PlayTime After Dark Presented by PEM/Anime Boston

Press Release:

The Peabody Essex Museum has partnered with Anime Boston for a special event on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 6:00 – 11:00 PM to celebrate their latest exhibit PlayTime. In addition to a sneak preview of the exhibition before it opens to the public, spend the night dancing away to live chiptune music and visuals presented by Rhythmus Records, and live video game tunes with The OneUps.

Swing by our studios for a nano-larp with author/ journalist/PlayTime digital platform contributor Lizzie Stark, drop-in art making workshops, late-night karaoke and more. Board games more your thing? We’ve got you covered. The Castle Board Game Cafe and Knight Moves Cafe will keep you gaming all night long. This is one fun-inducing night you do not want to miss!

PlayTime is the first major thematic exhibition celebrating the role of play in contemporary art and culture. Forty works by twenty leading contemporary artists — including large-scale installations, sculpture, photographs, video and tactile interactives — examine how play catalyzes creative expression, enchants the ordinary, and helps us understand ourselves in new ways.

PlayTime is organized by the Peabody Essex Museum and made possible in part by the Nancy B. Tieken Memorial Fund and supporters of the Present Tense Initiative. Carolyn and Peter S. Lynch and The Lynch Foundation provided generous support. The East India Marine Associates of the Peabody Essex Museum provided valuable support. PlayPower, Inc. is the lead sponsor of this exhibition.

Free for members, Salem residents and college students with ID; non-members $15. Age 18+; Cash bar
