Celebrated Guardian & Observer cartoonist Simone Lia has a new kids illustrated prose novel – They Didn’t Teach THIS in Worm School! – coming from Walker Books, and Gosh! Comics is happy to announce that we’ll be holding the launch party on Friday 12th August from 7-9pm!
They Didn’t Teach THIS In Worm School! is the tale of a resourceful worm (Marcus) and a bird (Laurence) who looks like a chicken but thinks he’s a flamingo, and their unlikely friendship. After a slightly fraught initial meeting, where Marcus convinces Laurence of the good sense of NOT eating him, the two are soon on an adventure to Africa, where Laurence believes he can truly find happiness. It’s a recipe for all-ages hijinks in a beautifully produced, copiously illustrated hardcover gem.
Simone has long been an author we’ve followed right back to her small press days, and her graphic novels Fluffy and Please God Find Me A Husband are still perennial sellers for us. From the early self-published days of Cabanon Press (in conjunction with fellow cartoonist Tom Gauld) through to her current work, her charm and wit have always shone through in her expressive art and authorial voice. As well as this, her first novel, she is also working on a sequel to Fluffy (the titular bunny from which has his own Instagram account)
