OR – Art of Kill The Minotaur Signing + Art Show

Press Release:

Sequential Art Gallery + Studio is excited to have artist LUKAS KETNER return to exhibit his artwork from KILL THE MINOTAUR from Image Comics. The exhibition begins with an artist’s reception from 6pm-10pm on Thursday, November 2nd, and will be available for viewing throughout November.

In KILL THE MINOTAUR, Chris Pasetto, Christian Cantamessa (RED DEAD REDEMPTION) and Ketner (WITCH DOCTOR) reinvent the most fearsome beast of all with this horrific tale of heroism. Athens lost the war to Crete. Now, they pay tribute to King Minos by sacrificing their best citizens to his unearthly labyrinth. Conspirators believe Theseus can be the hero they need to end the mad king’s bloody reign… but no one on this world has ever encountered anything like the savage minotaur.

Lukas Ketner grew up in Anchorage until moving to Portland, Oregon in 2000. He is the artist and co-creator of Witch Doctor, the launch title for Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s Skybound imprint at Image Comics. Other work includes stories for Dark Horse Comics’ Creepy Comics and Supersized: Strange Tales From a Fast-Food Culture, along with covers for IDW’s Hellraiser title. His illustration work varies from his work in comics to editorial illustrations for magazines and alt-weeklies to motorcycle helmet artwork for Icon Motosports. He was a 2009 nominee for the Russ Manning Award, and has twice won entry into the Communication Arts Illustration Annual for his album artwork for the band The Builders and the Butchers.

The KILL THE MINOTAUR exhibit will be on display the entire month of November. The gallery is open for viewing Mondays 2pm-6pm, Saturdays 11am-5pm, and by appointment. The exhibit closes on Saturday, December 2nd, at the end of business.

OR – The Art of Shutter Exhibition

Press Release:

Sequential Art Gallery + Studio is proud to present LEILA DEL DUCA, and her art from SHUTTER from Image Comics. The exhibition begins with an artist’s reception from 6pm-10pm on opening night Thursday, September 7th, and will be available for viewing throughout September.

Del Duca is both the artist and the co-creator of SHUTTER, along with writer Joe Keatinge. Described by NPR as the first postmodern take on the adventurer genre, SHUTTER tells the tale of Kate Kristopher, once the most famous explorer of an alternate, fantastical Earth. Kate is forced to return to the adventurous life she left behind when a family secret threatens to destroy everything she spent her life protecting. SHUTTER ended with issue #30 in July of this year; the final collected trade is due out this September.

Leila del Duca is a comic book artist and writer currently living in Portland, Oregon. Since co-creating SHUTTER with Joe Keatinge in 2014, Leila has worked on other titles including THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, SCARLET WITCH, and AMERICAN VAMPIRE. She also wrote AFAR, the young adult graphic novel drawn by Kit Seaton, published by Image Comics. In 2015 and 2016, Leila was nominated for the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award for her work on SHUTTER.

The SHUTTER exhibit will be on display the entire month of September. The gallery is open for viewing Mondays 2pm-6pm, Saturdays 11am-5pm, and by appointment. The exhibit closes on Saturday, September 30th, at the end of business.

Press Release:

Dark Horse Comics is proud to announce Work Horse: Art by the People Who Make Your Comics, an employee art exhibition at Sequential Art Gallery + Studio in Portland.

Dark Horse staff members are always working with art in some capacity, but contrary to popular belief, not all are in-house illustrators. After several discussions between employees, it was discovered that there are many talented, artistic employees in all departments who work outside of the office in mediums ranging from paint, photography, and digital art to sculpture and embroidery.

Sequential Art Gallery + Studio, which has previously shown artwork by illustrators Tyler Crook (Harrow County, Bad Blood), Joëlle Jones (Lady Killer, Dr. Horrible), and Ben Dewey (Husbands, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9), has teamed up with Dark Horse to showcase the artwork of those who produce, promote, and sell our comics. The exhibition gives Dark Horse staff the opportunity to put their own awesome work on display, including pieces by Conley Presler (Digital Art), Ethan Kimberling (Design), Rhiannon Rasmussen-Silverstein (Production), Melissa Martin (Digital Art), Rick DeLucco (Design), Kelly Woessner (Marketing), and more!

“Dark Horse is known for nurturing artistic expression in our creators and artists. I’m proud to extend Dark Horse employees the opportunity to showcase their artistic excellence in the Dark Horse art show. We don’t just make comics; we make art,” says Dark Horse publisher and president Mike Richardson.

The exhibition will run December 1–26, 2016. The opening reception is December 1, 2016, at 6 p.m. at Sequential Art Gallery + Studio, 328 NW Broadway #113, Portland, Ore.
