Celebrate 80 Years of Superman at Awesome Con 2018

Top illustrators, writers, and celebrities in the comics world will unite at Mid-Atlantic pop culture convention Awesome Con presented by LeftField Media, taking over Washington, D.C.’s Walter E. Washington Convention Center from March 30-April 1, 2018. Comics powerhouse DC Entertainment and other renowned publishers will present special programming like industry insider and celebrity-driven panels, share exclusive announcements, debut designs, and more at the show. Awesome Con is proud to mark its sixth year by working with comic book artist Patrick Zircher on the official show poster and original art in the con’s program guide, distributed to all show attendees.

Show attendees can look forward to programming celebrating eight decades of Superman, marking the icon’s 80th anniversary since debuting in April 1938 from DC. Fans will be able to attend events and interact with special guests Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum, who played Clark Kent and Lex Luthor in beloved television series “Smallville,” during the weekend. Kids attending Awesome Con will also receive special keepsake badges featuring official Superman artwork from acclaimed artist and DC Publisher Jim Lee specially commemorating the weekend. Creators from renowned publishers like DC will meet-and-greet with fans throughout the weekend at booths on the Awesome Con show floor, making it easier than ever to meet the makers behind some of the most beloved characters in pop culture.

Comic fans will love events like Past, Present & Future: The 80th Anniversary of Superman, a panel bringing together DC artist Greg Capullo and writer Scott Snyder and comic book artist and writer Dan Jurgens, alongside Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum to retrace the iconic character’s history and discuss what’s next for the Man of Steel.

The creative minds behind Batman comic miniseries “Dark Nights: Metal” come together at Awesome Con for a Batman Metal Q&A and Meet & Greet on Saturday, March 31. Artist Greg Capullo, writer Scott Snyder, and inker Jonathan Glapion host a private one-hour Q&A with attendees, who will each receive a color Greg Capullo Batman print, a black-and-white Greg Capullo Batman print, and an inked Batman variant comic book cover by Jonathan Glapion. The iconic trio of guests will sign the prints and comic cover along with up to five items per attendee. Tickets are available for $100 at www.awesomecon.com/tickets; attendees must also have a Saturday day pass or Awesome Con Weekend pass.

Cincinnati Comic Expo has announced their first guests for this year’s show, to be held on September 14-16, 2018! Tickets are on sale now.

The Kingslayer is Coming to the Queen City

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for his role as Jaime Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones, will be making a rare U.S. convention appearance and attending all three days of the 2018 Cincinnati Comic Expo! Nikolaj’s many film credits in numerous genre include Gods of Egypt, The Other Woman, Oblivion, Mama, and Black Hawk Down.

Get your admission passes to meet Nikolaj, who will be on hand for autographs and photo-ops will the fans throughout the weekend.

Cobie Smulders Makes Her First Trip to Cincinnati

Fans can now tell their family and friends “How I Met Cobie Smulders” when they see her at the upcoming Cincinnati Comic Expo! Following her big break of nine seasons on How I Met Your Mother, Cobie is currently cast as Agent Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Between portraying Agent Hill in The Avengers, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Cobie has appeared in other projects, such as The Lego Movie, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, and Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. Meet Cobie on Saturday and Sunday to get an autograph and photo-op at the Expo this September.

Guest Thomas Grummett Kickoffs the Artist Lineup

Comic artist Tom Grummett will be attending the 2018 Cincinnati Comic Expo. Grummett’s work with both DC and Marvel is recognized in The New Titans, The Adventures of Superman, Superboy, The Power Company, Robin, and Thunderbolts. Following those projects, Grummett was an artist working with writer Chris Claremont on 2009’s and 2010’s X-Men Forever comic series.

Cincinnati Comic Expo Welcomes Guest Artist Rick Leonardi

The lineup of comic guests at the Expo continues to grow with the addition of Rick Leonardi. Rick has a long career with Dark Horse, DC, and Marvel working on numerous titles including Cloak and Dagger, The Uncanny X-Men, The New Mutants, Nightwing, Batgirl, Superman, and others. In addition, Rick is known for his work on Star Wars: General Grievous and Superman Returns Prequel, which tied in with the featured films.

Meet the LEGENDARY artist, George Pérez appears at Bedrock City Comic Co’s Clear Lake store on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 1:00 till 5:00 PM! George will sign up to 15 items per person for FREE on what he states will be his ONLY appearance in Texas for the next few years, and with only a few exceptions, one of the very few appearances he will make in 2018!

