Wondrous and imaginative, and at times deeply scary, The Ocean at the End of the Lane captures the very essence of childhood fear and uncertainty. Gilbert Hernandez signs at Powell’s Books on Sunday, April 21st at 7:30 pm!

Press Release:

Marble Season (Drawn & Quarterly) is the semiautobiographical novel by the acclaimed cartoonist Gilbert Hernandez, author of the epic masterpiece Palomar and co-creator, with his brothers, Jaime and Mario, of the groundbreaking Love and Rockets comic book series. Marble Season tells the untold stories from the early years of these American comic legends but also portrays the reality of life in a large family in 1960s suburban California. Pop-culture references — TV shows, comic books, and music — saturate this evocative story of a young family navigating cultural and neighborhood norms set against the golden age of the American dream and the silver age of comics. An all-ages story, Marble Season masterfully explores the redemptive and timeless power of storytelling and role play in childhood, making it a coming-of-age story that is as resonant with the children of today as with the children of the ’60s.

Ben Katchor signs at Powell’s Books on Monday, April 8th at 7:30 pm!

From one of the most original and imaginative American cartoonists at work today comes a collection of graphic narratives on the subjects of urban planning, product design, and architecture — a surrealist handbook for the rebuilding of society in the 21st century. With cutting wit, Ben Katchor reveals a world similar to our own — lives are defined by possessions, consumerism is a kind of spirituality — but also slightly, fabulously askew. Frequently and brilliantly bizarre, and always mesmerizing, Hand-Drying in America: And Other Stories (Pantheon) ensures that you will never look at a building, a bar of soap, or an ATM the same way.

About the Book
The Death Star has been destroyed. The Rebellion has had its first big victory. And Han Solo, newly conscripted to the Rebel cause, is on the run from the Empire and the bounty hunters eager to turn him in for the huge reward being offered by Jabba the Hutt. Now a mysterious stranger offers Han the resources to execute a daring robbery from a major crime lord. The mission is impossible, but the prize will make Han a free man. With no choice but to accept, Han Solo and his Wookiee partner, Chewbacca, set out to assemble a cast of rogues, knaves, and cons with the right combination of wits, skills, and derring-do to pull off an operation of this complexity and scale — the best scoundrels the galaxy has to offer. And then the game is on: a rip-roaring, intergalactic, Ocean’s Eleven-style heist adventure starring Han Solo, Chewie, and Lando Calrissian!
