Celebrate America’s favorite pastime and the art of Norman Rockwell. Bring your mitt and enjoy an afternoon of family-friendly activities, held both inside and out!
12:30 p.m.: Kori Alston presents Baseball Poetry, including Casey at the Bat and an original poem written especially for the day.
1 p.m.: Jane Shauck, photographer of the New York Mets
1:30 p.m.: Mark Chiarello, watercolor painter of Negro League players
2 p.m.: Baseball Hall of Fame educator Larry Moore presents an overview of the history of the Negro Leagues
2:30 p.m.: meet James Overmyer, author of Queen of the Negro Leagues: Effa Manley and the Newark Eagles
3 to 4 p.m.: children may pick up a FREE souvenir Louisville Slugger mini-bat while supplies last. Bats donated courtesy of the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, Louisville, Kentucky

Join the Norman Rockwell Museum for a special evening to preview this summer’s hottest exhibition “Ice Age to the Digital Age: The 3D Animation Art of Blue Sky Studios” and celebrate award-winning artist and Blue Sky Studios character designer Peter de Sève on Friday, June 10, 6:00 to 9:30 p.m.
The evening will include a cocktail buffet, raw bar, winetasting, private preview tour with Peter de Sève, music, champagne and dessert. On the lawn at historic Linwood House, located on the scenic grounds at Norman Rockwell Museum.

In addition to his work in animation, Peter de Sève’s elegant drawings grace the covers and pages of The New Yorker, and appear in many illustrated books, including Mark Twain’s A Murder, A Mystery, and A Marriage;” The Duchess of Whimsy by Randall de Sève; Fin McCoul by Brian Gleeson, among others.

Celebrate the art of animation with a first-ever look behind the scenes at the world of digital animation at Blue Sky Studios, where cutting-edge creativity and technique brings imaginative characters and stories to life. Meet members of the Blue Sky creative team.
A festive reception and party will follow (think Hollywood premiere crossed with a Berkshire-style family picnic!).

William Steig opens the Love & Laughter exhibit on Saturday, June 12 from 7pm to 10pm

Award-winning fantasy artist and creator of Dinotopia, James Gurney, explores ways to incorporate detail and imagination into stunningly realistic fantasy settings. At 1 p.m., the artist will discuss the step-by-step techniques that have won him worldwide critical acclaim, followed by hands-on art making and a booksigning of Imaginative Realism: How to Paint What Doesn’t Exist. Free with Museum admission, kids and teens free.
About James Gurney:
James Gurney is the best-selling author and illustrator of the Dinotopia book series. He has worked on assignment as a National Geographic artist, and illustrated seventeen United States postage stamps, and numerous book covers. An accomplished, award-winning artist, Gurney is the recipient of many prestigious honors, including seven Chesley Awards from the Association of Fantasy Artists, two Hugo Awards from the World Science Fiction Convention, and Best of Show from the Art Director’s Club. Gurney’s art currently appears in museum exhibitions around the world, including the Norman Rockwell Museum traveling exhibition Dinotopia: The Fantastical Art of James Gurney.
