They are also the basis of True Blood, the HBO series produced by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under) and starring Golden Globe winner Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie.  Charlaine also writes the Harper Connelly series.

ABOUT LITERARY FEATURED GUESTS:

RACHEL CAINE is The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Morganville Vampires, Weather Warden, and Outcast Seasonnovels, among many others. She grew up in the badlands outside of El Paso, Texas. General Sheridan famously said, “If I owned Texas and Hell, I would rent out Texas and live in Hell.” Rachel’s trying her best, with the Morganville series, to prove him right. (But still, she does lives in Fort Worth, Texas. Not Hell.)

CHRISTINA HENRY is the author of the Black Wings series and enjoys running long distances, reading anything she can get her hands on and watching movies with subtitles in her spare time. Henry used to work in a comic book store and as a result, has boxes of bagged and boarded comics in her attic.  She lives in Chicago with her husband and son, and can be found on the web at www.christinahenry.net.

MARI MANCUSI used to wish she could become a vampire back in high school. But she ended up in another blood sucking profession—journalism—instead. Today she writes books for teens and adults. When not writing about creatures of the night, Mari enjoys traveling, cooking, goth clubbing, watching cheesy horror movies, and her favorite guilty pleasure—videogames. A graduate of Boston University and a two time Emmy Award winner, she lives in Austin, Texas with her husband Jacob, daughter Avalon and dog Mesquite. You can find Mari online at www.bloodcovenvampires.com.

CHLOE NEILL was born and raised in the South, but now makes her home in the Midwest. Chloe is the author of the fan-favorite and The New York Times bestselling Chicagoland Vampires series. She watches entirely too much television, roots for her favorite college football team, and believes, however unlikely, that she’ll one day finish a half-marathon. You can learn about Chloe Neill and Chicago’s vampires at www.chloeneill.com.

VERONICA WOLFF, once an aspiring art historian, is an award-winning, bestselling author with a soft spot for kilts and vampires. Known for her Scottish historical romances, she now writes a young adult series called The Watchers as well as an adult contemporary romance series called Sierra Falls. She has lived everywhere from Texas, to Hawaii, to India, finally settling in Northern California where she lives with her husband, two kids, and a houseful of pets.  Her unmarketable skills include snowboarding, speaking Hindi, gardening, and knowing an alarming amount of pop-culture trivia.

Press Release:

EXHIBIT SPACE AT NEW YORK COMIC CON SOLD OUT!

Show Floor to Occupy Entire Javits Exhibit Hall; Chevrolet to be “Vehicle Sponsor”; Cultyard Pavilion and Other Attractions are Convention Floor Highlights

New York Comic ConNorwalk, CT, September 29, 2011:  Officials at New York Comic Con have announced that the show floor for this year’s highly anticipated convention is sold out.  This “sell out” two weeks before the show marks another milestone in the convention’s enormous growth since its debut in 2006.  The show floor will occupy the complete exhibit hall of Javits Center as the entire convention takes up 470,000 square feet of space.   In total, over 700 exhibitors and 400 artists will participate in this year’s event which will include an expanded autographing area as well as 3 full days of public access to the show.  Notably, this year will feature a Vehicle Sponsor, as Chevrolet will host the New York consumer debut for the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic at New York Comic Con.  Additionally, after a hugely successful debut last year, the Cultyard Pavilion will return again this year with over 40 exhibitors featuring art, design, collectible toys, pop-tech, and fashion.  And, in what NYCC is informally calling the “Star Wars Zip Code” in the exhibition hall, attendees will find new Star Wars products from licensees and dealers, as well as a special Celebration VI area.

The 2011 New York Comic Con takes place October 13-16, 2011.  NYCC, which attracted 96,000 attendees in 2010, celebrates comics, television, movies, toys, games, and the popular arts from around the planet.  Exhibitors spanning all these areas of the pop culture universe will participate in the show including: Activision, AMC, Archaia, Capcom, Comedy Central, Dark Horse, DC, Hasbro, HBO, IGN, Marvel, Mattel, and Xbox to name just a very few.

