Last Minute Additions for Baltimore Comic-Con 2011

Press Release:
The Baltimore Comic-Con is happy to welcome Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Billy Tucci to the still-growing line-up of talent for this year’s show. The show will be taking place the weekend of August 20-21, 2011 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
Jimmy Palmiotti, who will continue to write Jonah Hex in the “New 52″ title All-Star Western, is one of the most prolific writers in comics today. In addition to his work at DC, including Jonah Hex and Freedom Fighters, Palmiotti’s recent work includes a 48-page one-shot from Image Comics called Trailblazer, which hit stores last month. Currently, he is writing the Flashpoint tie-in miniseries, Deathstroke and the Curse of the Ravager.
Fan-favorite artist Amanda Conner returns to Baltimore and brings the charm to “Charm City.” Conner’s most recent work includes a 12-issue run on Power Girl, as well as covers for Zatanna and the Jimmy Olsen one-shot from DC Comics. She is also the co-founder of Paperfilms, Inc., a creative services studio, along with Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray.
Founder of Crusade Fine Arts, Billy Tucci is most widely known for his creator-owned work on Shi. Both a writer and an artist, he has worked for nearly every major publisher including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and IDW. Most recently, Tucci finished a series of limited edition Shi prints for Breast Cancer Awareness benefitting the Judi Shesh Memorial Foundation, as well as the cover and interior art for DC’s Birds of Prey #14-15.
“We’re very excited to have Jimmy, Amanda, and Billy back in Baltimore for another year,” said Marc Nathan, show promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “Each of them has had a lasting impact on comics over the last few years and it’s always a pleasure to have them at the show.”

Win an Adam Hughes Sketch at Boston Comic Con 2011
April 24, 2011 by Colin Solan
Filed under Comic Books, Convention News, Massachusetts

Up for auction is the opportunity to get an original, one of a kind convention sketch from comic artist Adam Hughes at Boston Comic Con!
Click here to bid!! (Auction ends on Apr 26, 2011 15:17:02 PDT)
Please read the auction details carefully. Much of the information gets recycled from each show, but there are some new rules and requests listed below.
As many collectors and fans know, Adam is renowned for his cover art on such books as Catwoman and Wonder Woman, as well as limited run covers for such titles as Power Girl, the Legion of Super Heroes, Joss Whedon’s Serenity and assorted Star Wars projects, to name but a few. His designs for Sideshow Collectibles Marvel Comiquette Statues as well as DC Direct’s Women of the DCU busts and Covergirls statue series are much sought after and enjoyed. This auction is YOUR chance to have one of Adam’s pieces added to your collection, and not just any piece. The artwork you win will be a fully rendered sketch of the character of your choice. The images attached to this auction are an example of the quality of work that the winner can expect to receive; each of those pieces was drawn for winners of past auctions for guaranteed convention sketches!
To participate in this auction, you must meet the following criteria: the artwork must be collected from Adam in person by the winner at the upcoming Boston Comic Con. The dates of the convention are April 30th and May 1st.. You must be an attendee at the show, and be able to provide photo ID proving you are the same individual that won this auction. No one else will be allowed to pick up this artwork for you; so please if you do not plan on being at the Boston Comic Con, do not bid. We cannot make exceptions. You must be able to pay in full via paypal at the close of this auction or make arrangements to pay in cash at the opening of the show. Failure to do so will result in a second chance offer being sent out to the next highest bidder.
The following restrictions will also apply to this auction: Your request may be of a single character of your choosing. Adam reserves the right to add any complimentary characters that he may feel completes the piece of artwork. We humbly ask that you limit your input to the character request, and which of the costumes associated with the character you would like. Please fell free to request a “feeling” for your piece if you would like to; for example, do you want it humorous, or sexy; or featuring a style Adam is known for drawing, like art nouveau or classic pin-up styles. Requests involving specific poses, or editorializing the content of the sketch tend to limit Adam’s creativity, so we kindly ask that you refrain from such specifications.Your artwork will be completed in gray-scale marker as all of Adam’s convention sketches are, with painted highlights added as Adam deems it necessary. The examples included with this auction may look like color was used; Adam achieved this effect using a combination or warm and cool gray tones markers. The artwork will be 11 by 14 inches, and all materials used are archival in quality. No lewd requests will be accepted, nor any content deemed to be offensive. If you ask for something that is either of these, we will politely ask you for a second choice for the subject of your sketch.
Your artwork will be completed either prior to, or at Boston Comic Con, unless other arrangements are made. For example; if you only plan on attending on Saturday, we will try and make sure that your piece is completed and ready for you to pick up on that day. Something to keep in mind about this event: Adam’s time is extremely restricted. He has panels and signings to attend outside of his booth, which eat up a good amount of what would otherwise be considered his sketching time. Should these time consuming events prevent Adam from completing your sketch by the end of the convention, your sketch will be completed from his studio at home, and mailed to you at our expense. Adam or myself will be in touch with you prior to the convention to talk about your sketch request. However, if you neglect to check in with us at the show and collect your sketch, you will forfeit it. We will not be responsible for shipping unclaimed artwork at the end of the show, and as stated earlier, the art MUST be picked up by the auction winner; no substitutions will be allowed.
Adam Hughes Announced as Guest for Mid-Ohio-Con 2010
August 25, 2010 by Colin Solan
Filed under Comic Books, Convention News, Ohio, Top Stories
Press Release:
Mid-Ohio-Con announced that Adam Hughes has joined the guest roster for Mid-Ohio-Con 2010. “Adam is one of the most influential and successful creators in comics today with a body of work that spans from comics and graphic novels to cards and gaming and has inspired work in countless other mediums. We’re thrilled to welcome him as a guest of honor for our 30th anniversary show,” said James Henry, Managing Director of Mid-Ohio-Con.
The Eisner Award-winning creator is most commonly known for his stylized renderings of women – super heroines, damsels in distress, and figures in fantasy – as seen in Cover Run: The DC Comics Art of Adam Hughes which features the best of Hughes’ work for DC Comics, along with commentary from the artist, rarely seen preliminary material and much more. Cover Run debuted in July 2010 at the number 2 spot on the New York Times Bestseller List and promptly sold out its first print run.
Adam began working in comics in 1985 at the age of 19 and in 1989 he started on his first mainstream comic title with DC’s Justice League. He worked on the book for almost 2 years, doing covers and interiors until 1990, then switching to just supplying artwork for the covers. In 1998 he began a highly successful five-year run as cover artist on DC’s Wonder Woman, bringing him critical acclaim and commercial success while solidifying his status as an all-star creator with legions of fans.
During the course of his career, Adam has brought his unique style to a broad array of titles for indie and mainstream publishers alike, including Star Wars for Dark Horse, Catwoman, Justice League, Legion of Superheroes, Power Girl, and Wonder Woman for DC, Gen13, Savage Dragon and Tomb Raider for Image, and Sensational She-Hulk and X-Men for Marvel, among many other titles. With the highly successful release of Cover Run: The DC Comics Art of Adam Hughes, Adam’s work is in high demand and we look forward to seeing new projects from the creator in the future.
Now entering its 30th year, Mid-Ohio-Con is one of America’s longest-running and most successful comic book and pop culture conventions. Each year, Mid-Ohio-Con brings fans of all ages together with leading comic book writers and artists, film and television creators and stars, as well as publishers and retailers from across the nation. Mid-Ohio-Con 2010 will be held on November 6-7 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. Visit us online at www.midohiocon.com.
