0000_mummy1_fpWriter PETER MILLIGAN and cover artist JOHN McCREA will be signing THE MUMMY #1 at the Forbidden Planet Birmingham Megastore on Saturday 12th November from 1:00 – 2:00 PM.

For 2000 years the Sect of Anubis have prolonged their life spans through human sacrifice and the enslavement of an Egyptian High Priestess cursed to walk the afterlife for all eternity. On one night every thirty years the Sect must offer up a human vessel to house the spirit of Nebetah so that they can kill her and drink her blood, thus granting them immortality. But this year they have chosen the wrong vessel and she’s not going willingly…

Peter Milligan is an award-winning London-based writer of comic books and graphic novels, published in many languages throughout the world. His work includes ground-breaking titles such as the psychedelic Shade The Changing Man and SKIN, about a skinhead suffering from the effects of Thalidomide, up to Greek Street, an homage to Greek myth seen through the prism of violent modern-day London. His work also includes the more mainstream, from Batman to the successful and critically acclaimed re-imagining of the X-Men myth: X-STATIX, described by Kevin Smith as “the most well-observed scholarly analysis of media-manipulation filtered through a pop-culture lens ever committed to the page”. He has also had two films produced: Pilgrim starring Ray Liotta and An Angel For May, starring Tom Wilkinson.

John McCrea is a respected illustrator and comic book artist who has illustrated iconic characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Hulk, Spider Man, Daredevil, Wolverine, Star Wars, Judge Dredd and the Simpsons. He works as an illustrator in book, record and magazine publishing, and undertakes design and storyboarding work for multimedia and the entertainment industry including being a Lucasfilm accredited artist. He also teaches in schools and colleges, and works with charitable organisations and local authorities producing comics spotlighting issues such as children’s rights, drug abuse, homelessness, safe sex and proper foot care.

Writer Peter Milligan will be signing his new graphic novel, The Discipline, at our London Megastore at 6:00pm on Wednesday 5th October.

The Discipline is a controversial story of sex and metamorphosis.

When frustrated Manhattan wife Melissa Peake allows herself to be seduced by a mysterious stranger, she is drawn into an ancient war between The Discipline and the creatures known as The Stalkers and must discover hitherto unimagined potential within herself to survive. But at what cost?

Glyn Dillon (Nao of Brown, Deadline), the Concept Artist for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, appears at Gosh! Comics on Thursday, February 25 from 7:30 – 9:00 PM! Glyn will be giving a talk and answering your questions about his design work on the recent film, giving us a behind the scenes look at the latest installment of the saga! Afterwards, he will be signing copies of the new Art of Star Wars book which features many of his original his original designs. Space will be limited and seats allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Peter Milligan is an acclaimed British comics writer and alumnus of 2000AD. Milligan was one of the founding writers of DC’s cutting edge Vertigo imprint, and has written a huge array of titles, including Animal Man, Tank Girl, Shade: The Changing Man, and X-Force.

Artist Brendan McCarthy has worked for the 2000 AD, Crisis, and Revolver. For Crisis, he drew the highly controversial Skin, also created with and written by Peter Milligan. He has worked as designer on the films Highlander, the first live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, Lost In Space, and The Borrowers. His designs also feature in the forthcoming Max Max: Fury Road.

Mark Buckingham Joins the British Invasion at Baltimore Comic-Con 2012

The Baltimore Comic-Con is happy to announce the addition of Mark Buckingham to the “British Invasion” taking place at this year’s show, which will be held on September 8-9, 2012 at the Baltimore Convention Center. Buckingham joins already-announced British creators Brian Bolland and Barry Kitson for the 13th annual show.Buckingham, who is best-known and most-celebrated for his work on the long-running Vertigo title Fables, began his career in 1990 working with Neil Gaiman on Miracleman from Eclipse Comics. Working on such titles as 2000 ADHellblazer, and Shade, the Changing Man, he became a mainstay at DC Comics after taking over art duties on Fables with issue #6.

His run on the popular imprint title has earned him four Eisner Awards, including Best New Series in 2003, Best Serialized Story in 2005 and 2006, and Best Artist/Penciler/Inker in 2007.

“We are delighted to be adding another amazing artist from across the pond in Mark Buckingham,” said Marc Nathan, show promoter for the Baltimore Comic-Con. “His influence on the landscape of American comics has helped propel Fables to one of longest-running and most popular titles in Vertigo’s library.”
