Celebrated Roles Include “Doctor Who” Among Other Parts

Norwalk, CT, August 24, 2012:  Peter Davison, who played the fifth incarnation of The Doctor in the celebrated British television series Doctor Who, will be a Spotlight Guest at this year’s New York Comic Con (NYCC). The noted actor, who is also well known for his role as Tristan Farnon in James Herriott’s All Creatures Great and Small, will be signing autographs and appearing on stage. Doctor Who, which premiered on British television in 1963, has gone on to become a television institution in the UK, a cult phenomenon in the USA and the longest-running science fiction television program in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records. The series will mark its 50th anniversary in 2013. Peter Davison played the title role from 1981 – 1984.

New York Comic Con, which will take place October 11 – 14, 2012 at NYC’s Javits Center, is one of New York’s largest annual events, last year attracting over 100,000 attendees. The pop culture convention draws a wide cross section of fans eager to meet and greet the creators, actors, writers, musicians and artists.  The show includes top talent from the worlds of comics, film, television, music, books and gaming. Peter Davison, an acclaimed actor who has starred in many other TV series in addition to Doctor Who , will be signing in the Autograph Area Friday, October 12 – Sunday, October 14. ABOUT PETER DAVISON:  Peter was Doctor Who’s fifth Doctor from 1981 until 1984. He first became known to US audiences playing Tristan in All Creatures Great and Small. The Challenge
Suit up people, it’s nearly time for New York Comic-Con. Yes, this October several trillion pop culture afficionados will descend upon a usually quiet east coast city in a quest to sniff Joss Whedon’s hair, drive the Batmobile up a wall and meet the Doctors. But they also come to enjoy nice t-shirts, posters, and various other items one can adorn with splendid and culturally relevant graphic design. Which is why we’re going. Again.

This year we want an epic show poster, just like a limited edition gig poster but to commemorate NY Comic-Con instead. The winning design will be beautifully printed and given pride of place in our booth under the stare of 100,000+ visitors. We’ll hand number 200 to give away to happy people who come and talk to us as a stunning memento and we’ll add your name and bio to every poster for maximum effect. We’re also offering free tickets, free merch and free money for the winner and three runners up.

We’re looking for a superb bit of illustrated poster art highlighting the Redbubble presence at NYCC. It could be a faux-comic cover, parody gig poster, or just some beautiful typography. See Voting Criteria below for details. We did it last year with t-shirtsand the crowd went batshit for them.

Judging / Voting Criteria
Your poster design must include the following:
- The show dates, October 11-14, 2012, although they can be scripted any way you choose.
- A mention of ‘New York Comic-Con’, or ‘NYCC’.
- A mention of ‘Redbubble’ (it’s one word kids) you can access our logo here but you don’t need to use it.
- It must be available as a poster

Your design must not include the following:
- Any copyrighted material, characters, logos etc. If in doubt. Don’t.
- Cats. Unless they are very funny cats.

Entries will be shortlisted by the community through the voting process. The final winners will be selected by Redbubble based on a sense of incredible imagination, skill and execution of the brief and exactly the right amount of awesome. (Which is ‘a lot’, a lot of awesome.)

It’s going to be a tough one for the judges, we can sense it already.

JOHN CUSACK TO APPEAR AT CHICAGO COMIC & ENTERTAINMENT EXPO (C2E2)

Critically Acclaimed Actor to Preview Trailer for The Raven 

Norwalk, CT, March 19, 2012:  John Cusack, a Chicago native and one of Hollywood’s most accomplished and respected actors of his generation, will appear at this year’s Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2).  Mr. Cusack will participate in a Q&A session on Sunday, April 15th and show a trailer for The Raven, his new movie from Relativity starring Mr. Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe.  The independent period thriller, which will be released on April 27th, is directed by James McTiegue and tells the fictionalized account of the last days of Poe’s life in which the poet teams up with a young Baltimore detective to hunt down a serial killer who uses Poe’s works as the basis for his murders.  Mr. Cusack will also do a limited signing for 100 fans at C2E2.

NEW YORK COMIC CON 4-DAY TICKETS TO GO ON SALE TUESDAY, JANUARY 3 AT 12 NOON!

Officials Announce Extended Hours with More Panels and Screenings on Thursday of Show!!

Norwalk, CT, January 2, 2012:  Just in time to welcome the New Year, New York Comic Con (NYCC) organizers have today announced that 4-Day tickets for the 2012 pop culture extravaganza in New York City will go on sale tomorrow, January 3, 2012 at 12 noon EST.  The 4-Day ticket provides an exclusive pass to New York Comic Con on Thursday (October 11) as the convention will be open on that day to only Pros, Press, VIPs and fans who purchase a 4-Day ticket!  Officials also note that more panels and screenings will be added to the schedule on Thursday and the convention will have extended hours on Thursday with the show floor open from 3pm – 9pm.

