SF – Going Into Town: An Evening with Roz Chast

Cartoonist Roz Chast appears at the Nourse Theatre on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 7:30 PM.

Roz Chast has loved to draw cartoons since she was a child growing up in Brooklyn. She attended Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in Painting because it seemed more artistic. However, soon after graduating, she began drawing cartoons once again. Her cartoons have also been published in many other magazines besides The New Yorker, including Scientific American Magazine, the Harvard Business Review, Redbook, and Mother Jones. Her most recent book is a comprehensive compilation of her favorite cartoons called Theories of Everything: Selected, Collected, and Health-Inspected Cartoons of Roz Chast, 1978-2006. She also illustrated The Alphabet from A to Y, with Bonus Letter, Z, the best-selling children’s book by Steve Martin. Her forthcoming book is entitled Going into Town: A Love Letter to New York.

SF – Mary-Louise Parker Signing

0000-Mary-Louise-Parker

Award-winning actress Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds, Red, Fried Green Tomatoes) presents her literary debut at the Nourse Theatre on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 7:30 PM in conversation with Mark Karr (The Liar’s Club). An unconventional memoir in letters, Dear Mr. You chronicles Parker’s life through correspondence with men from her past and imagined future, and reveals the complexity and power found in relationships both loving and fraught.

Mary-Louise Parker is a Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe award-winning actress. Best known for her lead role as Nancy Botwin on Showtime’s Weeds, she also appeared in the television adaptation of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America and will star in Showtime’s forthcoming series Lit, based on the memoir by Mary Karr. Parker’s film credits include Fried Green Tomatoes, Boys on the Side, and Red. Her forthcoming memoir, Dear Mr. You, is written as a series of letters to the men who have made a significant impact on her life– from a taxi cab driver she screamed at during a dark period to the orderly assigned to her after the birth of her son and to the grandfather she never knew.

Mark Karr is the author of three award-winning, bestselling memoirs: The Liar’s Club, Cherry, and Lit. A Guggenheim Fellow in poetry, Karr has won Pushcart Prizes for both verse and essays, and is the Peck Professor of Literature at Syracuse University.
