Comments Off on Richard Dean Anderson 2nd Celebrity Guest Announced for Emerald City Comicon 2014
Comicon gets itself into a a bit of a bind. Time to call MacGyver!
Pop culture icon Richard Dean Anderson comes to Seattle’s rescue!
Seattle, WA – Handsome and durable Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver, Stargate SG-1) is the second celebrity guest announced for the upcoming 12th annual Emerald City Comicon taking place on March 28th – 30th, 2014 at the Washington State Convention Center. He will be appearing all three days!
Richard Anderson is known worldwide as the title character in the hit 80s series MacGyver. Running for seven seasons on ABC, the action hero was notorious for getting himself out of tricky situations week after week purely by using his intellect and not firearms. The character, even though new episodes haven’t been produced in over two decades, continues to endure in pop culture, spawning not only the spoof film MacGruber, reprising “Angus MacGyver” in 2006 for a series of Mastercard commercials, but having become a verb in daily conversation.
Anderson would go on to achieve equal success as “Jack O’Neill” for eight seasons on Stargate SG-1, a television version of the cult theatrical film that starred Kurt Russell. Anderson also served as executive producer on the series. Leaving the show early to raise his daughter, he continued to appear as “O’Neill” in guest appearances on Stargate SG-1 as well as several of its various spin-offs.
Before becoming known as an action star, he played a doctor on the long-running soap General Hospital, starring as “Dr. Jeff Webber” from 1976 until 1981. Other television credits include the short-lived UPN series Legend, The Love Boat, The Facts of Life and most recently on the FOX comedy Raising Hope.
Born in Minnesota, Anderson originally had aspirations to become a professional hockey player until he broke both of his arms. Before making it as an actor, he worked as a whale handler in a marine mammal show, a musician in medieval dinner theater, and as a street mime and juggler. Anderson also seriously considered a career as a jazz musician.
Anderson is also an avid supporter and activist for various causes including Special Olympics, Waterkeeper Alliance and the Sclerosis Society. He is also on the Board of Trustees for Challengers Boys and Girls Club, as well as on the Board of Advisors of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
Anderson joins previously announced celebrity guest Nichelle Nichols (“Lt. Uhura” from Star Trek) as the first of roughly two dozen celebrity guests to be announced for this spectacular weekend, in addition to hundreds of popular comic guests, exhibitors and several exciting new offerings and surprises.
Coming off of a sold out 2013 show, tickets for Emerald City Comicon 2014 will be in high demand when they go on sale September 1st, 2014!
With a record turnout of 64,000 patrons in 2013, Emerald City Comicon consistently ranks as one of the Top 10 most attended conventions of its kind in North America as well as increasingly becoming the favorite show among many fans, comic guests, journalists and celebrities.
Established in 2003, Emerald City Comicon, while renowned worldwide for its growing popularity, continues to remain the Northwest’s premier comic book and pop culture convention founded in the belief that investing in local artists, companies and individuals is a lasting recipe for success and longevity.

Comments Off on John Romita, Jr. and Richard Dean Anderson Added to May 2013 Dallas Comic Con
John Romita Jr. and Richard Dean Anderson join Dallas Comic Con, May 17-19
The May 17-19 installment of the Dallas Comic Con just gets more and more exciting. Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA artist John Romita Jr. (co-creator of KICK-ASS) and STARGATE actor Richard Dean Anderson have joined the already-impressive guest list, making this one Texas event people should definitely not miss. Romita doesn’t do many shows these days, and this is his second DCC appearance after a two-year absence. Event Manager Mark Walters noted “Having John back is a big deal for us, not just because we love the guy and would welcome him anytime, but it’s also ever-so-fitting with KICK-ASS 2 hitting theaters this August. He’s always a big hit with the fans, and we’re stoked he’s coming back to Big D.” Those looking for a nice Sci-Fi angle should be pleased at the addition of Richard Dean Anderson, who many know from the popular MACGYVER television series, and STARGATE fans love for his leading role of “Colonel Jack O’Neill” in STARGATE SG-1 and SGU STARGATE UNIVERSE. Walters adds “Richard is one of those elusive guests everyone wants to see and we’ve been hoping to add for many years now. In a never-ending effort to make the fans happy, we finally got him, and this is a rare appearance that should excite Sci-Fi fans in a big way.” Anderson and Romita join a guest list that already includes comic book creators like Jim Steranko, Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner, Len Wein, Terry Moore and Arthur Suydam, along with media guests like FIREFLY’s Nathan Fillion, STAR TREK’s William Shatner, SUPERMAN RETURNS star Brandon Routh, SPECIES star Natasha Henstridge, FANTASTIC FOUR star Ioan Gruffudd, and TRUE BLOOD star Kristin Bauer… among many others. The Dallas Comic Con is held at the Irving Convention Center on May 17-19, 2013. VIP passes are already sold out, but General Admission tickets are available online and at the box office during show hours.
