IL – Archival Quality Signing

Steenz, artist on the new original graphic novel Archival Quality from Oni Press, signs at Fantasy Books on Saturday March 31st at 3:00 PM!

After losing her job at the library, Celeste Walden starts working at the haunting Logan Museum as an archivist. But the job may not be the second chance she was hoping for, and she finds herself confronting her mental health, her relationships, and before long, her grasp on reality as she begins to dream of a young woman she’s never met, but feels strangely drawn to. Especially after she asks Cel for help– As Cel attempts to learn more about the woman, she begins losing time, misplacing things, passing out-the job is becoming dangerous, but she can’t let go of this mysterious woman. Who is she? Why is she so fixated on Cel? And does Cel have the power to save her when she’s still trying to save herself? Written by Ivy Noelle Weir and art by Steenz.

Archival Quality hits the shelves on March 7th, 2018. Ask an associate and we can hold a copy for you. Steenz will be here for signing on March 31st at 3pm. We’ll see you there!

OR – My Boyfriend is a Bear Art Exhibition

Press Release:

Oni Press creator and artist Cat Farris are teaming up with Sequential Art Gallery + Studio to celebrate the release of the original graphic novel, My Boyfriend is a Bear, beginning with an artist reception, Thursday April 5th, from 6pm-10pm, with the exhibition lasting throughout the month. The showing will include Farris’s original process watercolor art used in the graphic novel, limited edition prints of the cover, and more! Limited copies of My Boyfriend is a Bear will also be available for purchase.

About My Boyfriend is a Bear: Nora has bad luck with men. When she meets an (actual) bear on a hike in the Los Angeles hills, he turns out to be the best romantic partner she’s ever had! He’s considerate, he’s sweet, he takes care of her. But he’s a bear, and winning over her friends and family is difficult. Not to mention he has to hibernate all winter. Can true love conquer all?

Cat Farris is the creator of the webcomic The Last Diplomat and the minicomic series Flaccid Badger, has worked for companies such as Amazon and Rovio Entertainment, and illustrated Dark Horse Comics’ Emily and the Strangers. Pamela Ribon is a best-selling novelist, and has written comics such as Rick and Morty™ for Oni Press and her original series Slam! for Boom! Studios. After over a decade working in television, she became a member of Disney Animation’s StoryTrust, where she has co-written Moana and the upcoming Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2.

“When I created the art for Bear’s hibernation sequence, I wanted to do it in a way that clearly set his time apart from Nora’s,” said artist Cat Farris. “Using actual watercolor seemed like a natural choice to me to create soft, almost dream-like images. Thanks to the Sequential Art Gallery, folks have a chance to see these pieces in all their original glory!”

“We have been watching Cat for years, seeing her hone both her art style and professionalism,” said Sequential Gallery curator, Kaebel JK Hashitani. “She started talking about My Boyfriend is a Bear last summer, sharing samples of the watercolor work for the book—that’s when we knew it was time to showcase her artwork!”

Sequential Art Gallery + Studio is open for viewing Mondays 2pm-7pm, and by appointment. The exhibit will close Monday April 30th.

UK – Kim Reaper: Grim Beginnings Signing

Sarah Graley signs KIM REAPER: GRIM BEGINNINGS at Forbidden Planet Birmingham on Saturday 17th February from 1:00 – 2:00 PM.

In KIM REAPER, Kim works at a part-time job to make ends meet. Unlike most university students, Kim’s job is pretty dang cool: she’s a grim reaper, tasked with guiding souls into the afterlife.

Like most university students, Becka has a super intense unrequited crush. Unlike most university students, Becka’s crush is on a beautiful gothic angel that frequents the underworld. Of course, she doesn’t know that. Unaware of the ghoulish drama she’s about to step into, Becka finally gathers up the courage to ask Kim on a date!

But when she falls into a ghostly portal and interrupts Kim at her job, she sets off a chain of events that will pit the two of them against angry cat-dads, vengeful zombies, and perhaps even the underworld itself. But if they work together, they just might make it… and maybe even get a kiss in the bargain.

Sarah Graley is a UK based comic artist and writer, who wrote and drew the Rick and Morty comic mini series Lil’ Poopy Superstar, and creates the comic series Kim Reaper for Oni Press.

She is also known for her popular diary comic series Our Super Adventure, and is currently working on her graphic novel Glitch for Graphix/Scholastic, pencilled for release late 2018.
