PANELS HOSTED BY IMAGE COMICS:

Image Comics: The Future of Adventure
Friday, 6:30 pm, Room 6
Decades ago, comics captured the hearts of millions thanks to the creative and never-before-seen adventures on the printed page. Now, the tradition continues, thanks to creators like Steve Lieber (THE FIX), Meredith Finch (ROSE), Valentine de Landro (BITCH PLANET), Kelly Sue DeConnick (BITCH PLANET), and two very special and unexpected guests. Join these creators as they discuss the art of the thrill, and balancing free-wheeling adventure tales against their real life counterparts.

Image Comics: The Future of Storytelling
Saturday, 2:30 pm, Room 6
Image Comics is home to some of the best storytellers in the comics business. The trick isn’t using the same pencil or ink as your hero—it’s thinking about comics in new and exciting ways. Emma Ríos (PRETTY DEADLY), Daniel Warren Johnson (EXTREMITY), Nick Dragotta (EAST OF WEST), Leila del Duca (AFAR), and Matt Wilson (THE WICKED + THE DIVINE) co-create some of the most beautiful comics on the shelves, and are going to give you the most valuable art lesson you’ll get all year.

Image Comics: The Future of Genre
Sunday, 10:30 am, Room 6
The Future of Comics is in stories for everyone. In comics, any genre can be a smash hit or connect with readers. Do you like romance, horror, autobio, action, comedy, slice-of-life, or something else entirely? Greg Rucka (BLACK MAGICK), Michael Lark (LAZARUS), Megan Hutchison (ROCKSTARS), Joe Harris (ROCKSTARS), Brenden Fletcher (MOTOR CRUSH), and Matt Fraction (SEX CRIMINALS) create works that run the gamut and may just capture your heart.

2017 Ringo Awards Final Ballot Announced

Press Release:

The 2017 Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards are to be presented on the evening of Saturday, September 23, 2017 as part of the fan- and pro-favorite convention, the Baltimore Comic-Con. The Ringo Awards has completed the 2017 nomination process, which was inclusive of fans and comic book professionals alike, and both communities showed strong support, both in talking about us on their websites, blogs, and social media feeds, and by submitting their nominations.

With the nomination deadline looming, we continued to see significant volume each day, and determined we needed to extend our original voting deadline to accommodate as many interested participants as we reasonably could without adversely impacting our ability to release and provide sufficient voting time for the final ballot. The augmentation in participation during the nomination extension ended up being significant.

Voting on the 2017 Final Ballot is restricted to comic book industry creative community — anyone involved in and credited with creating comics professionally. We now present the inaugural Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards Final Ballot.

Playing Tabletop games in libraries is growing. As libraries expand their breadth, more and more library members are enjoying table-top games, played with real people, face-to-face, in libraries. But, what exactly are tabletop games? How do I tell board games from role-playing games, from card games? Which games are suitable for young people, and which will be enjoyed by an older crowd? This panel of gaming veterans including game publishers and distributors will cut the red tape so each library knows which games to bring in. At ALA Annual, Friday Games Night will give everyone an opportunity to play a variety of games and talk to publishers and distributors. Open gaming on the floor, during the day offers more opportunities to learn and have fun doing it.

Disney Manga: family friendly fun!

With the explosion in popularity of manga, parents and librarians have rightfully been concerned about child-friendly titles. With TOKYOPOP’s Disney Manga line, we bring the magic of Disney to this popular form of graphic novels, providing families with a way to enjoy their favorite Disney characters and stories in manga style! With titles brought directly from Japan and our own original titles made in collaboration with Disney’s team, we want to break down the misconception that all manga is inappropriate for little ones and encourage young readers with this fun line of graphic novels.
