Free Comic Book Day 2013 is just around the corner and Cards, Comics & Collectibles – Baltimore’s Premiere Comic Book Store and the Official News Source of the Baltimore Comic-Con – is pulling out all of the stops for this year’s event! Everyone has been wondering what we were going to do and we’re finally ready to announce it! This is the one you’ve been waiting for!
The full-day event kicks off with an awesome line-up of creators appearing at the store! Adam Kubert, Frank Cho, and Steve Conley will be all signing and sketching at the store throughout the day.
Legendary Marvel and DC Comics artist Adam Kubert, whose most recent work includes Marvel’s Avengers vs. X-Men event and the recently launched Avengers series, will be signing and sketching from 12:00pm – 2:30pm, and again from 3:30pm – 6:00pm. He is the featured artist in DC’s Free Comic Book Day 2013 issue, Superman: The Last Son of Krypton #1.
The son of comics legend, Joe Kubert, Adam started his illustrious career in comics in 1993 drawing Wolverine for Marvel Comics. He was a mainstay at Marvel, working on such titles as X-Men, Ultimate X-Men, and Ultimate Fantastic Four, until 2005 when he signed an exclusive contract with DC Comics. While there, he served as artist on Action Comics, DC Universe: Last Will and Testament, and Batman and The Outsiders Special. In 2009, he returned to Marvel where he remains today.
Frank Cho’s body of work at Marvel includes such titles as New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Shanna the She-Devil, New Ultimates, X-Men: Schism, and Avengers vs. X-Men. He is also well-known for his creator-owned series, Liberty Meadows, and his work on Jungle Girl for Dynamite Entertainment. Cho, who is currently writing and drawing Savage Wolverine, will be signing and sketching from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.
Award-winning designer, illustrator, and cartoonist Steve Conley has worked on such notable comics as Star Trek: Year Four (IDW), Michael Chabon’s Amazing Adventures of the Escapist (Dark Horse Comics), and JLA-Z (DC Comics). Conley, who is also the creator of Astounding Space Thrills and the all-ages series Bloop (www.bloopstree.com), will be signing and sketching all day.
In addition to the creator line-up, Baltimore’s Z104.3 will be setting up and broadcasting live at the store. Fans can sign up to win a pair of tickets to the Z104.3 screening of Iron Man 3 at the Rotunda Movie Theatre which will be drawn every 15 minutes! Carnival games and an all-ages obstacle course will also be set up for fans to win CDs, movie passes, and items from the movie!
Get your picture taken with Cosplay Girls courtesy of Comic Con Cuties and, as special treat for our fans, Bill Bateman’s Bistro will be set up and offering discounts to fans who come to the store!

Boston Comic Con is happy to welcome back artist Frank Cho to the 2013 convention to meet his fans and sign comics! Frank Cho made a big splash with his comic strip Liberty Meadows while still in college. Entirely self-taught, he is regarded as one of the best Good Girl artists in the business; his sexy ladies have grace the pages of Mighty Avengers, The Ultimates, and Shanna the She-Devil. His latest project is Savage Wolverine for Marvel NOW.

Superstar artist Frank Cho signs in-store on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 4:00 – 7:30 pm for the Savage Wolverine #1 Release Party at Cards, Comics & Collectibles, the official retailer and news source for the Baltimore Comic-Con.
Savage Wolverine, which is being written and drawn by Cho as a part of the Marvel NOW! initiative, is an all-out adventure story which finds the title character awaking on the shores of a mysterious and dangerous island off the coast of the Savage Land.
Cho’s body of work at Marvel includes such titles as New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Shanna the She-Devil, New Ultimates, X-Men: Schism, and Avengers vs. X-Men. He is also well-known for his creator-owned series, Liberty Meadows and his work on Jungle Girl for Dynamite Entertainment.
“We couldn’t be happier to have Frank in the store to celebrate the release of Savage Wolverine #1,” said Marc Nathan, owner of Cards, Comics & Collectibles and show promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “Frank is a long-time friend of both the store and the Baltimore show and every time he signs here, it’s a big treat for all of our customers!”