“I think it’s amazing that Chevrolet is leveraging New York Comic Con to launch the 2012 Sonic,” notes Lance Fentsterman.  “We are proud to welcome Chevrolet to our show and the fact that they see such value in our audience speaks volumes about the influence and power of the pop culture world.  As always, our show floor will be packed with an enormous range of product, promotions and diverse activity.  Our intent is to deliver maximum entertainment while also providing a super dynamic business and marketing environment that benefits both exhibitors and consumers.”

“Sonic and New York Comic Con are a natural partnership,” said William Fleck, Northeast regional marketing manager for Chevrolet. “We are trying to market Sonic to early adopters – those who are the first to try all-things-new.  They are immersed in pop culture, can spot trends early and have the power to transform a simple trend into a lifestyle.  NYCC is the perfect place for us to reach that audience.”

Maintaining the spirit of New York Comic Con, Chevrolet will showcase four special-edition, illustrated Sonics and a gigantic, gas-filled flying Sonic. Drawing inspiration from the convention, an artist will work on illustrating a fifth Sonic in real time throughout the show.  Chevrolet also will host an interactive scavenger hunt for all attendees of the conference. Winners of the scavenger hunt will take home a variety of impressive Chevrolet swag.

As noted, Star Wars will also have its own “Zip Code” at New York Comic Con.  There, attendees will learn more about the huge Star Wars fan party coming next August, co-created by Lucasfilm and ReedPOP, order tickets, and purchase exclusive Star Wars Celebration VI merchandise.  Meanwhile, in addition to their significant booth presence, first time exhibitor Hasbro will be the title sponsor of New York Comic Con’s “NYCC Kids!” taking place on Sunday, October 16.  Within NYCC Kids!, Hasbro will host the National BEYBLADE Championship where semi-finalists from around the country will battle in head-to-head competition to be crowned the BEYBLADE U.S. Champion.

Tickets for NYCC are on sale via the website www.NewYorkComicCon.com.  Limited 4-Day tickets are available.  For further information about all ReedPOP shows and activity, please visit Lance Fensterman’s blog, www.MediumAtLarge.net.  Convention organizers note that more guests will be announced over the next few weeks and fans should keep their eyes on NYCC’s website and blog for additional comics, entertainment and anime announcements.

White Space Launches at NYCC 2011

Press Release:

ReedPOP has today announced the launch of WHITE SPACE, an exclusive invitation-only summit tailored to influencers and decision makers who help shape the direction of the business of popular culture.  WHITE SPACE will take place on the afternoon of Thursday October 13th, 2011 at the Javits Center in New York City just hours before the doors open for the 2011 New York Comic Con.  Conceived as a think tank for 100 masters and innovators in the fields of TV, film, comics, games, technology and advertising, WHITE SPACE is not a traditional conference, but is designed to foster open, transparent discussion between industry leaders. It will be kicked off by brief talks from three masters of media followed by small group discussions led by influential moderators.  A drinks reception will conclude the summit meeting.

WHITE SPACE is set to be an annual event co-located with New York Comic Con with an evolving format to grow in size and scale in 2012.  The concept is a joint venture with MIPTV, the world’s leading market for creating, financing and distributing TV content in all its forms.  MIPTV, which takes place annually in Cannes, France, is owned and organized by Reed MIDEM, part of Reed Exhibitions, which also owns ReedPOP.  GeekChicDaily and Nerdist Industries, the cross-platform producers and publishers of popular culture fare, are strategic partners to WHITE SPACE and will aid the effort to curate a varied and unique constituency of attendee and also will assist in the programming of the day.  GeekChicDaily and Nerdist are backed by industry notables such as Legendary Pictures, Mandalay Entertainment, Joe Roth and Machinima CEO Allen DeBevoise.