The dates for this year’s New York Comic Con are Thursday, October 11 – Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City.  NYCC organizers note that right now they are only selling the exclusive 4-Day tickets.   Last year the 4-Day tickets sold out so fans are encouraged to mark their calendar and buy their tickets early!  Meanwhile, 3-Day tickets will go on sale later this Spring and Single Day tickets will go on sale in the Summer.  All tickets for the convention may be purchased at www.newyorkcomiccon.com.

New York Comic ConNorwalk, CT, September 29, 2011:  Officials at New York Comic Con have announced that the show floor for this year’s highly anticipated convention is sold out.  This “sell out” two weeks before the show marks another milestone in the convention’s enormous growth since its debut in 2006.  The show floor will occupy the complete exhibit hall of Javits Center as the entire convention takes up 470,000 square feet of space.   In total, over 700 exhibitors and 400 artists will participate in this year’s event which will include an expanded autographing area as well as 3 full days of public access to the show.  Notably, this year will feature a Vehicle Sponsor, as Chevrolet will host the New York consumer debut for the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic at New York Comic Con.  Additionally, after a hugely successful debut last year, the Cultyard Pavilion will return again this year with over 40 exhibitors featuring art, design, collectible toys, pop-tech, and fashion.  And, in what NYCC is informally calling the “Star Wars Zip Code” in the exhibition hall, attendees will find new Star Wars products from licensees and dealers, as well as a special Celebration VI area.   

The 2011 New York Comic Con takes place October 13-16, 2011.  NYCC, which attracted 96,000 attendees in 2010, celebrates comics, television, movies, toys, games, and the popular arts from around the planet.  Exhibitors spanning all these areas of the pop culture universe will participate in the show including: Activision, AMC, Archaia, Capcom, Comedy Central, Dark Horse, DC, Hasbro, HBO, IGN, Marvel, Mattel, and Xbox to name just a very few.

Maintaining the spirit of New York Comic Con, Chevrolet will showcase four special-edition, illustrated Sonics and a gigantic, gas-filled flying Sonic. Drawing inspiration from the convention, an artist will work on illustrating a fifth Sonic in real time throughout the show.  Chevrolet also will host an interactive scavenger hunt for all attendees of the conference. Winners of the scavenger hunt will take home a variety of impressive Chevrolet swag.

As noted, Star Wars will also have its own “Zip Code” at New York Comic Con.  There, attendees will learn more about the huge Star Wars fan party coming next August, co-created by Lucasfilm and ReedPOP, order tickets, and purchase exclusive Star Wars Celebration VI merchandise.  Meanwhile, in addition to their significant booth presence, first time exhibitor Hasbro will be the title sponsor of New York Comic Con’s “NYCC Kids!” taking place on Sunday, October 16.  Within NYCC Kids!, Hasbro will host the National BEYBLADE Championship where semi-finalists from around the country will battle in head-to-head competition to be crowned the BEYBLADE U.S. Champion.

White Space Launches at NYCC 2011

ReedPOP has today announced the launch of WHITE SPACE, an exclusive invitation-only summit tailored to influencers and decision makers who help shape the direction of the business of popular culture.  WHITE SPACE will take place on the afternoon of Thursday October 13th, 2011 at the Javits Center in New York City just hours before the doors open for the 2011 New York Comic Con.  Conceived as a think tank for 100 masters and innovators in the fields of TV, film, comics, games, technology and advertising, WHITE SPACE is not a traditional conference, but is designed to foster open, transparent discussion between industry leaders. It will be kicked off by brief talks from three masters of media followed by small group discussions led by influential moderators.  A drinks reception will conclude the summit meeting.

C2E2 Announces 2012 Dates

CHICAGO COMIC & ENTERTAINMENT EXPO ANNOUNCES DATES FOR 2012 

Norwalk, CT, September 1, 2011:  Organizers of Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) have announced that the 2012 edition of the annual pop culture convention will take place April 13 – 15 in the North Hall of McCormick Place Convention Center.  While this represents a small move from the West Building of McCormick Place where the show took place last year, convention officials note that they were eager to remain at McCormick while also securing a slightly later date for C2E2 in conjunction with a change of dates and venue for WonderCon in 2012.  An announcement about WonderCon’s change of dates and C2E2’s cooperation in alleviating a crowded convention calendar has just been released (9/1/11) by WonderCon organizers.

