lovers!”
Started his comics career as a self-publisher and is best know as the editor of some of the most notable comics in recent years, including CONAN, The UMBRELLA ACADEMY, The GOON BUFFY the VAMPIRE SLAYER and HELLBOY, all from DARK HORSE COMICS. His writing includes contributions to licensed properties including STAR WARS at Dark Horse Comics and BUFFY at POCKET BOOKS, but his focus has always been horror comics, most notably his creator-owned series, The DEVIL’S FOOTPRINTS, a sequel to which is underway. Dark Horse debuted the SOLOMON KANE series in 2008, written by Allie and based on the character created by ROBERT E. HOWARD. His newest work, EXURBIA, has been described as “A complex juggling act of dystopic science fiction, romance gone awry, and murder-mystery chase scene, Exurbia keeps a lot of balls in the air at all times, but brings them together in an effective, dramatic, and satisfying climax.” — Kurt Busiek