“Just as New York Comic Con showcases what is new in TV, movies, games, toys and comic books, WHITE SPACE will gather the leading voices in these worlds into one room, where their learning across diverse businesses will form a chorus in a discussion of the pop culture consumer,” notes Lance Fensterman, Group Vice President of ReedPOP.   “The New York Comic Con exhibit floor represents everything that is real, tangible, and material in the pop culture universe, while WHITE SPACE will be the flip side, the foundation on which all of the content of NYCC is based.  Our discussion and focus will be on the consumer revolution and the complex and influential relationship between consumers, content, brands, and devices.”

In the modern world it doesn’t matter if content is being consumed via the big screen, the television screen, the computer screen, or on a mobile device.  Organizers note that pop culture – in all its forms – shares a specific language and WHITE SPACE will be an examination of its four most radically changing definitions: Platforms, Publicity, Profits and People.  “Not long ago there were TV channels and people watched what they were told to watch,” Fensterman continues.  “Today we make our own TV.  We have transformed the culture and the consumer is now the creator, creating content on demand, and our marketing has changed from a megaphone to a discerning ear.  Our goal at WHITE SPACE is to examine this transformation and to be the ‘discerning ear’ for the future.”

“The US audience and content creators are a driving force of the new fan engagement and innovation that has swept through the entertainment business.  TV content has been a cornerstone of popular culture for decades. Today, that content is not only produced differently, with far more input from audiences, brands, and technology, but also has access to exciting social, mobile and video-rich platforms for passionate fans! These communities come together at MIPTV and now they will share their collective knowledge of the business of popular culture with top US-based decision makers at WHITE SPACE,” enthuses Anne de Kerckhove, Director of Reed MIDEM’s Entertainment Division.

“ReedPOP is the premier player in the field of operating top shelf experiences around the space of popular culture,” states GeekChicDaily founder and CEO Peter Levin, “Their attention to detail and respect within the industry make partnering on their WHITE SPACE initiative an honor and a pleasure.”

WHITE SPACE executives will open this year’s event by describing plans for 2012 which call for a continuation of high-level discussion along with exhibits of the technology which is driving so much transformation in the pop culture universe.  The ultimate objective is to build a business-based show-within-a-show for the makers and developers of pop culture while providing the exposure, audience and reach which defines New York Comic Con.

Press Release:

AWARD-WINNING CREATOR ROBERT KIRKMAN IS FIRST GUEST ANNOUNCED FOR 2011 NEW YORK COMIC CON

Acclaimed Writer to be Guest of Honor at Expanded Show

Norwalk, CT, May 5, 2011: Robert Kirkman, the Eisner Award-winning creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible, will be a Guest of Honor at this year’s New York Comic Con, which will take place at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, Thursday, October 13 – Sunday October 16, 2011. Mr. Kirkman is the first guest to be announced for this year’s convention. Show organizers note that Mr. Kirkman will have a prominent role and will participate in panels as well as appear at the Image Comics booth. Further details about his participation will be posted on the NYCC website as soon as they become available.

Meanwhile, as previously announced, New York Comic Con will be extended by an extra day in 2011 in order to accommodate even more attendees. Nearly 100,000 fans, guests, and professionals attended the 2010 edition of the annual pop culture gathering. For the first time, the convention will be open to the public for three full days – Friday (10/14), Saturday (10/15), and Sunday (10/16). NYCC’s additional day of convention activity will take place on Thursday (10/13) with academic programming beginning at 12 noon. The convention floor will officially open for professional hours and a new fan preview night for 4-day ticket holders and VIPs on Thursday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

“Robert Kirkman is one of a handful of highly acclaimed and prestigious creators who raises the bar and sets a standard of excellence for our show,” notes Lance Fensterman, Group Vice President for ReedPOP and Show Manager for New York Comic Con. “We are extremely grateful to him for agreeing so early to participate in our show. He is a superstar and we will have thousands of fans who will be incredibly anxious to see him. This is a terrific announcement as it signals the type of exciting guest appearances that we will be revealing in the coming months as we prepare for an even longer and more comprehensive New York Comic Con. The fun is just beginning!”