“We have had three objectives in mind in determining our 2012 dates for C2E2,” notes Lance Fensterman, Group Vice President for ReedPOP and Show Manager for C2E2.  “We wanted to keep C2E2 in the first quarter of the year, preferably March or April, we wanted to work together with WonderCon to set a schedule that makes sense for fans and exhibitors, and we wanted to keep C2E2 atMcCormick Place.  We have managed to satisfy all three of these requirements and we can now set our sights on delivering a fabulous show that will have all the earmarks of a great ReePOP event.”

Norwalk, CT, June 23, 2011:  Many top writers and creators will be joining Marvel Comics at New York Comic Con (NYCC) as the renowned comic books and media entertainment company reveals preliminary plans for the 2011 edition of the annual pop culture extravaganza which will take place at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, October 13 – 16, 2011.  Marvel will not only have a 3000 square foot booth on the show floor where attendees will have an opportunity to mingle with creators and staff, but the company will also be conducting numerous high profile panels throughout the weekend which will feature their top talent.  Joe Quesada, Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment, and Axel Alonso, Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief, will be Guests of Honor at the show and will be joined by many other notable Marvel creators including Guests of Honor Jason Aaron, Matt Fraction, Kieron Gillen, and Stuart Immonen.

JASON AARON: Jason Aaron is an Eisner and Harvey Award nominated comic book writer whose work includes the critically acclaimed crime series Scalped for Vertigo and stints on Black Panther, Ghost Rider and Wolverine: Weapon X for Marvel. Current and upcoming projects include Wolverine, Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine, PunisherMAX X-Men Schism and Wolverine & the X-Men, all for Marvel. He was born in Alabama but currently resides in Kansas City.

AXEL ALONSO:  A 17-year comics industry veteran, Axel Alonso got his start at DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, where he edited such seminal series such as Preacher, Hellblazer and 100 Bullets,before leaping to Marvel Comics in 2001.   Since that time, he has overseen many of the publisher’s biggest franchises – including Spider-Man, Hulk and the X-Men – and edited some of its most talked-about series – including TruthRawhide Kid and X-Statix.  In 2011 Axel was promoted to Editor In Chief, a tenure during which he has overseen major events such as the Death of Ultimate Spider-Manand the chart-topping Fear Itself.  Besides comics, Alonso’s passions include basketball, hip-hop, 8-year-old shooting guard Tito “Mr. T” Alonso, Asian food and preparing for the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse.

MATT FRACTION: Matt Fraction is an Eisner Award-winning American comic book writer known for his work on The Invincible Iron Man,  Thor, The Immortal Iron Fist and Uncanny X-Men for Marvel Comics, Casanova for Icon Comics. This summer he masterminds Marvel’s mega-event Fear Itself alongside Stuart Immonen. He’s written the graphic novels Last of the Independents and The Five Fists of Science, and comics like 30 Days of Night: Bloodsucker Tales and The Order. He’s recently contributed to the storylines and dialogue of both the Iron Man 2 and Thor video games for Sega, and was a consultant on the Iron Man 2 film. He lives in Portland Oregon with his wife, the writer Kelly Sue Deconnick, and his two children, two dogs, two cats, and frog. There were two frogs but they died.

KIERON GILLEN: Kieron Gillen is a foul writing worm who crawls inside artists’ ears and makes them do his bidding. Products of this evil symbiosis include Journey Into Mystery and the award-winning Phonogram. This fall Kieron will be launching Uncanny X-Men #1 with Carlos Pacheco & Greg Land. There is no known cure.

STUART IMMONEN: Since his self-published debut in 1988, Stuart Immonen has worked for almost every publisher in the comics industry from Archie to Rip Off Press, with notable tenures at DC, where he wrote and drew Adventures of Superman; Gorilla, where he co-created Shockrockets with writer Kurt Busiek; and Marvel, where he pencilled Ultimate Spider-Man, Nextwave and New Avengers, and most recently the event title Fear Itself. Stuart is known for employing diverse drawing styles as seen in his sketchbook series Centifolia published by AdHouse Books, and in his work with writer Kathryn Immonen, including Boom! Studios’ Never as Bad as You Think and Moving Pictures, published by Top Shelf. He lives in Toronto.

JOE QUESADA: Joe Quesada wears many creative hats, as both an acclaimed writer-artist and the Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment, the world’s largest and most dynamic comics publisher. In this role, Joe is steward of such legendary characters as Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America, and the Fantastic Four.  His tenure as Editor-in-Chief recently drew to a close after 10 successful years – the longest term since Stan Lee himself. Under Quesada’s guidance, Marvel underwent a creative boom and became home to the comic industry’s greatest talents, which continues to hold true today. He brings this same vision to his role in the whole of Marvel Entertainment across the worlds of publishing, film, and television.
