It is the return of the Philadelphia Comic-Con on Sunday August 17th. This comic book convention is held at the Clarion Hotel (formerly the Ramada) located at 76 Industrial Highway (Route 291) in Essington, PA 19029. The hotel is conveniently located off of exit 9A from I-95. It is also close to I-76,I-476 and most bridges from New Jersey. Show hours are 10 AM to 4 PM. Admission is only $3 per person. Students of any age (including college) are admitted free with a current id. Parking is also free on premises. For those of you that do not drive Septa Bus Route 37 stops directly in front of the hotel.

It is quite a site to behold with 60+ tables at the show in the 4,500 square foot ballroom of the hotel. Dealers from 5 states setup there selling, buying and even trading with collectors. Thousands and thousands of comic books from the 1940′s to present day will be for sale at the show. Also available will be collecting supplies, graphic novels, action figures, statues, non-sportcards, dvd’s and original artwork. The show has become a fan favorite for years with people travelling up to 3 hours one way just to shop at the show.

Special guest artist this show is Neil Vokes. Neil is a long time comic book artist who has been an industry professional since the early 80’s. A South Jersey resident with a international following for his past work on “Superman Adventures” by DC Comics.

PHILADELPHIA, January 7, 2014 – Oscar® winner Whoopi Goldberg will make her Wizard World debut at Philadelphia Comic Con, June 20-21 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.  With dozens of television and film credits, including “The View,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” Sister Act, The Color Purple, and a wide range of talents and accomplishments, Goldberg is known to millions as an actress, comedian, host, producer, author, activist, and singer-songwriter.

Goldberg began performing at age eight in New York with the Children’s Program at the Hudson guild and the Helena Rubinstein Children’s Theatre. Her successful Broadway show led to her being cast in Stephen Spielberg’s The Color Purple, earning Goldberg the 1985 Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Dramatic Motion Picture. She has also starred in such motion pictures as Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Burglar, Fatal Beauty, Clara’s Heart, Ghost, The Long Walk Home, Soapdish, and Robert Altman’s The Player.

Her TV career began with an appearance on a 1986 episode of “Moonlighting,” which earned her an Emmy Award nomination as Best Guest Performer in a Dramatic Series. Honored for many of her guest spots, Goldberg also earned acclaim for her recurring portrayal of the sentient bartender “Guinan” in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” from 1988-1993.

Today, in addition to her tireless humanitarian efforts on behalf of children, the homeless, human rights, substance abuse and the battle against AIDS, as well as many other worthwhile causes and charities, Goldberg has gained a fervent following as co-hostess of the daytime talk show “The View.”

At Philadelphia Comic Con, Goldberg will greet fans, pose for photo ops, sign autographs and conduct an interactive Q&A during the event. She will appear on Friday evening, June 20, and the full event day Saturday, June 21.

A costume contest will be held during show hours starting at 230 PM.  Categories will be kids 16 and under, adult and groups of 2 or more.  We are suggesting a comic book or sci fi theme for each of the three categories but all entrants should feel free to dress as they wish as long as what they wear would be appropriate for an all ages show.

Special guest artists are Bob Petrecca who was worked on various titles for DC Comics including Batman.  Sketch card artist Laura Inglis, self publishers Michael Mills and Angela McKendrick round out the guest list.

Special guest artists this show are Arthur Suydam, Matt Triano and Rusty Gilligan.  Fantasy artist Arthur Suydam has a long and illustrious career dating back to the 1970’s with his covers for Eerie and Creepy magazines.  He is best known now for being the Zombie King for Marvel Comics.  He has painted all the covers for the various Marvel Zombies series since the title started in 2005.  Matt is currently drawing the Sherlock Holmes comic book published by Dynamite Entertainment.   Rusty has worked for Heavy Metal Magazine in the past and is currently working on all sorts of projects creating sketch cards.  One of his claims to fame is that he was the first artist in the card industry to work on a sketch card back in the early 1990’s.

Character-Based Entertainment Leader Brings ‘Breaking Into Comics The Marvel Way’ And ‘From NOW To Infinity’ To Pennsylvania Convention Center; Talent Scout C.B. Cebulski, Others To Review Attendees’ Work

NEW YORK and PHILADELPHIA, May 16, 2013 – Marvel Entertainment will host two programming panels and conduct two portfolio reviews at the 2013 Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con Friday, May 31, through Sunday, June 2 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

The panels are entitled “MARVEL: Breaking Into Comics the Marvel Way,” set for Friday at 5 p.m. Saturday’s panel, “MARVEL: From NOW! to Infinity,” will take place from 4-5 p.m. Additionally, Marvel will be accepting portfolios on Friday and Saturday, and talent scout C.B. Cebulski and others will conduct reviews on Saturday and Sunday from 2-3:30 p.m. in Room 110.

“We are excited to bring an industry leader like Marvel to Wizard World shows,” said John Macaluso, Wizard World CEO. “Many of our fans have a close connection with the movies, comics and characters Marvel produces, and these two panels and review sessions are excellent additions to an already packed lineup for Philadelphia Comic Con attendees.”

Eisner Award Hall of Famer Stan Lee, co-creator of many of those characters, is among the headliners at Philadelphia Comic Con, which will be held May 30 – June 2. “Torchwood” and Zero Dark Thirty star John Barrowman, “Serenity” and Firefly standouts Gina Torres and Summer Glau, William Shatner (“Star Trek,” “Boston Legal”), “The Walking Dead” trio of Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus and Jon Bernthal, Manu Bennett (“Arrow,” The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) are among the top celebrities at the event.

Barry Kitson (“Amazing Spider-Man”), Phil Noto (“Uncanny X-Force”), Khoi Pham (“Scarlet Spider”), Julian Totino Tedesco (“Thunderbolts”) and Leinil Yu (“Indestructible Hulk”) lead a top-drawer collection of well-known artists and writers, many with Marvel connections, attending the show.
