A new arts festival for illustrators debuts in Northampton, MA, on April 16! Celebrating illustration online and in print, Paint & Pixel Festival is a new show featuring talented, regional book illustrators, comic artists, and cartoonists and their work ranging from indie comics to award-winning picture books to nationally syndicated comic strips.
With over 45+ exhibiting artists, attendees will have the rare opportunity to talk with creators, learn about the creative process, and purchase signed books, prints, commissioned sketches, and other artwork.
Howard Cruse, renowned comic creator whose graphic novel Stuck Rubber Baby has been awarded some of the highest accolades in the industry, including Eisner and Harvey Awards, and was recently re-released for its 15th anniversary from DC Vertigo
Diane deGroat, a New York Times-bestseller and celebrated picture book illustrator with over 120 books to her credit, including Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink and Dogs Don’t Brush Their Teeth
Chris Giarrusso, whose popular kid-friendly titles G-Man and Mini Marvels have been published by Marvel and Image Comics
Jeph Jacques, creator of one of the most popular webcomics, Questionable Content
Hilary Price, author and illustrator of nationally syndicated comic strip, Rhymes with Orange
Ruth Sanderson, an award-winning picture book illustrator, including The Twelve Dancing Princesses and Papa Gatto, whose works have also been exhibited in museums such as The Norman Rockwell Museum
Rich Woodall is best know for his short lived indy hit Johnny Raygun. He is also the co-creator of the ZombieBomb! comic anthology.
The Center for Cartoon Studies will present a workshop that will introduce the finer points of the self-publishing process. A number of DIY production and design methods will be discussed, an inking and lettering demo will be done, and participants will get to create a minicomic on the spot!
Ruth Sanderson will give picture book and fantasy art portfolio reviews on a limited, sign-up basis (details here)
Instructor Jon Chad from The Center for Cartoon Studies will give reviews to aspiring cartoonists and prospective students (details here)
Additionally, The Eric Carle Museum, Modern Myths, and The Center for Cartoon Studies will be at the show to offer an even greater selection of comics, picture books, and graphic novels.