About George Pérez: George started his comics career over 42 years ago, and he’s still going strong. He has been involved in many landmark publications including The New Teen Titans, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and History of the DC Universe. An acknowledged master at drawing team books George Pérez has had two enormously successful runs on Avengers, and also had great personal success with the solo feature Wonder Woman, which he also scripted, re-establishing the Amazing Amazon as one of DC Comics’ upper-tier characters. George is currently writing and drawing his creator-co-owned series George Pérez’s Sirens for BOOM! Entertainment!

Michael Moreci appears in conversation with Tim Seeley at BeerShop on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 7:00 PM.

Moreci will discuss his debut non-graphic novel, Black Star Renegades, a classic space opera and galaxy-hopping adventure. And no doubt, these two won’t resist talking about comics, comics, and more comics, with their major geek-cred. Both Moreci and Seeley have an impressive back catalog of work with both DC and Image Comics. You won’t want to miss this awesome evening!

Michael Moreci is a bestselling author who has written Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, and other DC super-heroes. His Image Comics series, Roche Limit, was called the “sci-fi comic you need to read” by Nerdist and io9, and Paste Magazine named it one of the “50 best sci-fi comics” of all time. Black Star Renegades, his debut novel, was recently released from St. Martin’s Press. A sequel is to follow in 2019. He lives in Oak Park with his wife and two sons. 

Tim Seeley is one of those “slash” people…a writer-slash-artist. He has drawn a number of different comic book series including GI Joe, Halloween, Wildcats, and Exsanguine. His writing work includes New York Times bestselling Hack/Slash, Nightwing, Green Lanterns, Grayson, and the critically acclaimed Revival. He resides in Chicago, Illinois and works at Four Star Studios where he is never far from his 80s action figure collection.

WI – Garth Ennis Signing

Writer Garth Ennis (Jimmy’s Bastards, Preacher, Punisher MAX, The Boys, War Stories) will be signing at Kowabunga Comics on Saturday, October 28th! In addition to Garth will be Black Eyed Kids creator and Aftershock Comics Chief Creative Officer Joe Pruett and writer/artist Phil Hester.

Garth Ennis is a multi-award winning comic book writer  known for his love of graphic violence and black comedy. After taking over the reins of Judge Dredd, British Comics’ most recognizable character, from legendary Judge Dredd creator John Wagner, he exploded upon the American comic book market with credits that include HellblazerHitmanPunisherFuryCrossedBattlefieldsWar Stories, and The Boys. His legendary and hugely-influential DC Comics’ series PREACHER, which he co-created with artist Steve Dillon, has recently been given a pilot treatment by AMC. Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, he now lives in New York City with his wife, Ruth.

Joe Pruett is the COO and Publisher at Aftershock. Joe is an Eisner and Harvey nominated writer and editor for his work on Negative Burn. He is known for his turn at Marvel on X-Men Unlimited, Wolverine, and Cable. Currently, Joe writes Black Eyed Kids at Aftershock.

Phillip Hester has been writing and drawing comics for nearly three decades, beginning while still a student at the University of Iowa. After a period of toiling in the burgeoning world of black and white indie comics, he broke into the mainstream with a long run as artist of DC’s Swamp Thing with writer Mark Millar. At nearly the same time, he wrote and drew the Eisner Award nominated series The Wretch. In 2001, Phil drew Kevin Smith’s revival of DC’s Green Arrow. He wrote the original graphic novel The Coffin with artist Mike Huddleston, which was optioned for a feature film by James Cameron. At Image Comics, he created Firebreather with artist Andy Kuhn, which became an Emmy-winning television feature for Cartoon Network. His work, as both artist and writer, has been featured in hundreds of comics from nearly every major American publisher, and includes runs on such titles as The DarknessWonder WomanAnt-ManUltimate Marvel Team-UpNightwingInvincible UniverseBatman BeyondThe Flash: Season Zero, and his current Image project Mythic with artist John McCrea. Phil lives in rural Iowa with his family.

NYC – Nightwing: New Order Signing

Trevor McCarthy (artist on Nightwing New Order, Batman Gates of Gotham, Klarion, Batwoman, etc) appears at Comic Book Jones from Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM!