Baltimore Comic-Con 2013 Adds More Guests

The Baltimore Comic-Con is happy to announce the next group of confirmed guest for the 2013 show, taking place the weekend of September 7-8, 2013. Mark Buckingham, Dave Gibbons, Adam Hughes, Paul Levitz, George Perez, Walter Simonson, Louise Simonson, and Allison Sohn will all be attending our 14th Annual show !
Mark Buckingham, who is best-known and most-celebrated for his work on the long-running Vertigo title Fables, began his career in 1990 working with Neil Gaiman on Miracleman from Eclipse Comics. Working on such titles as 2000 AD, Hellblazer, and Shade, the Changing Man, he became a mainstay at DC Comics after taking over art duties on Fables with issue #6. His run on the popular imprint title has earned him four Eisner Awards, including Best New Series in 2003, Best Serialized Story in 2005 and 2006, and Best Artist/Penciler/Inker in 2007.
Legendary artist Dave Gibbons is best known for his collaboration with Alan Moore on the seminal mini-series,Watchmen. With a career that spans more than four decades, Gibbons has provided artowrk for 2000 AD, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Dark Horse Comics, and has worked with such characters as Judge Dredd, Captain America, Superman and Batman. He is currently working on The Secret Service with Mark Millar though Marvel’s Icon imprint.
As far as cover artists working in comics today, Adam Hughes is among the very best. A 12-year veteran of Gaijin Studios, Hughes is most widely recognized for his pin-up style renditions of female characters, especially over the course of his long runs as cover artist on Wonder Woman and Catwoman. His most recent work includes the Before Watchmen mini-series, Dr. Manhattan. Hughes won the Harvey Award for Best Cover Artist in 2001, 2002, and 2003.
Paul Levitz has been a mainstay at DC
Comics since 1972, serving as a writer, editor, and President (2002 – 2009) over the tenure of his career. His name is synonymous with the Legion of Super-Heroes, which he wrote from 1977-1979 and 1981-1989, and he created such notable characters as the Stalker, the Earth-2 Huntress, and Lucien the Librarian. Levitz has since returned to writing the Legion of Super-Heroes for the New 52, as well as the Earth-2 centric book, World’s Finest.
Writer/artist George Perez established himself as a fan-favorite creator during his lengthy runs on Marvel Comics’ Avengers, and DC Comics’ Teen Titans and Wonder Woman. Over the course of his 40-year career, Perez has drawn nearly every character in both the Marvel and DC Universes, and has worked on such ground breaking events as the Infinity Gauntlet, JLA/Avengers, and Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds. In 2011, he reunited with long-time collaborator Marv Wolfman to publish the long-awaited New Teen Titans: Games graphic novel. Currently, he is working as the artist for DC’s World’s Finest with Paul Levitz. 
Walter Simonson is best known for his run on The Mighty Thor throughout the 1980s. His classic run was recently collected by Marvel in The Mighty Thor Omnibus by Walter Simonson, a massive tome which featured issues #337-355, #357-369, and #371-382, as well as the mini-series, Balder the Brave #1-4. In addition to his work on Thor, Simonson has worked on such titles as Detective Comics, Avengers, and Marvel’s Star Wars comics. In 2010, Simonson received the Hero Initiative Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented at the Harvey Awards.
Louise Simonson began her career in as an editor in 1974 before moving on to writing for Marvel Comics in 1984. She is best known for her work on Power Pack, X-Factor, N
ew Mutants, and Superman: The Man of Steel. In addition to comics, Simonson is an accomplished novelist, having published 14 books between 1993 and 2009.
Sketch card artist Allison Sohn’s work has been showcased in several trading card sets, including: Star Wars Galaxy Series 4 and 5 and the Star Wars 30th Anniversary Collection; Women of Marvel; Indiana Jones Heritage; Lord of the Rings Masterpieces, Series 1 and 2; and the Red Sonja 35th Anniversary. In addition, she provided the exclusive artwork for both Star Wars Celebration IV and V. In 2011, Sohn was the feature of a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con International called Comic-Con How-To: Sketching with Allison Sohn, in which she demonstrated her craft using Copic markers.
“We are so excited to able to announce these great guests for next year’s show,” said Marc Nathan, show promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “It’s not even 2013 yet, and with Mark, Dave, Adam, Paul, George, Walter, Louise, and Allison joining the list of guests, the level of top-tier talent for the show is just getting better and better!”
