Hero Initiative hits Phoenix Comicon with Special Guest Rick Leonardi & Wonder Woman 100 Live Auction

Hero Initiative, the charity that helps comic book creators in medical and financial need, will hit the Phoenix Comicon in a HUGE way at the Phoenix Convention Center May 25-May 28.

Special guest artist Rick Leonardi will be at the Hero booth, #396-398, Friday through Sunday. Rick has been entertaining comic fans for 30 years on titles ranging from Cloak and Dagger to Uncanny X-Men, so make sure you swing by the booth for sketches and autographs!

And Hero’s MASSIVE event will be the second stage of The Wonder Woman 100 Project auctions! You can swing by the booth to view 37 original Wonder Woman covers and bid on them in an exciting auction on Saturday, May 27th at 6:00 PM in Room 127C in the convention center. In addition, artists across the floor will be raising money for Hero all weekend. #GenerationRevolution: Animators Day Off – What do artists and writers do when they aren’t working on your favorite animated projects from film, TV, and video games? The Psychology of Batman – Join Dr. Andrea Letamendi and Brian Ward, as they bring their hit podcast, The Arkham Sessions, to Comic Con Revolution! Using episodes of the iconic ’90s cartoon Batman: The Animated Series, The Arkham Sessions dishes out real knowledge about mental health and mental illness, as they analyze Batman and his infamous Rogues Gallery. Alongside special guest Livio Ramondelli (IDW’s Transformers), this very special panel will take a look at the fan favorite episode “”Over the Edge.””

John Carpenter’s “The Thing” 35th Anniversary Art Book – Filled with art inspired by the film. Join special guests Tim Bradstreet, Cat Staggs, and Stormking Productions’ Sandy King Carpenter as they take a look at some of the art being seen for the first time ever, and talk about their memories of watching John Carpenter’s The Thing. Oh, and did we mention The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? Filmmaker and Slayer: Repentless comic book writer Jon Schnepp is hosting?

How To Create Characters and Write Super Stories Do you want to create your own characters and write and draw their amazing adventures? Come join Super Siblings and Pandamonium cartoonist Patrick Scullin as he teaches how to make original picture books. Bring your imagination and some drawing supplies and Patrick will guide you through the steps of creating a story and putting it to paper. No drawing experience is required for this family friendly session.

LARP 101: Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse” This panel is for anyone interested in what LARP (Live Action Role Playing) is and how it is played/how to get into LARPing.

Comic Book Icons Join Silicon Valley Comic Con 2017

Silicon Valley Comic Con (SVCC), Steve Wozniak’s pop culture and technology expo, today revealed its initial list of more than 25 iconic comic book authors and artist who will be in attendance for photo opportunities and special signings during the 2017 show. The second annual SVCC will be hosted at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, CA the weekend of April 21-23.

Among the comic book talent highlights at this year’s event include:

Scott Koblish is an accomplished comic book artist, having worked for both Marvel & DC on titles such as Deadpool, X-Men, Elektra, Punisher, Final Crisis, Huntress / Power Girl, Forever People, Omac, and MANY MANY more, over 500 issues of comics so far. In the last few years, his name has been associated with everything Deadpool, both on the regular series and several mini-series. Just this month, Scott has three issues of Deadpool coming out: Deadpool: Masacre, Deadpool: The Last Days of Magic and Deadpool #12 of the regular series. Scott Koblish IS DEADpool.

Sketch Fighter Panel at ECCC 2016

The quick-draw game that pairs professional comic book artists with stand-up comedians will crown a champion team from a talented field of four teams at the EMERALD CITY COMIC CON on April 9th at 2:00 PM. The top half of the bracket features artist SCOTT KOBLISH (Deadpool) and comedian DYLAN COLE vs. artist JEFF JOHNSON (Bornhome, Wonder Man) and comedian SILAS LINDENSTEIN. The bottom half will see artist CHRIS BURNHAM (Nameless, Batman, Incorporated) and comedian SALLY JORDAN squaring off against artist NICK PITARRA (The Manhattan Projects) and comedian EMMETT MONTGOMERY.

The Burnham-Pitarra matchup will not be the first time the two have faced each other in Sketch Fighter as Burnham edged Pitarra out in the finals of the 2014 C2E2 convention. Scott Koblish earned the top seed by virtue of a tournament victory in February, thus forcing the first-round rematch between Burnham and Pitarra.

All art created during the game, as well as one drawing done by each artists prior to the event will be auctioned off at the conclusion of the game, with the proceeds going to the HERO INITIATIVE.