About Robert Kirkman: Robert Kirkman is a New York Times bestselling author known for being a cultural zeitgeist of the comic book industry. Following the grassroots success of the self-published Battle Pope (2000), Kirkman caught the eye of Image Comics founding partner Erik Larsen. After several short-term projects (SuperPatriot and TechJacket), he achieved superstar status in 2003 with Invincible and The Walking Dead. During a subsequent stint at Marvel Comics, he gained many new fans with the haunting and hilarious Marvel Zombies. MTV translated Kirkman’s Invincible into a motion comic — one of the first in a growing industry trend. Kirkman’s SKYBOUND imprint, under the Image Comics umbrella, is committed to fostering up-and-coming talent in the industry, and all acquisitions are hand picked by Kirkman himself. Kirkman won the 2010 Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series for The Walking Dead. AMC’s interpretation of the comic, helmed by Frank Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd, has received glowing reviews from critics and fans alike and continues to garner the highest ratings for the network, making it a game changer for groundbreaking television on cable.

Chris Hardwick Dollhouse C2E2 Eliza Dushku

Press Release:

CHRIS HARDWICK TO MODERATE ELIZA DUSHKU AND TAHMOH PENIKETT PANEL AT C2E2

Popular Host of G4 TV’s Web Soup Takes Center Stage

Norwalk, CT, March 4, 2011: Chris Hardwick, a popular host who makes frequent appearances on the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and who is currently the producer and host for the Nerdist Podcast as well as a host on G4’s Web Soup and a reviewer on G4’s Attack of the Show, will be conducting a Q & A with Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2). As previously announced, both Ms. Dushku and Mr. Penikett, the stars of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, will be at C2E2 on Saturday, March 19 and Sunday, March 20 where they will be signing both days, as well as participating in the Q & A session on Saturday, March 19, 2:15pm – 3:15pm in the IGN Theater. Mr. Hardwick, who will be leading the panel discussion, intends to talk extensively to both Dushku and Penikett about their experiences on Dollhouse as well as talk about other experiences which have shaped their careers.

Commenting on the prospect of appearing at C2E2, Chris Hardwick notes: “I am very pleased that C2E2 has fallen for my insidious plan of procuring my services as a panel moderator for the delightful humans known as Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett in order to strong-arm a weekend badge to the expo. Bwah-ha-ha-HAAAAAAAAA, and dare I add an additional “Mwah!”

Aside from his presence on stage with Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett, Chris will also be meeting and greeting his own fans. He will be autographing on Friday, March 18, 2:00pm – 3:00pm, at Table 3 on the show floor in the Autographing Area.

The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo is a major pop culture event which was launched last year and which is owned and operated by ReedPOP, which also organizes New York Comic Con (NYCC). C2E2 will take place March 18 – 20, 2011 in the West Hall of the McCormick Place Convention Center. Other notable panels which will be taking place over the course of the weekend include: Food and Comics (Friday, March 18), China Mieville Spotlight (Saturday, March 19), The Walking Dead Q & A (Saturday, March 19), True Blood Q & A (Saturday, March 19), The Vampire Diaries Video Presentation and Q&A (Saturday, March 19), Chuck Video Presentation and Q&A (Saturday, March 19), Marvel: Cup O’ Joe (Saturday, March 19), and Garth Ennis Spotlight (Sunday, March 20), to name just a very few! ABOUT CHRIS HARDWICK: Chris Hardwick is a stand-up comic and supreme overlord of Nerdist Industries, which is responsible for the popular Nerdist Podcast, the nerdist.com portal, and a real-life book “The Nerdist Way,” to be released in November of 2011 through Penguin. In April, NI will move its headquarters to the back of Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles, because the structural integrity of what was once and old hardware store would help it fare well in an apocalypse. Hardwick appeared in Terminator 3, House of 1000 Corpses and Halloween 2 (the second one, so technically Halloween 2 2, for the pedantic nerds out there). He is currently developing a web series for Funny or Die, hosts Web Soup and plays with toys on Attack of the Show on G4.
